SPECIALTY }} Tech/Gadgets. Addie isn't a hacker or anything, that's too impersonal. Addie is a creator, tinkering rather crude devices for various parts of any given crime plan. Need a get away? Addie's got a killer smoke bomb all ninja-mode. A distraction? Try this potentially unsafe noise maker where the noise is actually small explosives. Need something fixed? Addie probably has a tool for that. Plenty of tools and tech for when the most laid plans of mice and thieving men go awry! James Bond has Q. Batman has WayneTech. You have Addie. God help you.

PERSONALITY }} There's something that goes through the head of everyone when they first meet Addison, or Addie as she likes to be known, and it's somewhere in the range of "this is a joke, right?" Considering the reputation she has (mainly in certain small circles, but she's a hit online!) it always comes as quite a shock that this gadgeteer might actually have more than just a few screws loose. That right there? That's some word play. Addie considers herself something of a wizard - and that's literal - though rather than a wizard that shoots fire or wears pointy hats, Addie thinks of herself as a wizard whose magic wand is a soldering iron and bolt cutters. She's...weird, if one were to put a single defining and vague word down.
But first and foremost, Addie is a rather clever sort. While not an out and out genius or anything (she does struggle so with geography still to this day), Addie has a keen eye and a sharp mind which she hides behind a squirrel-like hyperactivity and slight lunacy. It's always the crazy ones, right? Except Addie isn't crazy, she's just a bit...well more than a bit...eccentric. It stems from a place of negligence, but she'll never tell that to a soul - with Addie, what you see is what you get precisely because that's how she wants it to be.
Addie doesn't really have proper social manners; she can read cues well enough to know when someone is wanting to be left alone or when the mood says 'don't even try to cheer us up right now' but that won't stop her from inserting herself where she is quite possible not wanted; this in turn would lead to someone inserting their foot in their mouth, but Addie doesn't seem to care that others find her more annoying and clingy than endearing and dependable.
A pacifist by nature, Addie shies away from violence and confrontation - when people around her start yelling (be it at one another or at her) she shuts down, buries her head in the sand, and checks out until it's done. That she keeps away from confrontation whenever possible while also providing gadgets and potentially dangerous creations to people who do not mind a bit of confrontation never seemed at all hypocritical to her. She washes her hands when it comes to people using her creations. Addie has her morals, it's just that they are completely skewed and when observed under a lens they don't really make sense or hold up. Much like Addie herself.
No one is quite sure if Addie is just playing the part of 'mad inventor' or if she's genuine. It honestly could go either way. Addie certainly isn't telling, given how secretive she is about herself, but for the most part her gadgets work - though the occasional hiccup is to be expected. She's only human after all. Despite being nearly an adult, Addie is quite child-like in her glee and passion for tinkering with things. It's a wonder anyone would want to associate with her for any extended length of time; but it's also a testament to her gadgetry that people keep giving her work.
STRENGTHS }}
- Addie is quite inventive but rather than inventing stories or whatever other people do Addie is a quick thinking inventive sort around circuitry and metal. Give her an hour and a box of scraps and she just might be able to make a robot or something. Well, maybe not a robot, but something useful enough.
- Assuming the worst, someone like Addie is useful as she does not crack under pressure. She might ask to be left alone but she'd be smiling even as, god forbid, a gun is pointed at her head and she's forced to work. Pressure is just a construct of a weaker mind. She's definitely someone you could trust not to give up information to, say, the authorities.
- Addie is well connected thanks to some online connections in private little corners of the web. While she doesn't exactly know all of these contacts personally, she has been networking ever since she started selling her inventions to the highest bidders in the crime world. Addie makes connections easily. Not friends, mind, as most people don't want to spend time around her, but contacts all the same.
WEAKNESSES }}
- Though she's hyped herself up as a gadget wizard, Addie's constantly afraid that her creations will backfire horribly. There's never any guarantee besides "Well it worked before, right?" when she hands over a gadget but since she makes things without schematics it's a crapshoot when it comes to action.
- Addie's not a very social person and in fact cannot handle large crowds or gatherings of people. She'd stay indoors forever if it were at all possible. Should she be in the middle of crowds, chances are she would clam up and freeze, not sure what to do.
- The reason Addie doesn't follow instructions or schematics is because she can't read. Addie is illiterate and her handwriting is sub-chicken scratch. It's why she conducts all her dealings on a face-to-face basis. Plus there's less of a paper trail that way anyway. The only thing that gets under her skin is people making fun of her for her illiteracy.
HISTORY }} Things would've been so much easier if Addison Tavington was an obly child.
Addie is the youngest child in the Tavington family and with a name like 'Tavington' they must surely be wealthy. The Tavington family takes a bit of pride in tracing their family lineage back as far as it can go, but the main takeaway is that Philip Tavington the Second was part of the American Revolutionary war. A war hero, as it was, and since then the Tavington's have been chasing that legacy, wanting to leave a mark in the history books of the modern era. Philip Tavington the Sixth, Addie's father, is a rather fortunate son. His father, Philip the Fifth, was an investment banker, a trade which Addie's father has taken up as well. Addison's mother, Caroline, is a well known prosecutor, noted for her passion at ensuring criminals get locked up - with her being a staunch supporter of the death penalty when appropriate.
Addison has three older brothers, the twins Philip and Patrick, and Tyler in the middle. Addison, being both the youngest and the only daughter, was a constant after thought in her developing years. The Twins had each other, Tyler was a boy and so got to play with the Twins anyway, and Addie was left on her own. Her father was more worried about grooming an heir and her mother brought her work home damn near every day. What was there to do other than to keep to herself and find something to do?
It started simply enough with LEGO sets. Her brothers never liked building the things, expecting them to come out of the box already assembled. Addie looked at the pictures and started building the sets as best she could. Building things became a hobby of hers. LEGOs fell away and she started building more technical things. A potato light. A little clock. By the time she was twelve, Addison was working with soldering irons and circuit boards that she found in gadget shop trash bins. By the time she was fifteen she had already begun selling devices for the discerning shoplifter.
Her biggest mistake was leaving a calling card on her devices. All the cool characters in the shows did it, so of course she followed their example. It was after an explosive device she made detonated prematurely at a bank job, causing one of the robbers to lose his legs, that Addie was brought into custody. She was ratted out by the robbers who had commissioned her and, after seeing a crude image of a 'robot wizard hat' painted on the casing, there was enough linking her to other, smaller crimes to start building a case against her.
With her mother finally noticing her, albeit in the worst possible scenario, it seemed like Addie's little enterprise was over before it truly got started. But then, how would she have ever known that a little...guardian angel was looking out for her and a handful of others?
OTHER }} Is this where I put the meme? My favorite meme is the one where I didn't know who twenty one pilots was and we got into this shouting match on Discord about it because I said some things and it got real for a second and that's my favorite meme of them I guess? I don't have a picture for that. My bad.
