In the IC? Soul has apparently been turned evil by some dark force and is exceptionally unstable. After he tried to reconcile with his daughter, he then went crazy and started attacking everyone indiscriminately, leading to the current fight.

Certain ones can reject candidate X or whatever reason, and so on.
That didn't make sense. But yeah, I can do that. So, you guys make your choices, and after Soul's battle, you can send your characters over for James to check. Once everybody who's participating has made their choices, I'll decide out of them.

Okay, then that solves every issue. Some characters try and fail, you designating who tries and fails what through the IC.
That doesn't--actually, I think I've got it. I do have it as a part that some characters have stronger affinities than others. Therefore, everyone can just present their candidates in the IC, perhaps with some way to communicate to me that they prefer X over Y, and then I can work it out on my own.

That's my point. If one is mismatched, there's nothing anyone can do about it. It'll just make it harder in the end.
But a being can't have an affinity that doesn't match them. That isn't how it works.

Affinities are based on the natures of the characters.
