Biography: Reggie was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. His mother was a Muggle, originally from Melbourne. His father was a British wizard employed by the Department of International Magical Cooperation; Mr. Cross was working abroad at the time, serving as a British ambassador to the Australian magical government. The revelation that her lover was a Wizard was shocking, but not a downer to the future Mrs. Cross, the pair's relationship flourished to the point of marriage, after which Reggie was born. However, when his father was called back to Britain on a promotion offer, Reggie's mother was unable to uproot herself, and the pair maintained a long-distance relationship, offset by Reggie's father being able to simply Apparate to Sydney.
The situation wasn't ideal, but the pair made it work.
Reggie spent his earliest years with his mother in Australia, affording his father the time to acclimate to his new position. He would travel to London to see his father over the holidays and a bit during the summer.
When it became clear that Reginald was gifted with magic like his father, his life changed. He moved to live with his father full time, both parents agreeing it was best for him to be closer to the magical side of the family. As he neared his 11th birthday, the owl arrived, inviting him to attend his father's old school of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. He arrived his first night and was sorted into Hufflepuff house ("That's your mother's genes at work for sure," his father, a true Gryffindor exclaimed happily in a letter). The eleven-year-old Reginald made waves immediately, particularly as a lively, friendly, and dedicated individual who was typically the life of any party.
Academically, he held his own in all of his core subjects. Charms was where he tended to excel in this regard.
Yet it was in his first flying lesson that it became apparent that he would find himself most at home upon a broomstick. Flying came naturally to him, and as a first year, he was eyed by his house’s Quidditch captain and invited to try out for the team in his second year. He would take up the offer, and was practically a shoe-in onto a relatively young squad as a Chaser. Reggie’s performance on the Quidditch pitch became his most talked-of quality around the school, especially amongst his fellow Hufflepuffs. During his tenure he notched several house and school records. He retains his status as having the record for most points scored as a rookie player; for a time, he also held a record for most career points scored in the school, though he’s since been surpassed in that, though he remains the record-holder within his former house.
In his 7th year he was made Captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch squad. During this stretch he became something of an innovator. Taking influence from Muggle sports such as Football (Soccer), Gridiron Football, and Rugby, he drilled his squad into a defensive powerhouse that effectively limited their rival teams in points allowed. He further experimented by implementing a 2nd string team, who, during practice, were tasked with simulating the play style of Hufflepuff’s next opponent in scrimmage games to better prepare his squad for the coming games.
Among his notable matches as a captain was a game against Gryffindor in which his game plan involved him functioning similarly to a gridiron quarterback, pulling off impressive passes that set up his fellow chasers to score goals, a match against Slytherin in which his aggressive flying was likened by Muggle-born and Half-Blood students as similar to a Rugby player. The cream of the crop, however, was a shutout victory for the Quidditch cup in that year.
Following his time at Hogwarts, Reggie tried out for a slew of professional teams in the UK, but came up short. In part, it seemed that the teams were hesitant to incorporate his style of play into their own game plans, opting to take players that better meshed with their own styles. This prompted Reggie to return to his home in Australia, where he began a successful Quidditch career in Sydney. His career would flourish, seeing him earn a spot on the Australian National Team, and an appearance in the Quidditch World Cup.
It wouldn’t be long before a unique opportunity presented itself: a position at his alma mater, Hogwarts. Reggie wasted no time in applying for the opening as Flying Instructor, and chief Quidditch Referee. He heard back just as quickly, notified that his application had been accepted. He swiftly packed his belongings and relocated once more, returning to Britain, and taking up residence at his former school to begin the next chapter of his career.
Favorite Hogwarts Memory: The Three Peat. During Reggie's 5th-7th years, he and his fellow Hufflepuff Quidditch players cemented themselves in their house's lore with a dominant streak on the pitch. The team notched an impressive three year run of Quidditch Cup victories, with their last one in Reggie's time being a shutout victory.
