I'm rewriting history for mine, but am close to wrapping up.

A question for my beloved guild colleagues

I'm glad @Odin posted, as I think his insight is crucial to this discussion.

While I think in principle what @Inkarnate,@Lady Amalthea, and @NuttsnBolts said is probably applicable to most instances, I think that there are threads where it is far from necessary. I think Odin's example was a good one, and I think further extrapolating from there, roleplays with significant amount of unscripted combat are definitely an 'exception' to the 'rules'. Other categories could include threads that are run partially as games - I would have zero expectation, or requirement, of any of my players to read every other player's capture posts for when they went to hunt wild creatures in my Pokemon-esque RP. Especially true on thread types with expansive player bases where some characters may never interact and we have interactions that are done specifically for singular characters to occupy themselves while they wait for other things to move along elsewhere. The context in which certain posts happens is important.

Definitely probably a more of 'you probably should be reading all the posts on most threads, and most of the posts on all threads' (I'm sort of proud-ish of this line) versus some rigid you must do something in all instances.

Also, definitely not in agreement with telling people to stop roleplaying. Just saying.

EDIT: One more thing, I also think some of the instances where there is something called useful ignorance where true lack of knowledge can create a thoroughly enjoyable, organic (and gluten free), non-contrived interaction. I've had this happen arising from people missing posts where another character was defeated or acquired some powerful artifact (in a game) where it spawned some of the most interesting character conversations I've ever had.

Yes, there is a line where the ignorance is burdensome, but I've had very few instances where that has been a problem in a thread. That type of ignorance is obvious though because the ones that are in that category are generally apparent at the beginning because they also don't tend to read the introduction...

【Physical Description】
Song Lin is a thin framed girl. Barely above five feet, she struggles to do more than get lost in a crowd. She has a soft, violet colored eye and a skin tone on the pale side, giving her a bit of a haunting look. She has dark colored hair which Song Qiao puts in a variety of braids, with the untied length just at her shoulders.

Song Qiao has a starkly different appearance from her companion with a large, imposing frame. While she only stands six feet and a few to spare, Qiao's body naturally seems to hold itself broadly. She has much sharper features than Lin, with a higher cheekbone which often gives her a look of continued judgment or displeasure to those she meets. Like Lin, she has dark colored hair, but has a deep bronze color to her skin, coupled with dark eyes that are often described by other's as soulless.

【Personality】
Song Lin is a reserved young woman, a product of her inability to experience the world like most others her age and the stature of her family. She has an inherent kindness and almost psychic like empathy that allows her to easily engage with other people, providing they are willing to tolerate her slightly rigid behaviors.

Song Qiao is reserved in a different fashion and solely a product of her own restraint and dedication to the Song family. While she has a sense of honor, her sense of duty far outweighs it, which gives her enough leeway to easily cross into morally grey zones should her ward need her to do so for her protection. She, like Lin, is very capable of engaging with people, but from a different perspective due to her involvement with the Songs.

【History】
Song Lin is the only daughter of the wealthy Song family. She was born with high expectations for her aptitude, her family having made significant amounts through various ventures throughout the years. And from the early start, she looked like she would meet those expectations. She excelled constantly - top of her classes in every year and constantly pushing for more. However, at seven her struggles began as her vision began to fail. Consumed with fear, she hid the early stages of her disease from her family. The family's Espeon, as well as her own Eevee, helped with Lin's charade by moving furniture, or even guiding Lin herself, around obstacles in the house.

After a year, Lin's sight was too bad for just the Espeon to get her by. She spent a year in constant care of someone as she was shuffled between medical facility to medical facility to find a solution. Despite throwing significant money at Lin's issue, they were unable to restore, or even halt, the loss of her sight. By fourteen, she had lost all of her sight. Lin's fears of failure or losing the love and approval of her family were unrealized. It was then she realized that the pressure had largely been from herself and she felt freer than she had been.

Despite her setback, she continued to do well, but on her own terms and without the fear of failure.

Qiao's involvement with the Song family began when Lin was four years old, at which time she was hired as a full time staff to guard young Lin. Qiao met the Song family when Qiao's father was selling a few art pieces he had managed to acquire to the Songs. When the Songs met Qiao she was already an imposing woman, having served as her father's security for many years due to her ability to intimidate some of their more problematic clients out of their store by merely staring them down. Of course, Qiao's father had spent time serving in the KMN and the KSS and taught Qiao many of the skills he had learned. In fact, he had been the intention for Qiao to serve within the KMN herself. However, Qiao's father knew the opportunities that would be afforded his daughter by working for the Songs.

Of the years, especially as Lin's health began to fail, Qiao became a more important part of the family. While Lin would still be involved, the Songs knew that Qiao would potentially be needed by Lin her entire life, which meant that Qiao needed to be familiar with the family's business. What was not expected by the Songs was how adeptly Qiao would insert herself in the the various business holdings. Knowing that Lin was their only heir and that it could be a threat to their status, they adopted Qiao and named her heir, with specific conditions that Lin be given free access to the family resources when she came of age - showing just how much confidence they had in Qiao and how much she had treated Lin like a sister, taking on a role beyond that of just a bodyguard.

Realizing that she was free to make her own mark in the world, Lin persuaded her parents to allow her to take the trainer exam on the condition that Qiao come along with her. After significant debate on the prudence of the idea, they eventually relented with assurances from Qiao and Lin's Eevee that they would take care of her.

Lin's exams were a mixed bag. She did well on the more academic portions of the exams but struggled to complete many of the physical challenges. One of the proctors almost convinced the others to fail Lin due to 'risks a foolish girl couldn't understand' but relented when Qiao started him down.

As assurance, the Songs purchased a Vulpix from a breeder for Qiao to have with her.



【Abilities and Special Traits】

Qiao is well trained in close combat and standard weaponry, who also taught Lin the basics of defending herself as she refused to treat her as less than capable.

Lin is smart and almost psychic like with her empathy. She has in depth knowledge of plants and their uses as remedies.

Qiao's weaponry varies depending on the environment, but she usually has at least a knife on her, if not a longer blade.

Would it be possible to have two characters potentially? Running through some ideas and there would be a set up that required two characters.

Kage Meeting - Prior to Opening Ceremony

Ayameko waved her hand as a point to end the discussion, "There are many details to work out, but they can be done in time. I just wanted to ensure that we were in agreement this could be a worthwhile pursuit."

It was then there was a knock at the door.

"Enter," Kyoko replied.

Ayameko was surprised that there was an interruption. As the doors open, Ichigaya Norio was revealed. He strode confidently to an empty seat at the table, but opted to stand behind it, resting his arms on the back.

"Greetings great leaders," he bowed slightly to them, "I am Norio and I've come a long way to speak with you. I lead a group of island nations in the far south and I wished to speak with all three of you, as you have time privately, on two fronts. The first, to discuss opening trade relationships with each of your nations and the second to discuss petition admittance this very table. I do not hold myself in the same statuses as any of you, but I do lead my people and I feel that as we develop further trade relationships my involvement will make sense. I would abstain from any voting, but would merely like the capacity to have input."

Ayameko nodded politely. Norio's goals aligned in principles with her own - a deepening of their global relationships. While he was definitely young, she could respect his goals and the charisma with which he delivered them on.

"Norio," Ayameko spoke, "You have indeed come a long way. While I cannot speak for the rest of the leaders, I would be supportive of opening dialogue to examining those situations in private with the other leaders following this meeting. As for trade, I would be happy to sit with you upon conclusion of this meeting and begin that negotiation, should none of the other Kage need my time for more urgent pressing matters."

Norio nodded, "Thank you Lady Ayameko, the Shima Renmai is happy to work with you. You can find me alone at the inn closest to the exam facility."

"Alone?" Ayameko queried, "You came all this way on your own?"

"Well," Norio paused, "I have a few members from my nation on board the ship at the dock, but essentially yes."

While it was peacetime, Ayameko was not having that response, "Shoyū," she called, followed by, "Shiryō." Both shinobi had been stationed close by and were there within a moment, "I am assigning you as guards to this man."

Norio nodded, shaking her hand as customary with his culture, "Thank you Lady Ayameko. While I would like to kindly refuse your offer, I feel this would be a good way to end the nagging of my assistant who has spent the last few weeks scolding me for not bringing a sufficient guard contingent along. I know none you know much about my lands, but we lack much of the military prowess of your countries, so such resources are in short supply. However, I would like to note for any record that we can be quite fearsome on the sea."

He gave a large smile at conclusion of his remarks before turning to both of his new guards and beginning to introduce himself.

It was at that moment the first blast ripped through the wall near Ayameko, throwing the Kage to the side as the sphere of energy exploded outwards. As she was thrown she called to Kei to create a barrier, managing to right herself and pivot towards the attack point near the Tsuchikage. However, before Kei could manifest a barrier, the second blast had already entered the meeting room, engulfing the Tsuchikage and Ayameko in an inferno as the building began to come down on the Kage. Vision was quickly lost of the two kage.

The third blast on the meeting area was partially blocked by a barrier from Kei, but it was then they could see the source of the attack - from the area of the shrine was a hulking corporeal beast. While it was clearly still bound in some fashion to the shrine, it had begun to break free and was launching an attack on those that had imprisoned it so many years ago. With the damage from its attacks mitigated by Kei's barriers, it turned to more helpless targets, launching hundreds of explosive fireballs at the exam grounds and surrounding area, all in the span of seconds. Even with a surplus of skilled shinobi in a singular area, the surprise attack in such a quantity would devastate the area around the chuunin exams, especially with two Kage buried in rubble and others likely wounded.

"Ayameko!" Shien shouted, but there was no response. Realizing she was now the de facto leader, she summoned the shinobi she knew she had to begin a rescue effort. Io had already begun to mount a counter assault on the beast at his own discretion, marking the distance sky around it with weapon's seals, but it quickly vanished, seemingly yanked back into its prison before it could continue its carnage.

Shadan quickly appeared outside the ruined facilities that the Kage had been meeting in. Shiori, Io, Shien, and Kei had evacuated at the beginning of the assault. Shien informed the towering shinobi that Ayameko was likely trapped within the confines of the the rubble, along with the Tsuchikage. It only took the large man a second to live a large portion of the roof off of the area the Sankage had once been, revealing the severely wounded body of the Tsuchikage. The Sankage was nowhere to be found.

Norio was surprised to be alive. It was only by virtue of the guards Ayameko had assigned him just moments before the attack. Both had shoved him back, allowing all three to survive with only minor injuries. He was a bit shaken up, but had managed to keep most of his wits about him as a medical team arrived to begin treating the wounded. After he was treated, profusely thanking the medical staff being led by Shiō, he insisted on helping search for survivors as gratitude.

What was clear from the situation was there would be dead and given what had happened, the future held more.

I'm mad that Dark Fantasy is a niche market. seriously I'm all for the light-hearted and jokes all around fantasy stories but I enjoy my despair and whatnot. *sips tea*

<--- has not wrote anything 'happy' for quite some time. Even when there is humor in my stories, they have a lot of underlying darkness.

But I tend not to do traditional fantasy. If I do I shall let you know.

Creativity

A lot of it is phases both with yourself and with the guild. It is a good time when there is nothing interesting you to take a stab at running something yourself. That is what I tend to do.
