Hot dogs are already cooked. Might as well just sear them to add flavor.

If you take college seriously, it opens doors. Harvard and Hopkins makes it easier, but you can do well anywhere.

Prefer to brainstorm on Discord for that reason.

Former Unit: (include rank, if applicable)

Skillset:
Talents one has either naturally or through education or training of some sort.

History:
Explain how your character got there -- no 'the story will come out in RP' lines, please -- I want a feel for where your character is coming from. Feel free to work up names and places and so forth. Be sure to mention arrests or feuds and debts and the such.

An idea of how the character thinks and so forth; should be linked to the history.

TL;DR Summary

- Discord Chat for questions and brainstorming. (web-based, anonymous.)
- Science Fiction Setting
- It starts out with modern technology and moves into more alien tech.
- Characters are mercenaries that signed onto a newly-formed PMC called Centurion Strategic Services; the client is assumed to be a foreign entity.
- Client is actually an alien species that needs someone who can fight the wars for them.
- While Centurion fields vehicles and artillery and so forth, this is about the infantry. So the characters are the ones scraping alien fluid off their boots.
- I don't need a huge post out of people, but I find formatting, grammar/spellcheck important. This includes paying attention to capitalization, spaces between paragraphs and basic formatting for readability. I am not a douche, I make typos like anyone else, but I do make an effort and I want everyone else to do the same.
- In the interests of moving the story along, we need to agree to not get overly technical on the military aspect, particularly as the technology and tactics will change appreciably as the storyline progresses.

Although playing a kurd from the YPJ would be a cool and unique character...

Doable concept. Though the YPJ is heavy on combat experience and light on training. So she'd be one of those recruits getting the most out of the training program run in French Guyana. Everything from, "This is how you shoot" to "refresher advanced underwater demolitions."

@HeySeussSo I'm thinking a Spetsnaz, likely forced into retirement due to political entanglements, signed on with the current PMC after having an old friend smuggle his gear out to him.

Honestly, the plot is such that the Grathik are not issuing human gear. They're manufacturing familiar items with much higher/different performance/tolerances using their materials to ease their mercs into more powerful weaponry. So that AK-74 would be firing the same caliber round and have similar handling characteristics, but the materials used to make it set it as a class apart. They are using human schematics as a guideline, to keep operation and maintenance familiar, but otherwise, improvement across the board.

Anyway, they're also sort of standardizing a lot of the stuff for ease of logistics. It can't be a bunch of dudes running around with their nation's own gear, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Some Russian gear is getting added to the mix, but the list of equipment is generally based on considerations of performance and familiarity to their recruitment pool.
I'm thinking of making a Finnish soldier. If nothing else it will force people to contemplate the word Erikoisjääkärit.

That's totally fine. Centurion can afford to be picky and grab from all pots at their payrates. They'll even train the talent in French Guyana...since they have enough trainers on hand from units like US Army Special Forces and the Israeli Sayeret Matkal (or Shayetet-13), which means that anyone that needs a type of training will be able to acquire it.
I'm poking my head here to see what I can do with this, been struggling a bit to make characters though, so I dunno.

Understood. We all understand creativity can come and go. If you get a sheet in, awesome.

Seeing the motif on Soviets, I do have a thought or two.We aren't there yet anyway, but I think a character with a GRU Spetsnaz or background in other units of that nature (Alfa/Vympel) would be interesting. No one's ever taken on Russians in the previous incarnation of this RP, and that's despite some really interesting stuff they've done in the Chechen, Georgian and Ukrainian conflicts. Disagree as we might as a nation, there's a lot of operational experience there.

I'll be bringing an Israeli to the table, because I'm a big fan of making it very international.
I have a response started for the SpecForces line of this that will tie into Starfighters, but I want to wait on Naril before I hit another post. I can modify the whole thing according to whatever goes on there.

But basically, SpecForces will probably be stretched to capacity once they are in the powerplant room/engineering and with a detachment in the starfighter bridge. They need to get their third detachment to reinforce one or the other once the hangar is secured by the Infantry.
@vietmyke Got that Gideon piece we talked about in the collab. Lemme know if you need any further material. I'm just glad I finally got this pushed out.
Sounds good. As an aside, I am completely fine with female combat troops as characters. This is sci-fi and women are serving in combat roles currently, so ladies feel free to join.

Also, I imagine Gunther will be along as the week starts.

@Gunther
I just want to throw in that I love Robert Howard, Conan and low fantasy. I would not be doing this justice because I feel like I shouldn't join RP's until I finish all the IC posts I owe, but I wanted to drop a high five to the GM for initiating this.
