Soooooo....are we starting her off by talking to the headmaster?

Lila dropped the Marks into Cooper's hands and smiled. "Say, it's getting kind of late...how long do you think fixing her up will take?" she asked.

Jane gave a small nod to the answers to her question. She had been hoping that was the answer. The more people, the better chances of survival. Well, for her anyway. For people better suited for the dangerous outside world, perhaps going solo would be preferable. But not to Jane. Away from the sheltered, safe environment of the school, she would have to rely on others if she wanted to live.

Liz's sudden movements with her crowbar made Jane remember about her own weapon, if you could even call it that. Jane had never really needed a very effective weapon, seeing as she rarely left the building, so she was content with the three-foot long paper cutter she had found in the science room. She reached to her side, where the blade hung from a carabiner looped through her belt loop and the hole in the cutter's handle. She unhooked it from the carabiner with shaky hands and and let it dangled in her right hand. It seemed to mirror the timid doctor: awkward, small, and not made for fighting. It could do many things, but killing just wasn't really what it excelled at. But she held onto it so tightly in her fist, as if she could ward off all of life's problems with a single swipe of the thing.

Appearance:

Name: Opal Hampson

Age: 16

Power: Heh heh...about that...Opal doesn't actually have any natural powers. She is a mechanical genius, and is able to, given enough time, create tools that replicate the powers of others.  Currently, the only inventions she has is the clothes she wears.  They appear to be just normal, if not colorful, clothing: a blue hoodie, a white tank top with little red and orange flakes, blue jeans, a green scarf, and white shoes and socks.  But this outfit is anything but normal. Sewn into the clothes are large amounts of tiny, powerful lights.  These lights can be manually controlled by a bracelet sewn into the left wrist of the hoodie, but can be remotely controlled with a ring on her left hand's ring finger. In the center of this ring is a small piece of opal. When she presses down on the opal, her clothing begins to glow, softly at first, but brighter the longer she pushes down the stone on the ring.  For extra security, she has made it so that the ring only responds to the wearer.  She calls all this "The Opal Suit".

Symbol: Opal (not the common white kind, but the more colorful ones)

Bio: Opal is the only daughter of Emily Hampson, a well-known geologist in the science community, and George Hampson, a less well-known inventor in, well, every community, and inherited the best traits of both of them. She's, as I said before, a mechanical genius, and has been creating little gadgets and gizmos since she was little. She also has extensive knowledge of jewels and minerals. At the age of 16, she started hearing rumors of a school.  A school full of people who...adopted traits and abilities of different types of gems.  Opal, of course, was curious.  She told her parents about it and preposed a plan: she would pretend to be special using one of her inventions, and study the students from the inside, nothing more, nothing less.  So she applied for the school, and got an opportunity to get in.  That is, if she fools them.

Is it ok if her first scene is of her and the headmaster, where she's basically talking to him about joining the school even though she'd be getting a big of a late start? I think it'd be a nice, simple opportunity for Gem to figure out that she's not actually special.
I expect she'll be sort of a chameleon character. Given enough time, she can create some sort of tool that replicate other powers.

Jane glanced at the blue-haired girl who was now standing next to her, only a yard or two away, and showed the smallest hint of a smile. Before the apocolypse, Liz had been her...acquaintance. They hung out at school, partnered up on projects when it was needed, and sometimes even ate their lunches together. But alas, Jane did not have time outside of school for anyone but herself and her books. And though Liz was merely an acquaintance, she was Jane's only acquaintance, and the closest thing Jane ever had to a friend. Once the illness struck, she supposed she did grow a bit closer to the girl, and really everyone else. After all, they did have to live in the same building, and they had to work together to survive. But she spent her time trying to figure out how the disease works rather than socializing with the others.

Jane realized that she had been looking at the girl longer than she meant to, as she had gotten carried away thinking about the good old times, and that another guy, Alex if she was remembering correctly, had just talked to Moses, but was done. The almost smile vanished from her face and was replaced with the professional straight face she had worn before. "Well, if I'm theorizing correctly, it won't actually be rotting...you see, the-...n-never mind...I'll wait to explain the science until i-it's actually p-proven." she said. She then was silent for a few moments before asking, "H-How exactly does scavenging work? D-Do we split up, or all go together?"

Is Gem the head of the school or something? To answer your question, if he's against it, then he wouldn't be able to know. If he's okay with it, he can know.

@KatherinWinter
I was wondering if I could make a human geologist character who goes into the school pretending to be one of these special gem people in order to study them. She'd sort of use gems and minerals to create special tools as a substitute for powers.

I'm sorry but we only take in people with red cape-- ooohhh! Yes sure. Come in come in. Want a cookie and some hot chocolate? We have feet massages and Meghan Trainor songs.

I will take all of the above! :D

I'm gonna post my cs later.
