@JFK lol yes, a dream title!

Application:

Name: Fabio Fazzone

Age: 32

Appearance: A tall (6'2"), broad-shouldered man. Fabio has dark hair that is always just a little unruly (it takes him a good half hour to achieve this effect in the morning). He has a sharp jawline that inevitably carries the faint shadow of stubble. He has sun-kissed olive skin that speaks of long days spent under Mediterranean skies, and dark brown eyes.

Nationality: Italian

Branch: Direct Action

Role/Occupation: Expendable Human Resource

Skills: A competent operator with experience in planning and executing operations in urban environments. Can also cook well. Blue Steel.

Weaknesses: Is vain and makes indiscrete social media posts.

Background/Biography: Fabio Fazzone was born of a middle-class Milanese family and is not typically the sort of person one would have expected to end up in the military. However, possibly as a way to impress women, and much to the dismay of his parents, rather than going onto a good university after school, Fabio enlisted in the Italian Army. In truth this was possibly not such a bad idea as Fabio has never shown any particular interest in or aptitude for academia.

In the military, Fabio thrived. The young Italian had excellent coordination and quickly became a well respected marksman. While not the most motivated person by nature, he was quite good at following instructions.

Nevertheless, after ten years in the military, Fabio left in search of opportunities which paid better (he wanted to buy a Lamborghini to help him pick up women). 'Damage Control' work seemed like the obvious choice. Intending to apply for a role in catering, Fabio accidentally applied for 'Direct Action' instead and was accepted due to a need for more arguably-competent cannon fodder.
Vitiafa of Endiohon

...

"I see I'm not the only one having a liquid breakfast, Officer Larci," she said after a sip of the tea. "I would hope that isn't typical. Are you doing well, given the circumstances we find ourselves in?"

"Slightly different liquid," Velia smiled a little uncertainly, seemingly not sure if she should be embarrassed or boastful about her early 'morning' alcohol consumption.

She took a restrained sip, "I suspect I'm doing better than most," she gave a sigh before deciding to confess, "Most of my close family, my parents, my siblings, managed to evacuate and are now in cryogenic sleep, waiting for us to find somewhere to defrost them. It's not pure chance - they knew where I was and were aware that I had access to an escape route. I didn't lose everything. I imagine the best portion of this ad-hoc crew did. I have a responsibility, but I am Blessed to be in this position and it means my feet are, metaphorically speaking, on firm ground, not on shifting sand. It will help me weather the storms this voyage will throw at us."

"So more importantly, how, are you doing?" she asked, flipping the question around, genuine concern in her dark, dhasath, eyes.

Andronika Hasikos

"I never asked for the mountain of corpses... or the throne for that matter," Andronika pouted, crossing her arms in imitation of a sulking child, "I never wanted to be responsible! Or to lead anyone! That's not fun." She paused, glancing sideways at Kreznik with a familiar amused expression, "So why shouldn't I take a bit of what I want, along with doing the stuff that other people want me to do?"

She gave a dry laugh at the second question, "A job for the Spymaster right now? Probably not. We can scheme against, and backstab, our Imperial allies at some later date... for now though, do you play cards Kreznik? I've been leaning some gambling games that a lady really shouldn't be playing. Unfortunately, I don't have any coins to play with, but I'm sure we can figure something out," she said, with a playfully flirtatious smirk that suggested she was thinking of something that would make most people in her court blush...

Coralie D'Amboise: The Battle of Katalani, 9:45am

Coralie snapped her spyglass shut. To the West of the line the Cavalry had exchanged fire for a time. Dragoons on both sides had exchanged volleys before the heavier horse had formed up, culminating a few moments ago by a charge from Zeller into the Red horse, a ripple of pistol fire, then a clash of horse and steel. Zeller's mercenary cavalry were some of the finest in the East but had a habit of becoming a bit rash, getting drawn out of position or pursuing the enemy for far longer than they ought. She prayed they could maintain discipline today.

She trotted her horse forward, keeping pace with the lines of Iktani musketeers who formed her personal guard, and whom she had ordered to keep in close proximity to the forces moving forward to occupy the farm, able to support and repel any flanking manouvres the Reds might try to emply. The roar of the Blacks smaller cannon sounded from behind her, balls tracing lines across the sky towards the advancing mass of Red troops.

Her troops had spent weeks preparing and drilling for the next battle, but there was always danger and she had no idea how well the Reds were trained. They were, by all account quite fanatical...

There was a ripple of gunfire from the farmyard ahead, thick smoke drifting upwards into the cloudless sky, "Well," she declared, to nobody in particular, "Time to find out how good our drill instructors are."

Andronika Hasikos

Andronika gave a dry laugh, leaning back against the wall, "I thought you were listening... yes I do approve of the runner. Saves me having to ask."

She paused, her smile softening for a moment, "No... no marriage offers. The elgafolk can't produce children with me, so I'm of no interest as the mother of a future heir... on top of which, the Emperor sullying himself with a human, perish the thought!" she paused again, seemingly choosing her words carefully, "In choosing to take on this life, I still want to retain a bit of the freedom I had on the road... which is a long way of saying, 'I'll marry whomever I like' and the consequences be damned. And of course, if I marry someone who doesn't mind assuming the name 'Hasikos' then that will probably make the peasants happy."

"Ultimately, supporting me is in the best interest of all the Kings and Nobles in my sphere," she declared, "They're getting enough already without me needing to promise to go to bed with some inexperienced Princeling!"

Coralie D'Amboise: The Battle of Katalani, 9:00am

The Black Army had camped outside the town of Katalani. Stories of the Red Army's proximity had reached the town already and the burghers (particularly those elgafolk amongst them) were actually grateful for the appearance of the 16,000 strong Black Army, seeing them as an answer to prayer and their deliverance from the ravages of the Reds. Coralie was more than happy to enjoy their hospitality and spent a very pleasant evening with the Mayor and his family, before retiring to a nice soft, goose-feather bed.

She woke in the morning to the promise of more violence... but at least she had slept well.

With the dawn, Coralie made ready, donning her armour before riding out to meet the troops, who were already forming into a long line across the fields north of town. Assinger had taken up position towards the centre of the line which afforded him a good view of the largely flat battlefield, "Good morning!" he called, waving to Coralie as she approached on her own horse.

"Good morning Momin, did you sleep well?" she asked.

"I did," he nodded, "Did you?"

"Very!" Coralie looked out across the field, in the distance she could see red banners and what looked like some rather large guns, "I think the bed here was better than the one at our headquarters. I haven't slept this well in months... so, what do we have before us?"

"I think they slightly outnumber us," Momin remarked, "Where we are at the moment our centre reserves are hidden behind that patch of woodland over there," he motioned directly in front at them at a long strip of dark trees, "But, if you look beyond, you can see a walled farmhouse. We can send a battaglia to occupy that. They'd be a nightmare to dig out... there's another to the East, at the far end of the line."

Coralie pursed her lips, "Don't think they'll negotiate?" Almost on queue, there were signs of movement in the distance as the Red line began to advance, followed by a ripple of smoke puffs from the guns, followed a moment later by the distant roar of the cannons. Coralie's horse whinnied, tossing its head in alarm. "Forget I asked," she commented dryly.

"They have us outranged," Assinger remarked. On the far West of the line the enemy Cavalry advanced ahead of the infantry, eager it seemed, to clash with Coralie's own small mounted contingent.

Coralie paused for a long moment, "Any sign of Viryarus yet?" Assinger shook his head, "Okay... send the troops to occupy the farms. If it slows my cousin down then it gives him a better chance to join us. Also send word to Colonel Zeller's Cavalry to advance. Send him orders that it is a priority to destroy Ariana's cavalry as quickly as he can - I want him to be able to threaten those guns."
The ascent was easier for some than for others. Aderynel flew the short distance, dropping lightly beside the maw-like entrance to the cave, waiting for the others.

Tárwen was not far behind, skipping lightly over the rocks and snow, even with her staff held in one hand. She made no sound, despite the treacherousness of the surface, leaving no trace of her passage in her wake. For those unused to Firindorians, it was strange and unnatural to observe.

She reached the top, though by then the sound of the ascent of the others was already carrying to the cave entrance. It was not an easy ascent. Snow hid loose rocks and had turned to ice in places. Tárwen stepped to the edge by the doorway, peering down at the others for a moment. Her lips curled into a smirk and it seemed she was about to make a smart comment... but she decided not to, instead stepping back towards the doorway.

A few moments later a bright, cold light burst forth from the tip of her staff, casting long shadows across the valley and into the interior of the mountain complex, revealing the colossal shapes of Turakindi statues framing a corridor, "There... that will keep any troglodytes back... at least until the others get up the slope."

Though there was no sign of the creatures in the hall...
Arkadios

"I believe, on top of being a Prince, he is a Field Marshall," Arkadios said, though without sounding completely certain about himself.

As it happened, Arkadios was right. When Mitteland was established as a Kingdom within the Empire, just over 200 years ago, it had no established aristocracy and the people who were entitled were, for the most part its military leaders. While this was initially a source of contempt for the Kingdom's established neighbours, over the following century, the Mittelandische Noble classes began to see this as a source of pride. They were not some decadent aristocracy, their class existed because of their martial brilliance. With the Haltians bordering them to the West, the Mittelanders began to see themselves as the guardians of humanity against another Elgafolk resurgence (sometimes referring to themselves as the 'Haltischewacht', a name which had persisted to this day though the animosity towards their Western neighbours had long since faded). The Mittelandische nobility (the men, at any rate), were often austere soldiers who studied the art of war as if it were a holy text. The Upper Echelons of the Mittelandische military were stacked with nobles and their sons. It was no meritocracy, but at least they took the job seriously. Prince Maximilian was a Field Marshall, one possibly promoted before his time, but that was what was expected of a Prince in this country.

The story about Carter drew a grunt from Arkadios, he folded his arms, "There was always something a bit off about that man. He was at the meeting with Colonel Swaigers," he paused, sighed, rubbed his temple, before continuing in his usual, quiet, collected tone, "I suppose he had been planning this for a while. You can't take the gold while we were airborne and he must have realised it was likely to get unloaded and moved to a more secure location over the next few days. This was his best opportunity to steal what part of the reserve he could carry. I suppose this is the problem of the group we arrived with; it is a collection of all manner of people who fled Inbur ahead of the Communalists. We do not know the reasons they all fled and we don't have long-established relationships to judge trustworthiness with."

Chapter Two: Leaving Eden

They were still a good week from leaving Edenite space or, perhaps more accurately, formerly Edenite space. It was a slow, laborious process of spinning up the drive, jumping as far as they could before the skrim drive began to overheat, then dropping back into normal space to wait for the drive to cool down.

The crew, such as they were, took the time to sweep the ship for Metacer. Three sweeps hadn't found any so it was reasonably safe to assume that they had managed to leave the station without one of the bugs getting aboard with them.

With most of the population in cryosleep, the corridors were mostly deserted, though the lights remained on, the dull hum of the engines echoing down the corridors.

Velia, finding that there really wasn't too much call for a Communications Officer at these times had occupied a nice cabin then set about locating the liquor supply. To her pleasure, there was enough whiskey aboard to drown herself in, should she so desire.

This morning she had risen early, gone for a jog around the ship, listened to music for a bit, then taken a bottle of inexpensive rye whiskey and seated herself in the corner of the galley to see who else showed up.

In the chaos of their departure she hadn't had much of a chance to get to know the other people who were forming their ad hoc crew. She wanted to get to know them, to figure out who would be good people to have on side and who were a potential threat. In her experience, having a bottle of alcohol was a great way to start a conversation.
