Oh hey this is here.

EDIT: Oh shit Flagg you actually changed its name to Terminal Mechs INC.? How the hell am I supposed to operate? I wanted to run under a different name and I can't compete against myself!

try building self-destructing mechs?

@Vahir everything looks real good so far.

And @Sigma, I'm looking forward to what you come up with.

We need at least two more players, I think then we can kick things off!
@Flagg I get the feeling Xozu would have at some point thrown a handful of powder at Half-face to see if it killed him, then muttered something about half an orc counting for more than a whole elf...

Ha! I like it. I'm not 100% that Half-Face is any degree of elfish, just thought a mysterious parentage might make for something interesting- glad you ran with the idea!
Once we've gotten enough people, I could make a rough map of the Shoals, showing who controls what territory.

I was counting on it :)

For now, if you're so inclined, but only if you're so inclined, please feel free to make a map based on the existing description and embellish however you like. PM if you want to chat. For now we need more people...

She stood at the top of the ramp, framed by the circle of the Virgilius' exit hatch, taking in the riot of bright neon garishness. Flashing holosigns and flickering flash-ads covered every inch of unused space across the vast hangar, assaulting the eyes and painting the milling crowds and rows of docked ships in alternating, lurid hues. Subliminal adverts zipped across the public NooSphere, forming a constant background buzz in the mind.

Traggert's neurolink was turned off. Her defenses were high-end Guild models, but even so only an idiot would open herself to the Sphere in a place like this- not unless she wanted to risk a mindvirus or corporate spyware monitoring her every thought and feeling.

WELCOME- TRAGGART, DAPHNE- TO DRAKE'S FOLLY, WHERE LUCKY SPACE BEGINS!

A hovering greeter-drone blurted the message at her in a chipper sing-song as it scanned the Virgilius' credentials.

TRAGGART, DAPHNE: PERHAPS YOU WOULD ENJOY A REFRESHING-

She silenced the drone mid-advert with a flash of the Guild barcode on her wrist.

"Affiliation noted- Raynasa Farspace Trading Guild. Retainer rank. How may I be of assistance, miss?" asked the drone, singsong voice gone, optics switching from bright pink to a muted, businesslike blue.

"Take me to the Guildhall."

"Kindly follow me."

She sauntered down the ramp onto the crowded gangway, filled with travelers from every corner of known space, shuffling in all directions: humans, abmen, chimeras, bots and drones, xenos of every description. On either side of the gangway, small and midsized transports and freighters were busily unloading and loading, taking on fuel, water and food, powering engines up or shutting them down. The tradeship docked across from the Virgilius was preparing to leave, its sallow-faced captain haggling with a Xacan dockhand over wages. The Xacan was waving its probisci angrily at the captain, and releasing rank, rage-signaling pheromones. The captain seemed unimpressed.

Traggart pushed past them, following the greeter-drone.

"What brings you to our Station, miss?" asked the greeter drone, it's courtesy routines activating.

Traggart didn't bother to answer. The drone didn't bother with any more questions. It lead her down vaulted corridors lined with seedy shops and eateries, through crooked byways noisy with the chugging of failing air-recyclers, across several auto-lifts and holodecks, many of them sparking disconcertingly. Everywhere was crowded with bustling tradesmen and travelers, every surface crawled with flashing advertisements.

Finally she emerged into the Central Chamber, and though she had been here many times before, she paused for a moment to admire the scale of it. A cavernous metal dome, filled with a makeshift city, windows and ads blazing in the shadowy ambiance. Drake's Folly had once been an Imperial Naval Fortress, this Chamber once home to hundreds of docked ships-of-the-line. Now it was home to the dregs of the galactic economy- every outcast, smuggler, freebooter, or pirate was safe to do business here, welcomed by megacorps free from the burdens of Imperial law or House regulations.

The drone turned to her, questioningly.

"Lead on," she said, and followed it into the twilight city.

"A drink?" asked Gideon Loveless, as she took one of the chairs in front of his desk. The office smelled mildly of spices and pipe-smoke; polished wooden book cases lined the walls, filled with cloth and leather editions, and embers smouldered in a fireplace of magnificent Umantine marble. Traggart smiled slightly. Even in a cesspit like Drake's Folly, Raynasa lived up to its reputation for taste.

"Yes, thank you," she said, and Loveless poured two glasses of Cassidonian Flyn, as rare as it was expensive. He sat behind his desk and pushed a glass across to her. He tipped his own in mock salute and took a sip.

"What's the job?" she asked, tasting her own drink. It burned deliciously. "Must be quite something for you to call me here in person. A simple retainer like me meeting with a Guild Factor- most unorthodox."

Gideon laughed, optical augments whirring slightly as they focused on her.

"Simple retainer indeed," he said, smirking. "The situation is this- an Imperial agent is causing problems for us. Prying into our assets and concerns that lie beyond His Majesty's jurisdiction."

Traggart frowned, "I'm no hitman."

Gideon nodded, ample jowls quivering, "We don't want you to kill him, dear. We want you to find him and turn him. Or, short of that, feed him shit to take back to his masters on Almata."

"That," Traggart replied, "I can do."

"I hope so, Daphne, I hope so. War is brewing in the Crescent. You know that, we all know that. The Guild would prefer it if the....factions currently vying for control of the Shoals did not become entangled on either side. We don't want proxy wars here."
You've read Dan Abnett's Warhammer 40,000 books, haven't you?

Right you are! I couldnt remember where the Lucky Space name came from.

Also, OOC's up:

The Setting

The year is 4500 of the Imperial Era, exactly one millennium after the Sacking of Almata by the Rival Claimants and the final destruction of the Arcturian Empire. The galaxy has known a millennium of chaos as astro-goths, pirate bands and slaver-kings have ravaged the systems of the dead Empire, carving out petty fiefdoms for themselves. Outposts of the old order have struggled to survive amid the general anarchy, fending off barbarian threats or bribing their would-be assailants in exchange for protection. Alien peoples, made vengeful by centuries of humano-centric oppression in the old Empire, have risen up against their former masters and founded space-faring nations of their own amid the general chaos.

Politics along the Golden Crescent

Along the subspace lane known as the Golden Crescent, once a major route of trade and commerce in the Acturian Empire, new powers are arising in the ruins of the old order. The Second Empire recently emerged victorious from a hundred-year war against the astro-goths, reconquering many planets and many millions of subjects in the name of the Successor Emperor Severin IV Arcturus. Consolidating its power, refilling its armies and re-equipping its fleets with old Imperial technology, the Second Empire prepares for a crusade to bring the systems along the Golden Crescent once again under the dominion of a purified humanity.

It's rivals, however, are powerful.

The Seven Houses, a league of First Empire Great Houses that survived the worst ravages of the Dark Ages, view the pretensions of the Second Empire with contempt. The reactionary human aristocrats of the Seven Houses rule over a significant stretch of the Golden Road, and over vast xenos subject populations, and the self-proclaimed Successor Emperor's genocidal ambitions are a threat to their position. The Houses control a formidable fleet of Imperial ships of the line, and have deep pockets.

The third major power along the Golden Crescent is perhaps the most dangerous, since it shares the Second Empire's expansionary vision. The Ascendancy of Kaasid, a theocratic empire open to believers of all sentient species, has used the chaos of the Dark Ages to spread its influence throughout the Golden Crescent, and though it controls a territory much smaller in size and wealth to that of the Seven Houses, it boast unorthodox technology, unity, and fanaticism. The cult of Kaasid appeals to the forward thinking, the anti-racists and anti-reactionaries, promising them a future utopia in which all species are united in brotherhood.

You...

...are not among the great powers. You dwell along a sub-space offshoot of the Golden Crescent, known as the Lesser Arm. Even in the days of the First Empire, the systems adjoining the Arm were known as the Dolorous Shoals: the heart of the Sector's black market, the haunt of pirates and mercenaries, a haven for smugglers, a place for corporations to conceal their assets from Imperial oversight, and a hiding place for terrorists, slavers and fanatics. Since the fall of the Empire, the factions of the Shoals have only increased their tradition of lawlessness and disunity, but as the major powers of the Golden Crescent jockey for position, the Lesser Arm has assumed a greater strategic importance than ever, since whomever controls it can strike at their enemies from a new direction. Which of the powers succeeds at controlling the Dolorous Shoals, or whether they all fail, is up to you and your rivals...

Are you a pirate band? A dictatorship? A small republic? A megacorp? A terrorist cell? Ascendancy heretics? Something else? Something...worse? Do you control a planet or two, or do you hide among ancient space stations and asteroid belts?

-

Ok so that's the basic premise of the RP. The idea here is for an RP set in a far future combination of the American wild west and the Third World during the Cold War, a no man's land where the black market thrives, terrorists and pirates abound, megacorps are unchecked, and agents of major powers vie for influence as major NPC powers are busy gearing up for war with one another. Players will design any type of faction or characters they like in the Shoals, with the understanding that they will be playing the space-nation equivalent of minor, third world powers and non-state actors. As this gains momentum, I would love to design the setting and the major NPC powers collaboratively with the players. Standards here will be advanced.

I know this is a bit complicated, so please feel free to ask questions. CS and NS application forms are below. I will add a rough map of subspace lanes, etc, shortly.

Grolan probably wouldn't get on well with the tough minded warrior till I die Orcs, though any that wax political or spiritual may find him worthwhile conversation.

Looking at the characters so far I suspect most would dislike or distrust him, especially Darku who seems to dislike humans particularly, which Grolan unfortunately resembles. Though anyone who uses a sword might be more respectful of his abilities, or distrust him more like Half Face. (I actually didn't realise the similarity in their fighting styles, nor the similar bucklers, weird coincidence. They would be rivals I think.)

The only character Grolan would inherently dislike, or in actuality probably fear is Hallar the Waterfall, who could easily challenge him to hand to hand combat and outright kill him.

Half Face is much less worried about orcs with superior battle prowess than smart, ambitious orcs.
<Snipped quote by Flagg>

I should probably make one of these as well.

Anyone have any idea on how they stand with Nargesh? I had it in mind to have a pseudo protective guardian kind of deal with someone in the company. Possible long time friend for character building later on.

That might be an interesting twist for Nargesh to have with an orc like Half-Face or Grolan. One being the muscle, the other brains.
