A hero, born and raised to be merely a soldier in mankind's fight against the monster race, had finally done his duty. He had slain the Demon Lord and brought peace to the world.
However, now that he was no longer needed, he soon realized that he was an outcast who could not belong with the rest of human society. The rest of his party, the comrades that had aided him in his quest, all went on with the lives that they had before they were called to help him. And the king that had taken him in and forced him to train from even when he was a toddler only gave him a mere bag of gold coins before telling him to leave. It was clear that the high society of the kingdom didn't want him around either.
And so he became a traveler. His father and mother already perished, and he had no other known relatives that would take him in. He could ask for his comrades to take him in, but he didn't feel right doing so. The warrior and the cleric were getting married, while the mage always preferred solitude, even when they were together.
A year then passed, yet he still hadn't found his new calling in this new world of peace.
The Goddess, who used to come to him in his dreams, had never communicated with him after he did his duty, even when he begged to Her for Her guidance.
In the end, his depression overcame him.
He decided to end his own life.
And this is where your character comes in. You would find him collapsed on the wilderness with a terrible wound on his body. He had tried to kill himself by falling down a cliff, yet his supernatural durability prevented said fall in actually killing him. You will nurse him back to health and then restore his spirit. Give him a new purpose in life.
