If you are a fan of Warhammer 40,000 or Age of Sigmar, let me know. Maybe we can put together an RP. I play Ironjawz & Kruleboyz in AOS and Salamanders & Drukhari in 40K.

Bio

I am a veteran of the United States Army and the US Army National Guard. I spent three years on Active Duty serving in the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Ft. Carson, CO, and the 3rd Armor Division at Kirch Göns, West Germany. I spent 18 years in the Army National Guard with the 26th Infantry Division "Yankee" and 29th Infantry Division (Light), "The Blue and the Gray". I was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina with the 29th ID (L) in 2001 - 2002. I have also been reading military history articles and books since I was 10 years old. I do prefer Military Role Plays over all other genres, primarily because I have a vast knowledge of the subject including personal experiences. At the very least, my characters are always veterans.

I have been writing for pleasure for at least 35+ years but only got into forum-based Role Playing about eighteen years ago. I do enjoy Nation Role Plays and get into minute detail when designing my military. The only reason I enjoy excruciating detail in my militaries is because for me, it is fun. My education and experience on this subject afford me the insight to see the depth of the structure. It is not just a General and a large pile of soldiers. If someone wants assistance in designing an army, navy, or air force, please send me a PM. I will help. Please specify what level (echelon) or depth you would like me to go. When I say echelon, I mean Army, Corps, Division, Brigade/Regiment, Battalion/Squadron, Company/Troop/Battery, Platoon, and Squad/Section.

When I was a student in High School, I used to play Dungeons & Dragons. Recently, I have been DMing a 5e campaign of my creation for my son and his friends. 5e is so much less cumbersome than earlier editions of D&D. I do have an interest in Tolkien-esque fantasy-styled Role Plays as well. Time travel has always been a fun genre for me, but to do it well, one must have a firm grasp of historical facts.

There are only a few fanfictions I will participate in; Star Wars and Star Trek are two of them. I want to do an exclusively Klingon RP one of these days. I also avoid Canon characters.

I have real-world martial arts experience. I would love to write an RP about hand-to-hand combat, no fantasy magic chit, just hands elbows, knees, and feet. Maybe the occasional head butt thrown in to mix things up. I trained in Krav Maga for six and a half years. I earned a first-degree black belt in Krav Maga on 3 June 2017.

Krav Maga is an Israeli martial art form that employs practical self-defense techniques drawing forms & techniques from Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Taekwando. It is very brutal, demanding, and aggressive. During the seven years I trained, I have bruised two ribs, sustained several muscle pulls, and various lacerations and bruises over my body. I have received a sprained ankle and a fractured wrist. Before the first black belt test, I received a bone bruise to my right shin; where my roundhouse kicks impact. Yet, I am stupid enough to continue training. [Regardless of the physical pain, it is more fun than any other physical activity I have engaged in. Fortunately, the bone bruise healed up prior to the third and final test. EDIT: I did leave the sport over five years ago. :(]

Over two years ago I completed my first novel, a science fiction set in the 24th century. It focuses on a Private Military Corporation solely employed by the earth government. I started a second book in November 2022 and hope to work on that this summer when I have more time.

Send me a PM for a Role Play or if you would like to see what sort of an army I could build for you.

If it's allowed, I'd like to reserve the bowman position...

In an RP like this, I think it would be safe to assume there are multiple archers and infantry. I intend to leave that slot open. If someone is willing to promote my character, then by all means, I will step up. If not, I don't care. I've been a grunt, a platoon leader and a company commander in real life. I can write for either position effectively.

I'm glad someone appreciated that. LOL
@LordLinguinie Essentially, all I have done is to place a small detachment, called a vedette of six or seven horseman to Kayne's front and another similarly sized element to his flank. The vedette on the flank is about a kilometer away. The vedette to his front will fluctuate over time and terrain between one and three kilometers. Their purpose is to prevent your main body of infantry; spearmen, swordsmen, archers or what have you. You can design your force as you see fit. Organize them however you like. The Cavalry is simply there to protect your main body from being surprised. If something should happen, Radford and/or Cedric will send a rider back to let you know what they see.
Radford

The Young Hawk was excited about his prospects; the anxiety, mildly overwhelming. He focused his breathing, calming himself to not let it get the better of him. His pet hawk, Pecker alighted upon his left arm; taking up a spot on his armor. Radford fed the bird a morsel from one of his pouches. “Yea, little Pecker, you will ride into battle with me, won’t you boy?” The young man spoke softly towards his avian friend.

Radford watched his Lord father gallop toward him from the stables, preparing for whatever engagement lay ahead. Radford admired the level of confidence his father exuded. His presence filled the son with confidence. He could see things with such clarity. He recalled every lesson he learned from Rennault and Lord Kayne.

As his Rennault moved closer, he listened to his words, “Son, you will have our lead. If anything, so much as a damn bird crosses your path, inform me at once. This is no time for heroics. Start forming at the ready once you see Ryger’s forces.” Radford peered into his Lord Father’s eyes. Their appearance conveyed a heavier tone than the words he uttered.

“Yes, my lord!” Radford responded without hesitation. Then he turned to Cedric, “Lord Smallwood, if you please, take a vedette of six horse and cover our flank. Place yourself about a kilometer from Lord Kayne between him and Lord Ryger’s lands. Send a rider back to our Lord Ashton in the event you spot anything from that direction." A vedette is a term used by cavalry formations to denote an observation post or covering force to provide security for the main body, preventing it from being surprised. He then looked at the Lancers, “Mr. Coventry, choose five men and follow me. We are screening the front.” Radford spurred the dark stallion, wheeling him towards the city's entrance.

Radford wasted no time. When his screening force was ready, the Young Hawk lead the way, trotting out of the city, heading along the road that would take the Lashton force into Lord Ryger’s lands. Once clear of the wall, the vedette galloped forward; a Lashton banner flapping in the wind overhead. The young man was thrilled. He looked back at the city, keeping an eye on the Lashton forces arrayed behind him. It was truly impressive. His hawk, Pecker flapped its wings taking flight, keeping an eye on the surrounding countryside.

You'll keep me safe, won't you boy, Radford thought to himself as though he were communicating with the bird; his eyes.
@Gunther Since Radford is at the lead I'll let you guide us into the battle stage.

Advanced & Casual
I write with Advanced Standards. I prefer the Advanced Roleplay section; to write with authors who's writing skills are at parity with my own. Often, I find there are few Advanced Roleplays available I am interested in, which forces me to join Casual Roleplays. Unfortunately, I have a difficult time maintaining the brevity required for the casual setting. I try to gauge the group as to how much content they produce for my own purpose. I do not want to frighten anyone away.

I love Nation Role Plays, but haven't found a decent one on this forum in about three or four years. The last one I was really interested in was HeySeuss' Mutually Assured Destruction. In fact, in that particular role play I once made a post that encompassed eight pages of text on MS Word (12pt., Times New Roman). It contained 55 paragraphs. But I was addressing five separate issues and one section was a Collaboration with one of the other writers.

I rarely get into 1x1s, but know I would excel there. I find many folks are interested in Romance, which is a topic I never explicitly say I am interested in. However, I have seen a romance evolve when it was unintended. Since military themed role plays are always my favorite, I would be interested in a 1x1 where my partner and I write as several different characters including NPCs who are embroiled in some yet to be conceived conflict.

I truly don't have a whole lot of time to commit to this hobby and end up writing in only two or three at a time.

Check out Gunther's Grammar Guide.
There are many pages of George Martin's books devote to the head of house or Hand to the King sitting in a lofty chair dispensing with edicts, fines, punishments or compensation to those peasants and others who come to the local castle to receive justice or assistance in some matter. It is very similar to a judge in court. A few of the incidents are clues about the over arcing plot of the story, but much of it is simply mundane to catch a glimpse of what goes on at court.
Sometimes it is best to leave the numbers grey.

Put out scouts about 1-3 Km in front of the Vanguard/Main Body. Put scouts out on the flanks as well. About 10 horses in each detachment. If they detect anything, they do not stand and fight, they return to you and tell you what they find. This way, you do not get surprised. Leave a small detachment in the rear to act as a rear guard. Maybe the remainder of the horse. Use your squires, son and other knights in your party as runners to pass information back and forth while coordinating a fight.

I noticed LordLinguinie used the term, battalion in defining the military organization Lord Lashton is going to lead on his campaign/raid/attack or whatever you want to call it. What's nice about the word is it allows the organization's strength to remain undefined. A battalion could number anywhere from a few hundred to just over a thousand. I thought I would throw a company-sized element of light cavalry (lancers) for good measure. Nice to have some eyes to look at a distance or to weight an attack; break up an enemy formation.
