Bio

I'm EchoicChamber, though I mostly go by Echo.
I'm twenty two years old, have a tendency to scream into the void, and mostly just hang around and do my own thing. That isn't to say that I don't enjoy roleplaying, though; I'm a big fan of the supernatural/fantasy genre, horror, and superheroes. I tend to avoid RPs where there's no fantastical elements, though there are times where I step outside of my comfort zone.
I reuse characters habitually across canons, and while I try to devote time to roleplay, work and real life cuts back on how much I can write in the best of times.
Yep.

@xXSINXx Sure! Lemme put it down as claimed for you. c:
@Erklings25 That's fine! I hope your computer stops bugging out soon.
Nobody knew when they had been made to live like this. Perhaps it had always been this way, with the giants among men lurking at the very edges of cities’ borders, the wargs prowling through dark streets and alleyways. As technology advanced, so did mankind’s defences against the world eaters, but the threat always remained. It found ways to fight back against the steel of man, and did so with unmatched vigor.

It remained like this for centuries- an arms race between predators that constantly ebbed and flowed- until, one day, you woke up to something...odd. Somewhere on your body, a symbol had carved itself onto your skin.

You might have had a lifestyle that would allow you to shrug off a sudden, inexplicable tattoo, but even if you did, it was a bit harder to dismiss fireballs launching themselves from your open palms. Or leaving your house to find that the sunflowers you had planted only a day before had become taller than your roof. Regardless of what might have happened, not long after this event, a group of suited men and women would soon come knocking at your door. They explained that you had been blessed by the Allfather himself for a special purpose. You, along with eight others, had been granted holy powers in order to defeat the armies of the damned. To fail, they said, would to mean the destruction of the world itself.

They implored you to come with them, to prepare for the great war ahead.

Of course, you didn’t have a choice, either way.

Hello, everyone, I’m Echo, and welcome to The Runes.

This is a fantasy/supernatural RP that takes place in modern day 2017- albeit a modern day 2017 that has seen humans warring with frost giants for generations. As you might have guessed, this is a roleplay loosely based on Norse mythology, where the protagonists are granted abilities based on the symbols of the runic alphabet. They have to master their powers and work together or the world will end, and all that good stuff. Keep in mind that, despite all the warring going on, a lot of the culture and goods from this era still carry on. So if you’d like for your character to go on a date to a coffee shop after they punch a giant wolf monster in the face, it’s up to you.

The characters will be kept in a facility where the Blessed will train and supervise them, and generally make sure that they’re making good progress as the chosen ones. The facility is set up inside a large mansion located at the borders of one of the larger cities, and contains several training halls, a library, a cafeteria, their bedrooms, and whatever else they might require. They are allowed a period of several hours to themselves each day- whether it is to wander the grounds or to take a break in the city- but most of the day is dedicated to fighting and training up.

(Keep in mind that those Blessed within the same category, when working together, will find their powers strengthened greatly. Freyrs will find themselves boosted when using their powers in combination with that of another Freyr, Heimdalls will be boosted with Heimdalls, and so on. When the nine are not all working together, they will often be paired into these three groups as a result.)

Rules:

- Basic rules apply here, too. Be legible, no PPing, no veering wildly off canon, etc.
- Please ask me if you have an idea for the plot/story-line.
- Be polite. Inside the RP, your characters can be at each other's throats, but outside we're all responsible, mature people(I hope), who should act that way.
- If you plan to leave the roleplay or expect to be caught up for some time, it would help a lot if you could give us an advance notice, so we can work with your leftover character much easier. Thank you!
- Enjoy!
@Erklings25 Tell me if you'd like some more stuff to work with, by the way. I know my post was kind of scarce on openings (Stride was probably shouting during the phone call, if that helps, along with blaring rock music and generally being a nuisance), so feel free to tell me if you'd like for me to have her walk out and wander the halls if that helps. c:
“Just tell me what the hell you’re yammerin’ on ‘bout on here, a’ight? I don’t need ya snoopin’ around like ya own the place.” There was a muttering from the other side, followed by the distinctive ‘click’ of the call ending.

Fucking Cal.

Stride grumbled and placed the phone on the countertop, running a hand through her hair. It hadn’t taken long for her to get back to the apartment, belly full and thoughts bemused at Cienna’s sudden departure. She hoped that the fairy had made it back wherever she was going without trouble- while it was likely that Cienna could take care of herself if she’d been around for this long, she just seemed so...small. Faint. Even if she was a stranger, Stride felt worried about the chick and her soulmate alike. Maybe she’d see about visiting the room Erin was in.

Idly, wondered if she could smuggle a bit of booze in. Sure, it might take a while before Erin could drink it, but Stride thought that she needed a drink more than anything in a time like this.

She would go get some extra whiskey while she was out shopping later, she decided. She had to go out to window-shop (pun intended) anyway, and to replace some of the furniture that had gotten damaged during the storm. Look into getting the locks changed, too, if Cal was really planning on stopping by for a little chat. Asshole had copied her key when she wasn’t looking, and he wasn’t exactly the type to wait to be let in.

But before she did, she’d take some time to let out some steam.

Dragging her easel out from the closet, Stride set it into the center of the room, then went to retrieve her other painting supplies. Her goggles and jacket were set neatly on the couch beside her, and, dipping brush into blended oil, she began to paint. Smears of orange and grey and black were committed to canvas, made to shape something new. Something quiet.

Stride hardly considered herself a Van Gogh, but it was...relaxing. Soothing. Private.

The canvas flushed a rosy pink under her hand, and she took in the scent of her work.

@Erklings25 Are you still around, by any chance? I think I'll be having Stride head back to the apartment complex, if you'd like to strike up some more interaction between the two. c:
Fangs. Not the regular, reliable canines of a human, but the well and proper fangs of a vampire or certain demons or, well, like gorgons. Stride eyed them curiously, then gave a grunt of recognition. “One of those fairies, eh? Guessin’ meat don’t really sit well with ya if you ain’t eatin’ it.” She took a swig of her Coke, wiping her lips clean with her sleeve. There was no judgement or scorn on her part- after all, in her line of work, she both worked with and apprehended all sorts of folk. Fey were just a part of the batch when it came down to it.

Stride scratched her back lazily in response to Cienna’s question, as if feeling for wings before pulling away. “Nah. If we’re s’pose to, I don’t got ‘em. Genes fucked me over on a lotta stuff.” She shrugged, then took another swig. The next dig took her by surprise, and she found herself looking up at the fairy with sort of incredulity before pausing.

Oh, right. Blind. Given how well Cienna could “see”, she had forgotten that she couldn’t actually see.

“Yeah,” Stride said. “Yeah, I do.” She dug her wallet out of her back pocket, thumbed a few choice dollars loose, then patted them onto the center of the table.

For the sake of her own pride, she kept her eyes off the bill as much as possible.

@Daemanis
Stride squinted beneath her goggles. “Ya one of those vegans or some shit like that?” It was hard to see how people could manage giving up meat for an extended period of time, really. She could see why people did it, of course, but she couldn’t see herself being able to give up burgers anytime soon. Or steak. A lot of things, really.

She held the chitchat for as long as Cienna kept it up, leaning back in her chair with an informality that held little place in a restaurant like this. At the fairy’s question of what she was, exactly, Stride pulled her mask down a little, allowing her to see the scales that clustered across her cheeks. “Mom was a human, dad was a gorgon.” And that was that. She rolled the fabric back into place, then rubbed her hands together as their meals were laid out upon the table.

“God damn,” she mumbled to herself. The cheesesteak had wound up being a lot larger than she had imagined- longer than her own head. But Stride certainly wasn’t one to balk at a meal. Hefting the thing up in one hand, she used the other to unmask herself before taking a bite. As soon as she had torn a chunk away, the mask went up again, only coming back down until she had swallowed.

Down. Sip. Up. Down. Chew. Up. This went on throughout the entirety of the meal until, eventually, Stride finished, groaning and pushing the plate away. “That was a helluva meal. Thanks again, lady. I’ll get the tip, since you’re payin’ n’ all that.”

@Daemanis
“Yeah,” Stride admitted, “but money sure as hell can help ya get things that make you happy.” Not everything, of course. Money didn’t buy you true friends, after all. Money didn’t get you a good and loving family without any work. But, as Cal had pointed out, “Have you ever seen someone cry on a jetski?”

She followed Cienna into the restaurant, glancing around at all the fancy looking folk gathered around. While Stride wanted to point out to the fairy that she really, really didn’t need to pay her back for something so small, Cienna looked like she was squirming out of her skin at the fact that she had to take help from anybody. Like she hated owing anyone anything. It wasn’t unreasonable. Plunking down in her seat, Stride grabbed the menu handed to her and began to flip through, eyeing the prices uncomfortably.

After a minute or two of scanning, Stride tossed the menu upon the table, and waited until the server had returned to the table some time later. “I’ll have the cheesesteak and a glass of Coke, if ya don’t mind.”

She handed the menu back to the server and leaned back, drumming her fingers upon the table. “So,” she drawled, not wanting to wait in complete silence, “what are ya gettin’, anyway?” There had been many, many things on the menu, and ‘the usual’ hadn’t pinned anything down in particular.

@Daemanis
That took forever and I apologize, but I finally got my hands on a laptop. :D
