Current Pirates, monsters, magic, islands and no civilization to steal from. Hmm.

Now, what happens when you have a bunch of monsters that were living in a forest and they get transmigrated into a futuristic urban setting?

I know that few, if any, people on this site would be interested in it... but... I just got an idea for a SAO/GGO/XCOM/UFO crossover... fun tingles...

Life has never given mankind sufficient time... nor sleep... nor comprehension. If it had, we would have stopped trying.

It can be greatly refreshing to return to a thing that one has long loved.

We're running a limited circuit of town but we're doing it during Day 1 Night.@Zelosse

I think that we were all on the same page but we're waiting for Lightbox before we continue since he's 50% of our gaining crew.@BlackPanther
I feel your pain, @Zelosse. Overtime always sucks. I'll be online tomorrow so we can start looking at options and such then. Unfortunately, I only have a very limited art program available. It's geared toward painting rather than drawing so... ick.
It's just that there's only so many ways for it to work well with so many authors involved. It is impressive that we were on the same page so quickly though. Oh, did you get the link for that Floor 2 map that I roughed out?@Zelosse
That's why I don't recommend having actual times and only a four part day cycle. Morning, Midday, Evening, and Night allow numerous opportunities for people to miss each other by as much as a couple hours without having to fix anything. Being too specific can get to be a problem really quickly.

Though that does remind me of something else that gets to be confusing with differing timelines. Weather. I think that the canon had Floor-wide weather that varied. But, if we do any real weather mentioning then we should probably decide to do either heavily localized or Hawaii boring. Basically, either the weather at a given time of day on a given Floor is always the same or weather changes rapidly with micro-weather fronts that may only affect a hundred yards at a time.

Any thoughts on that?
@Zelosse
If we're doing divergent timelines then we should probably do day and time.

Day 1: Night

Day 3: Midday

etc.

We'd have to coordinate time-skips too. We don't want any of our industrious groups to lose the benefit of a day or two. It could matter.
@Zelosse
This kind of thing always seems to happen when there are a lot of players trying to come together. Once the group gets together it will probably split into several groups. If that happens the way I think it will then we'll end up with two or three parties operating with different priorities. I know that one is probably going to prioritize profit and fun. Another will probably be more driven to beat the butt hair off of a certain programmer. Characters with different views on how to live inside the game will likely have a hard time working together well.

On another note, I had a pair of characters, close friends, in mind for this too. I may even include them later on. But, they wouldn't fit right now and we have enough parts to wait on. The soonest that I could even offer to add them would be after we pass Floor 20 because of the quests and skills that they had under their belt. Speaking of Floor 20, I think that I should help out with maps. There's 98 more field Floors and a castle on top. I don't want to dump that whole mess on any one person.@Zelosse
And let's get through to the fun part, shall we? Let the hunt begin!

Tailpin crossed the gate threshold and stopped while his perception based skills activated. It took a second or two longer than he though it would. The designers included temporary blindness in this game. That was thoroughly done, and dangerous. They would have to watch where they looked. Any source of light could make them blind for up to five seconds or so. The dark was not as absolute now that his skills were active but absolute darkness descended all too quickly at the limit of his spot range. He equipped his bow and both quivers. The system allowed both a back quiver and a hip quiver but the hip quiver replaced his sword. He would have no hand-to-hand defense but he had the option of using his unlimited training arrows for most battles and his upgraded arrows if a stronger target presented itself.

"You're right, Emp. Stay between Re and me unless I give you a direction and watch for targets of opportunity." Tailpin said as he swept his gaze from one side to another before proceeding along the road. It headed east as far as he could see but they weren't going for distance tonight. "Re, keep an eye on our six and keep us from being surprised. I'll focus on pulling the monsters near our path. Though... it doesn't look like anything is close to the road. Let's keep an eye on that. If all monsters on this Floor avoid the road at night then all the players need to know that."

He pulled a training arrow from his back quiver and nocked it to the string but kept it pointed into the dirt of the road. The walk along the road was dull, though creepy. The night was quiet but the breeze continued to caress the plains. It seemed like the wind never stopped in the flying castle of Aincrad and it seemed to whisper sometimes, but he couldn't pick out any words. At last, after carefully following the road and neither seeing nor hearing anything dangerous, they reached the place where they had planned on beginning their rough country trek. Looking at his companions he found himself a little envious. They only had to really watch the small area around them. But, Tailpin had to notice enemies when they were far enough away for him to make a difference with a bow. He swallowed that feeling down deep inside and held it tightly.

"Here we go." He said softly. There was no telling how nightfall would change the monsters and he was still only level two. Though, that would change tonight.

Tailpin stepped off the packed dirt of the road and onto the grass of the rolling plains. There were many low hills and shallow depressions. They weren't much of a problem but they created blind spots that could hide dangerous monsters. He kept his body low and his bow up with his eyes sweeping over everything and jumping to examine any movement that stood out. They had covered almost a hundred feet of plain before Tailpin suddenly stopped and clicked his tongue once, sharply. There was something up ahead in a depression.

"Wolves. Two... three... no, five." He whispered softly as he counted.

He raised his bow and pulled the arrow back to full draw, setting his sites on the wolf farthest away from them. He steadied his breath and prayed that the AI was just smart enough for this to work. Then he loosed the arrow. He pulled another, managing to nock it without looking just as the first arrow hit its target. The wolf's health dropped into the yellow. The other wolves turned to look at the wounded one. He pulled the next arrow back and loosed it at the same wolf, dropping it into the red. The whole pack was running in their direction by the time the third arrow hit, reducing the wolf to azure shards.

"Four incoming, three shots each, two at 12 one at 10 and one angling for 3." Tailpin said, speaking as sharply as he jerked the next arrow back. Three arrows per wolf meant that he had to fire fast. The distance between them wouldn't last long. He aimed at the two that were approaching from 12 o'clock and fired as fast as he could. He only managed two more arrows before the wolves closed the distance.
I'm ok with collab for the scouting mission, as I posted previously. That will let us coordinate better and catch any inconsistencies before the posting. I was planning on open response before departure though, not that that would take that much longer.

Utu-ja was never comfortable with social situations. But, he knew how to fake it when he had to. He only turned his head to look at the source of the voice that had wished him luck when he had heard from Daelin where they were supposed to go. Then he turned and raised a long arm to clap the boy on the shoulder as he passed in a friendly way.

"You'll need it more." He said quietly with a gentle look from his deep brown eyes. The boy would be part of the assault. Scouting parties had the advantage of stealth to reduce their odds of catching enemy arrows. "Don't turn into a quiver." Then he walked on, avoiding notice as before, with his fingers nearly touching the ground. The boy hadn't been rude so Utu had hope that he would survive. There weren't enough nice people.

He swung by his tent and grabbed the rest of his gear and his bow before going to Daelin's tent, still arriving well before the other two volunteers. The tent smelled of herbs and leather and other things that Utu never could seem to recognize. It smelled like Daelin too. The smells always made his nostrils tighten a little to keep from being overwhelmed. Still, it was always a good day when he was here. It meant work and a chance to impress the boss again and make the nords less of a danger to one misshapen argonian.

Utu-ja had been going to just stand by the entrance and wait as he had done before, but Daelin brought up that other matter. Utu had been wondering what was going on when he received that paper. He had looked at it briefly but it was just more ink scratches on paper to him. It was good luck that he had a chance to deal with this before the work started in earnest.

He reached into one of his oiled packs and drew out the letter. He looked thoughtful for a moment before stepping forward and putting it down on Daelin's desk. The letter bothered him a lot. It even bothered him enough to show in subtle twitches of his tail. He had no living family or anyone else who could know where he was. So, how did this letter arrive? Besides, he couldn't read. So, who would send something that he couldn't read?

"Daelin, I can't read and nobody should know I'm here." Utu said simply, holding the letter out for Daelin to take. "If this is for me at all then it needs to be read for me."

The argonian was embarrassed at having to bother one of his bosses with this but the letter was too suspicious to leave alone and he didn't want just anyone to find out what was in it. The whole thing was worrying. Utu's mind had been swimming around in circles, trying to figure out something that could bring him to the attention of somebody who wrote letters. He just couldn't think of anything. His hands were still but his tail had a tension in its movements that betrayed how disquieted he was by this.
