He gave a small, miffed grimace at Jack's urgings. They were keeping pace just fine, weren't they? It wasn't as though talking and walking were mutually exclusive. They'd all had a bit of a rough time, tit wasn't like anyone was getting left behind.

Oh, there she is. he thought, as she silently crept up into the thick of them all. His eyes slightly widened, a little surprised--that was actually really sneaky! He hadn't even noticed her until just before she'd spoken up!
That did beg the question though...
His head tilted a bit in befuddled contemplation.
Why didn't she try to be that stealthy when we were on the mission?
Nonetheless, everything was all said and done, and everyone was here again.

"Don't worry about it." he said with a reassuring smile. "This isn't the first hoodie I've ruined sticking my nose into funny business. I'm fine, see?" He accompanied the statement with a gentle pat on the back, and an impromptu display of charred-off sleeve yet decidedly un-charred arm.
"It's not your fault, anyway. Your eyes were lying to you, right? None of us knew that was gonna happen. You don't need to beat yourself up over something you didn't know about, y'know?"
If that were the norm, he'd be in a much different place right now, and probably would never have gotten anything done with his life. Seriously though, the better thing to do was learn and move on. Couldn't just wallow in negativity.

He pulled her hood back down, dialing the grin up to eleven.
"Besides, you were pretty smart back there to come up with a way out of it so fast. Never even crossed my mind."
Oh.
So that's where she's at.

Instead, he spent the short walk back in a comfortable, tired silence, idly examining his bared arm and lamenting the loss of the jacket's sleeve.
Still, though, better a sleeve than my arm. That Byakko is one heck of a weapon...
He glanced over to Ciel, trying to read her for a moment and not doing an exemplary job, before looking back to the forearm. Perfectly healed, the only sign of ever being damaged in the first place lying in his memory.
While it wasn't a flashy or particularly offensively powerful semblance, it was hard to deny that his was useful.
Now if only it made things hurt less...
