I am a veteran of the United States Army and the US Army National Guard. I spent three years on Active Duty serving in the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Ft. Carson, CO, and the 3rd Armor Division at Kirch Göns, West Germany. I spent 18 years in the Army National Guard with the 26th Infantry Division "Yankee" and 29th Infantry Division (Light), "The Blue and the Gray". I was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina with the 29th ID (L) in 2001 - 2002. I have also been reading military history articles and books since I was 10 years old. I do prefer Military Role Plays over all other genres, primarily because I have a vast knowledge of the subject including personal experiences. At the very least, my characters are always veterans.
I have been writing for pleasure for at least 35+ years but only got into forum-based Role Playing about eighteen years ago. I do enjoy Nation Role Plays and get into minute detail when designing my military. The only reason I enjoy excruciating detail in my militaries is because for me, it is fun. My education and experience on this subject afford me the insight to see the depth of the structure. It is not just a General and a large pile of soldiers. If someone wants assistance in designing an army, navy, or air force, please send me a PM. I will help. Please specify what level (echelon) or depth you would like me to go. When I say echelon, I mean Army, Corps, Division, Brigade/Regiment, Battalion/Squadron, Company/Troop/Battery, Platoon, and Squad/Section.
When I was a student in High School, I used to play Dungeons & Dragons. Recently, I have been DMing a 5e campaign of my creation for my son and his friends. 5e is so much less cumbersome than earlier editions of D&D. I do have an interest in Tolkien-esque fantasy-styled Role Plays as well. Time travel has always been a fun genre for me, but to do it well, one must have a firm grasp of historical facts.
There are only a few fanfictions I will participate in; Star Wars and Star Trek are two of them. I want to do an exclusively Klingon RP one of these days. I also avoid Canon characters.
I have real-world martial arts experience. I would love to write an RP about hand-to-hand combat, no fantasy magic chit, just hands elbows, knees, and feet. Maybe the occasional head butt thrown in to mix things up. I trained in Krav Maga for six and a half years. I earned a first-degree black belt in Krav Maga on 3 June 2017.
Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art form that employs practical self-defense techniques drawing forms & techniques from Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Taekwando. It is very brutal, demanding, and aggressive. During the seven years I trained, I have bruised two ribs, sustained several muscle pulls, and various lacerations and bruises over my body. I have received a sprained ankle and a fractured wrist. Before the first black belt test, I received a bone bruise to my right shin; where my roundhouse kicks impact. Yet, I am stupid enough to continue training. [Regardless of the physical pain, it is more fun than any other physical activity I have engaged in. Fortunately, the bone bruise healed up prior to the third and final test. EDIT: I did leave the sport over five years ago. :(]
Over two years ago I completed my first novel, a science fiction set in the 24th century. It focuses on a Private Military Corporation solely employed by the earth government. I started a second book in November 2022 and hope to work on that this summer when I have more time.

I should have something up this evening.
Hamza picked up the latest edition of Al Jazeera in the airport as well as US News and World Report. He liked to compare and contrast the perspective of the articles. Obviously both the newspaper and the magazine presented articles the other did not deem news worthy, but Hamza was more curious about the stories they both paid attention to. It was almost comical how the Americans who wrote the articles for US News and World Report almost always got it wrong.
A young woman, maybe eighteen or nineteen years of age, preened herself in a small mirror. She was beautiful. Everyone knew that. 'slut,' Hamza thought to himself. 'Just another impure infidel in a less than holy land. They will all burn in hell.' The young woman held up a smart phone and smiled as she took several photographs of herself. Hamza tried so hard to contain his laughter. The young woman looked completely foolish performing this self glorification. It was disgusting. This person obviously believed they were the most precious creature on the planet. The arrogance of this person could cause Hamza to vomit. 'Such pitiful display of abysmal behavior,' Hamza shook his head and returned to reading the magazine.
Eventually the flight attendants called for the passengers to board the flight. Hamza stood up, straightened his tie and draped his suit coat over his left arm. He picked up the carry-on luggage, after placing the periodicals inside and slid the strap over a shoulder. He then got into the weary procession of travelers to take their seats on the Boeing 777. His first way point prior to returning home was a tourist trap in the South Pacific. From there, he would make his way to Indonesia and then on to Tehran. But today, he was traveling under the name, Habib Najafi. Mr. Najafi was a warehouse manager outside Tehran and had been studying American Operations. It was all mundane to Hamza, happy to be going home.
A few hours into the flight, Hamza fell asleep. When the aircraft buffeted through rough winds, he started awake. He looked out the small window next to the seat. The starboard engine flamed quickly, the aircraft buckled under the explosion. It shook the aircraft, which then leaned toward the now non-functioning turbine. Black smoke poured from the exhaust as the seventy-four meter aircraft plummeted toward earth.
The vision of the plane going down caused Hamza to rethink his priorities. He quickly fastened his seat belt. Maybe it was a reaction to the vision of the fiery engine, maybe it was a reaction to training he'd received in the Army or maybe it was the flashing light above his seat. He closed his eyes and began praying to Allah. He knew he would be all right, but the realization that his life could be ending in the next few minutes overwhelmed his senses. He closed his eyes.

History: Hamza grew up in Tehran, Iran knowing the righteousness of the Koran. When Hamza graduted secondary school, he spent time in the Army and then attended the University of Tehran (UT), School of Business. He holds a Master's of Business Administration and Secondary Baccalaureate in Political Science. Prior to attending University, Hamza served as an Infantryman in the Islamic Republic of Iran Army. He enjoyed his time in the military and learned a lot about the conduct of a soldier. After his initial two years with the Artesh (Army), he transferred to Sepah, the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution. During his time with Sepah, he attended classes at UT. At the age of 24, Hamza graduated from UT with his degrees and accepted a position with the Iranian News Service, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
As a member of the IRNA and concurrently a member of Sepah, he gets to travel the world covering various stories. In his time both in formal education and abroad, he has learned several languages. Hamza speaks Farsi (Native), Arabic (90%), French (75%), English (75%) and Russian (60%). He is currently studying Mandarin Chinese and may be 20% proficient in that language.
Hamza traveled to the United States in 2008 to observe American Politics during the Presidential elections. It was an eye opening experience and has only fomented his hatred of Americans. He spent eight months in the Washington DC area and learned a lot about American culture and politics as well as business operations.
In December 08 and January 09, Hamza found himself in the Gaza strip covering the story of the Israeli domination and subjugation of the Palestinian people. After the work he performed in Gaza, Hamza was reassigned to Pakistan. He spent the next two years working out of the embassy and the IRNA in Karachi and frequent trips to Jalalabad, Afghanistan.
In 2011, Hamza was promoted in both the Sepah and the IRNA. He received his first opportunity as a reporter, telling the people of Iran about events erupting around the world. Many of his reports were rebroadcast on Al-Jazeera. In January, he was in North Africa covering the "Arab Spring" and the fighting going on between the Muammar Gaddafi's government and the rebellious faction wishing to remove him from power. Hamza bin Ahmadi Al Enezi was close to the fighting, reporting on the events of the Libyan Civil War.
In 2012 and 2013, Hamza covered the Syrian Uprising. It is rumored that when the Hezbollah joined the fighting in 2013, that Hamza joined with a unit to fight alongside brothers he served with in Sepah. There is no confirmation of those rumors. But his primary reason was as a News Reporter.
In 2014, Hamza found himself back in the United States observing American Politics at various levels, learning more about the culture and establishing ties with Iranian Americans. It was during a trip that found Hamza aboard the doomed aircraft which crashed on a deserted island in the south pacific.
Personality: He is completely faithful to the Ayatollah of Iran and is a committed believer in the Islamic faith, reading the Koran daily. He prays to Allah even when not in the Middle East. To a westerner, Hamza is a very polite and friendly Iranian man who would help them if needed. Behind their back, he would rather stick them with a knife. He hates Americans especially. All Westerners, but Americans epitomize all that is wrong with the world. He is waiting for the day, when the Sepah calls him up to perform a Jihad for Allah. In the meantime, he puts on the plastic face he learned how to apply while living in Virginia.
As far as sticking to how "Sweden does things", is that really necessary? I understand the theme of how HeySeuss wants to do things. I've always approached fictional nation RPs as "make it up as you go." I understand that everyone speaks German. I've even included a few "Mits" and "Die"s in the text, but using something that happens to be German, Finnish, Swedish, Russian or Bulgarian should be up to HeySeuss. I would not be opposed to using a Chinese or Australian method of doing something. Just sayin'.
Tank Desant Is a technique the Soviets used before they found halftracks/armored personnel carriers. Maybe diesen Augstbergen employ the same technique? Another thing the Soviets were famous for on the Eastern Front was to push their armies as far as they could go until they got to the point that they had exhausted all their resources and simply could not go any further. They would then go into a hasty defense until their Logistics trains could catch up with them. It usually meant spending 3-7 days in this Defense waiting for fuel and ammo to come forward.
I'll throw my hat in. I had a similar idea set in the North African desert in Dec 1988; reference Pan Am Flt 103, Lockerbie, Scotland. The good thing about 1988, is there were no GPS on commercial airliners then.
I'm pretty sure you are correct, Goldmarble. I left the military 11 years ago. Artillery and mortar rounds were still packed in wooden boxes then. Probably still are.
On another note, there may be other assets in our platoon sector to help out with Anti Armor, possibly even light armor or 37mm AT guns. But that's up to HS.
