Bio
(4th resurrection and counting)
Feel free to call me Evie, it's one of my aliases. I go by a lot of names, tbh. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing...
I've done a bit of RP back in middle school/high school, and haven't touched it again until COVID made me question my hobbies (which I dropped and came back a year3 years 5 years later). Sometimes I think I'm a decent writer, but I'm probably not as good as I like to believe. As a newbie freelance translator, I kinda have to be eloquent, so here I am. My days are filled with stories, in one form or another, in one language or another, be it reading comics/novels/fanfics, picking up small gigs, or working on scanlation projects.
If it wasn't clear before, I'm more or less a weeb. If anything, I probably know more of the obscure stuff than the mainstream. Although I've been more on the Chinese side of web novels and comics, and haven't really kept up with the anime scene. (shameless promotion of my not-so-legal hobby here)
My favorite genres are mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, and Harry Potter fanfics. I like world-building, having co-GMed from the shadows for my ex's DnD campaigns and assistant(?) for my bestie's fantasy comic. I'm also starting to write short stories (maybe expanding into longer works) from my dreams. They're a treasure trove of awesome ideas I never brought into reality. (aha, it's been two years, and I haven't made any more progress... I should really change that)
I swear I'm not a cannibal or creep, so please feel free to shoot me a PM for anything ;p
I'm adding more NPCs cuz Poppy's team will be making many moves soon...
I was debating on this rat whisperer idea because I didn't want to be so on the nose with their gyfts, but the universe has spoken and now I have the Ratcatcher. (or would it be funnier to go Ratatouille
Anyway, two NPCs coming right up
Talia King
18 | Female | The Rat Whisperer/Omakase
Description:
Talia's father was a scientist who had worked for a big mafia. He often kept rats around for animal testing, and so Talia made quick friends with these incredible rodents when she couldn't with her fellow humans. Talia was too young to understand what her father was working on, but she knew it had gotten him (and her mother) killed. Poppy took her in after that. Despite her initial hesitancies, Omakase turned out to be different from the mafia her dad worked for, so she willingly joined their ranks now that she was old enough.
Gyft: Rat Telepathy
Can communicate basic meanings with any rats in sight. She can also remote control her "special little rat" at the moment, meaning, she can tap into the rat's sensory systems (vision, hearing, smell) as well as to control the rat's movement. While remote-controlling the rat, her own senses will be shut off, but she can still speak and move (at her own risk). The rat cannot do anything outside what it normally can, and its own instincts may triumph over Talia's under great temptation or distress.
Damien Hurst
28 | Male | The Handy Man/Omakase
Description:
Damien is one of the original members of Omakase from its petty crime days. Like most of the children in the pack, he had to earn a living for himself early in his life. He was lucky to have found a mentor in an old mechanic. He was a quick learner and was good with his hands, so he didn't have it as hard as some of the other kids, but his abusive alcoholic dad meant he was always in need of more money. That was when he joined Poppy's little crew and was well-rewarded for his handy talents. His dad is no longer around, but his desire for money remained.
Gyft: Handy Man
His hands can become any common tool (e.g. screwdriver, drill, wrench, etc.) at will. The tip/size of the tool can be as small as a needle or as big as his hand. The tool cannot detach from his hand and works the same way as if he was holding it (except maybe with a bit different maneuverability). The tools will have the physical endurance of good quality metal, but can break if used incorrectly, which would result in Damien breaking a number of fingers depending on the tool.
From this new round of posting, it seems that personnel could be given (lent?) as well. I'm assuming personnel could be more freely traded compared to wealth, which as to come from something.
@evierose While obviously it'd make more sense for Pops to connect and align with that freaky child abductor (if they don't go up in arms with each other about terrible first impressions and all), Matthias may be reaching out to her this round about collaborating to improve the Poor Districts nearby, either immediately or in the future. Do it for the children n all. He'd mostly want to secure a position that'd allow him to begin expanding eastward eventually though kekeke.
My plan is to actually let up on the Thorned Roses line... Pops will toss whatever little information she has to Adel, and get on with the Blue Blood task (her baby's in danger, after all) So, maybe collab with @LanaStorm
As for a possible cooperation, she'll be wary of Matthias... but depending on his offer, she might not turn down the help. She does plan to expand soon... depends on how my interactions go this round... but I would say, Pops' eyes are on Iron Gate next -- another poor district and all.
I find it a little unrealistic if the personnel number reflected the faction size.
Say, if having 5 personnel meant your team is only 5-man strong, and no gyft at that... I don't know how they would've came into control of an entire area, much less multiple... (Not to mention the possibility of being a bare-stick commander after losing an attempt)
If these personnel had their own teams or 'outsourced' certain tasks... But then it would be unrealistic for a group to double or triple in size over 1-2 GM posts (which I don't think spans that long IC), when everyone has already an established faction
