Bio
I've RP'd for the best part of over 15 years now here on the Guild, and particularly like military settings, both contemporary, past and near future. I have even dabbled in a little more experimental RPs, as well as created a plethora of 1x1s over my time in the guild. I like creating RPs with a distinct flavour- and often shift between narrative-led RPs to semi-randomised plots. I've been more a GM lately than a player, and don't really lean into fandom- instead, exploring my own universes lifting themes from other source material.
My main interests are military-themed, near-future RPs, with a focus on technology. But I'm beginning to push what that RP idea looks like- taking inspiration from lots of media and focussing on the fun, indulgent side of RP, whilst also exploring the lows and emotional side.
Raven Squad is a project over seven years in the making, and focusses on a class-based, eccentric yet half-grounded near future special forces team that acts as a response team where you can't send any special forces team in. It's incredibly dumb, incredibly loose, and yet, has delivered some of my favourite plot points in RPG. A brainless action flick a la John Wick and Kingsman meets a complex thriller with a fun left turn in it, Raven has been the culmination of over a decade of loving special forces RPG, gaming influences and other silliness in a package that has provided players with something quite different to a normal military themed RPG. While at an end, this is an RP that is a signature- it's silly as hell, takes itself barely seriously, and is what peak fun military RPG to me should be.
Delta Hyper is a love letter to Wipeout, F1's Drive to Survive (Netflix) and contemporary Formula One, with influences from solarpunk, cyberpunk, transhumanism and other posthumanist concepts. An RP that follows pilots in their ups and downs, it's a story that hasn't got me playing an actual character, but framing the camera at each pilot (played by others), and presenting it as if it were a documentary. Lifting elements from TTRPG, this is a Racing RPG like no other and no parallel exists- using dice rolls and randomisation, with a stats-driven system to generate race results, rather than actually RPing the races, players experience the fast-paced, dynamic world of anti-gravity racing. This means that come Qualifying and Race, the results are genuinely a surprise to everyone- and based on decisions made through dilemmas and decisions made between races. Friendships, rivalry, the glamour and even a little political undertone play out in 2094, in a colourful, utopian future that focuses on the fight to take first place.
Then there's Tactical Breach Wizards: Fireteam Hex. First use of any set IP as a formal setting, this is an RP that offers a darker mirror to Raven Squad, focussing on the other side of the equation- unlikely heroes in an uncomfortable position. I don't normally do fantasy, but the world, the lore, the feeling of the characters and the ability to write a comedy just was too difficult to pass up. An RP that focuses on a group running away from a variety of threats as wanted mercenary wizards in the middle of a post-revolution, Eastern-Europe adjacent 1990s to present Polavia.
Lastly, Dispatch: Heroes of Claremont. This is another IP-adjacent world, albeit drawing on a different setting and a new cast of superheroes. As my "first" proper superhero RP, this combines workplace comedy, a Storyteller-lite system and a fun, diverse, and large cast together in a dynamic, diverse setting.
I'm pretty flexible and try and get back to people on ideas and responses, but sometimes, I may become very busy and it will take some time till I am un-busy. I aim to clear posts within a week!
This is Game of Thrones...and considering the caliber that Garland and Alerie live up to, they know what they owe and what they do not, and what they actually need. So a disfigured Stormlands poses no threat to anyone externally, not even the Reach...Garland doesn't care about The Wall, and if his neighbor is tearing himself apart, it'll just mean there's another Baratheon on the Lord Paramouncy of the Stormlands. This could change if they became united with the Reach, by marriage and a real, actual debt of "We saved your asses", they are basically forced to play along if Garland decides to actually get involved, potentially compromising his vassal numbers. And if say, Dorne wants the Red Church to take power...The Reach suddenly becomes Kingdom No.4 that could be effected by the Domino Effect of the Red Priests' movements that could take over in the Stormlands.
You don't have to change it, you're going to get a response in my post :D The Reach is a kind, chivalrous and noble house after all, it's not like they have an agenda to put out onto anyone. Like you know, killing fucking thousands of rebels in hard, rapid conflict and chaining the Stormlands to Rhaeanyra Targaryen's rule, is their aim. Or, just throwing another random Baratheon onto the Storm King's throne, and saying "Hah, you'll be our puppet".
And yeah...if so, then this is a Cold fucking War, it's definitely going to take relationships between Dorne and The Reach from cosy to a little bit strained. This also means The Reach is shit-stirring with everyone, BUT has a potential ally in the south. Though of course, Garland may just say "Meh" and leave it.
One thing that really does bug me- why would the Tyrells be in debt? That I haven't gotten at all, if it is something I have missed, then yeah...and I would assume that debt isn't dating back to Robert's Rebellion....
Write some letters to other Lords and so on (eg to the Tyrells, to the Crakehalls- no doubt the Baratheons have heard the news too)- that was one thing your post was missing a tad, it allows for arrangements to be made to meet, or generally shit to go down, though due to ravens being shoot-able, it's not always the most advisable thing to put really, really critical information into there. Like how many troops exactly, or very specific nefarious details that involve you. At worst case scenario and when you know it's highly likely, and can afford to have it comprimised, Ravenmail is good.
House Hightower (Last lord was female, married into house Tyrell)
Yep, hence why there's actually a new house, Hightower-Tyrell. I mean, Loras considers himself a Tyrell, but to appease Lady Hightower, they basically created a new branch, which is actually distinct from the regular Tyrell branch- though. I will say though, there are a hell of a lot of second cousins that still have the Tyrell name that Garland has, Brightwater Keep among others comes to mind. Cool, yep :)
Won't be working on a post now apparently, because of cider. Sorry :(
Not in the face, not in the face! The Stormlords will still put up a fight, no doubt- they're some of the hardiest Southerners about, they are still not a foe to underestimate. Numbers aren't their advantage, I think resilience is.
Blue has said something about the Tyrells being on a good friendship with the Baratheons... Also, isn't the ruling seat of the Stormlands from Storm's End, not Dragonstone? That's technically Crownlander territory, and I assume would be held by a Valyrian at the very least, if not a Targaryen or generally a Baratheon of a different line. Also, if there was a rebellion in the Stormlands, I am going to assume that if Garland was told between one very unpopular leader who ought to be a maester, and his competent older sister (unmarried, or not?) to support any side, he'd do the latter, in return for the Stormlands unquestioning loyalty to the Iron Throne. Just marry her to some obscure Baratheon if you had to (hey, Royal Families do this all the time...even now!) and there you are, keeps the line for her, still in childbearing years too.
I would imagine that House Baratheon, basically bordering the Crownlands too, will want a stake in what is going on with the Seven Kingdoms, but from what I see in your post, the Stormlands can barely fucking hold itself together- so an action like I said could tip the balance....or so could a Dornish raid like no other, capitalizing on chaos, which at this point, is actually just as likely. Mind you, I don't see a Tyrell debt to House Baratheon, so who knows really, they might just let them fight it out then side with the winner. Depends how the power play works out. I could definitely see Alerie coming to visit Storm's End at some point, to chat with her female equivalent in House Baratheon, and it would be almost like a house-clean, or at the very least, to get them on side with the actions of the Tyrells. Game of Thronesy shit.
Holy fuck. That OST just went perfectly...almost did cry. And so ends the Lannister dynasty for good. Add to that bodycount a whole host of Tyrell guards, and a significant quantity of Tarly and Blackmont men.
I'm going to maybe work away on a post later this evening, though I know that Abefroeman has a post to make before I do, a massive collab we were working on. I may want to do collabs with a whole host of people- I know @Apoalo, yourself Blue, @Kingfisher and maybe even a continued one with @Abefroeman are on the cards...meh, maybe not this evening, but it can be started this evening, also tying in a letter to House Baratheon among others.
I wouldn't post till Blue says so, or he works more stuff out with you- he has final say, but he's a nice guy. Honest. Wouldn't dare come close to absolutely fucking you over for fun.
Lord Tyget Crakehall wants to be King, claiming ancestry through a Targaryen marriage of past and proclaiming it, Lord Garland Tyrell is Hand of the King (who is dead, by the way, prior to IC, alongside a box with his wife's head sent to Garland) and almost getting his fucking throat slit by the batshit mentalist Daenys Targaryen, the rejected Targaryen heir (twin of Aegon), who is suspected of murdering just about half the fucking royal household, and nearly Garland. He's kinda opposed, and this factionalism means that there's an allusion to a war brewing, that could mean all manners of shit raises before winter, because oh yeah, Winter is Coming! The Riverlands are like "Nope" to all of this talk of war that the Tyrells and Crakehalls are speaking about, as are the Vale, though they're kinda awesome anyway because of falcons, scented candles and Ellion Arryn just saying "Cool, whatever". Tyget, Gerald, Tywin (so two brothers and Tyget's son) AND the whole fucking populace of Dorne have an interest in the Red God, while Garland has an interest in kissing Targaryen ass, getting fucked on Arbor Gold and then fucking women, while Ellion is busy flying birds of prey and being the world's greatest...wingman ( :P the puns never end, you see), all while Princess Eliana of Dorne is basically at a crazy combination of a waterpark and a sandy and exotic environment (kinda like Vegas, but with more tits, young boys and people armed to the fucking teeth with spears), ALL WHILE there's a couple of marriages between the North and Westerlands, and some intrigue between Jehrilla, the chubby Yunkish woman, and Alerie Tyrell.
So for Garland, this has meant he has fucked a gluttonous and huge Yunkish woman who is selling mercenaries and other mischievous services, and two young Targaryen Princesses are riding their dragons to King's Landing to meet a Tyrell Retinue inside the city. Oh, and Daenys Targaryen is basically killing a few people, but is now sitting in a prison cell in Highgarden, while that big Yunkish woman is basically being in the right place at the right time to sell services to the Lords who might actually start fucking each other over. Not all is well however, as the Tyrells have been fed Maester as their pork dish, something something Faceless Men had something to do with it something something. There's been border squabbles, the Commander of the Goldcloaks was "Removed Forcibly" alongside about a sixth of his forces from King's Landing, predominantly by being impaled or stabbed, and now, the Reach is sliding it's sweaty hand up the skirt of the Targaryens that HAVE emerged as an alternative to the Crakehalls version of self-declared "Kingship", which people are either "Fuck you" or "Meh, whatever, I can roll with that" about it.
All in the while, the North and Iron Islands are kicking seven shades of shit out each others' throats in the highest escalation yet, with a shitload of Mormonts getting murdered, followed by Iron Islanders up rivers getting murdered. It's basically red as fuck, people are getting murdered to all shit with constant bloodshed, and the North is extremely paranoid and wily of shit down south. They don't like us, we don't like them, Ned Stark etc. etc. .
MEANWHILE at Castle Black, Tyron Lannister is trying to unfuck shit from Wildlings to other players in the Houses. Because as usual, nobody gives a fuck that there's Wights coming and the Kingdoms are once again, completely screwed when Winter comes, because everyone is only going to realize at the last minute that we're all going to starve to death, freeze to death, or worse still, get fucked by White Walkers.
So basically, classic Game of Thrones. Amazingly, no major character has died...YET. Fuck, one almost did, and I am almost certain that in the near future, there is going to be at least one.
See, it's a great RP, and your character looks interesting in their premise...though there is a lot more to the whole affair going on, and as you can tell, there is a huge level of depth to this, though...remember, it's all about how you play the game, and what you want to get out of it. I love how batshit your character could be, this mad sort of scientific mind. Though that said, the Baratheons have a big part to play, military wise, they're really weathered forces, though weakened no doubt after the War of the Five Kings. Blue can probably iron it out with you- but yeah, they're a significant house, the very last piece of the jigsaw puzzle...
Also, don't be intimidated by the scale of the CSes, they took an age to make. So I guess even if it were a WIP, it would be nice to see. Also, PM the GM- he will definitely know more about House Baratheon...and from what I hear, they're loosely allied to the Tyrells...
Blue has mentioned this in the past, but I am sure that whatever you end up doing, I am definitely sure that it'll be good :)
