Shinji: I really can't, though. I don't have an ability allowing me to. This isnt just some experiment she did that uses phrases to cause me pain. Those words are actually triggering pain receptors in my brain, and she's fine- tuned it to her voice, specifically.

Ah, that? Kirina did some really messed up stuff to me when she tortured me foe the euqivalent of 30 earth years in a time frozen chamber on one of her ships. I dont remember much from that time, just how much pain was involved, and that she wanted to inflict so much worse, but she couldnt. She wanted me dead, but couldnt actually do it. If I remember correctly, she almost cried after one of the 'sessions'.
