"That's a good question," answered Shiranui, "If he's not there, we can find him back at Iki Town" He figured the local Kahuna would know more than anyone else on the island about converting the Sparkling Stones into functional Z-Rings.
"Not quite yet," Shiranui countered, showing Liam his gunmetal grey Sparkling Stone, "We need to get these Stones made into Z-Rings first."
"Thank you Sashia," replied Shiranui, committing the dance to memory for when Okami evolves.
Jen and Shiranui did.
With Okami's help, Shiranui made his way back out of the trial site; all the while musing over how he would get his Sparkling Stone converted into a Z-Ring and thinking about doing some research on Z-Moves once he gets to a Pokémon Centre.
Shiranui entered the next cave and found a cavern where a large Alolan Raticate stood its ground with an Alolan Rattata at its side. "Ashika, I choose you!" He sent his Popplio out and the battle was on. "Ashika, start with Icy Wind!" Rattata opened with a Quick Attack, blindsiding Ashika and Raticate started with Focus Energy, improving its odds of a critical hit. Ashika blew a gust of frigid air that dealt a lot of damage to Rattata and a decent amount to Raticate whilst slowing them down. "Ashika, use Disarming Voice!" The loss of speed was enough for Ashika to get her move in first. The Popplio let out a charming cry that did emotional damage to her opponents. Rattata was knocked out and Raticate suffered major damage. Raticate charged at Ashika with its fangs ready for a Bite attack and bit down on Ashika's tail for a decent amount of damage.

Raticate called for help and a second Alolan Rattata showed up. "Note to self: take out the Totem Pokémon first," said Shiranui to himself, "Ashika, Disarming Voice once more!" Rattata used Pursuit and left Ashika on her last legs so to speak. The Popplio got up and let off a bright glow, growing in size. The glow subsided to reveal a Brionne and Shiranui scanned his new-look friend. "Brionne, the Pop Star Pokémon and the evolved form of Popplio. It cares deeply for its companions. When its Trainer is feeling down, it performs a cheery dance to try and help." Ashika let off a cry more dulcet than before and both opponents were knocked out.

Shiranui gave the three KO'd Pokémon a Sitrus Berry each and the first Rattata scampered off to rest up and the second Rattata and Totem Raticate both went off to get something. After a while, the Alolan Rattata that joined the battle returned with a Lycanium Z and the Totem Alolan Raticate returned with a gunmetal grey Sparkling Stone. Shiranui received these items and bode the two Dark types a parting Alola.

On his way back to the entrance, Shiranui pondered on why his new Z Crystal was shaped differently to the few others he had seen.
Shiranui saw a cave entrance ahead, but before he could get to it, an Alolan Persian intercepted him and was poised for a battle. He sent Ikari out and Persian opened with a Fake Out. Ikari flinched, allowing Persian to get in another move. Persian charged in to deliver a Bite, but Ikari was charging straight at Persian with her head lowered. The shiny Bagon was using Headbutt and when their attacks connected, Ikari struck Persian right in the mouth while getting bitten at the same time. Needless to say, Ikari's move dealt a critical blow and thanks to her Sheer Force ability, the Persian was knocked out in one hit.

Shiranui gave Persian a Sitrus Berry and stuck around patiently while Persian carefully ate the berry due to its mouth still hurting. "You should lay off the Bite attacks until your mouth feels better," he advised. Persian reluctantly agreed and left to wait in ambush for the next trainer while Shiranui went on to the cave where he figured the local totem Pokémon waited.
Shiranui heard Jen's call and gave the Alolan Rattata a Sitrus Berry. The first henchman of the local totem was grateful for the healing berry and scampered off to intercede with Jen.

Okami started growling as she detected a smell of sulphur. "Okami, did you smell our second opponent?" Shiranui asked. His Rockruff pointed like a hunting dog and at that moment a Houndour leapt out and blocked their path. "A Houndour, eh? This will be a cinch for you, Okami," said Shiranui as Okami took a battle position. The battle was a little quicker as Okami scored a critical hit with a Rock Throw and knocked Houndour out.

Shiranui gave Houndour a couple of Sitrus Berries and gave it a "thank you" before moving on.
Thanks to Okami's tracking, Shiranui made it out of the cave. The first of the totem's henchmen jumped out and blocked Shiranui's way. He was face to face with an Alolan Rattata and in response, Shiranui pulled out his Pokédex and scanned it. "Rattata: Alola Form, the Mouse Pokémon. When the sun goes down, it becomes active. It runs around town on a chase for good food for the boss of its nest—Raticate." Okami leaped into action and the battle was on. Through a strategic use of Sand Attack, Rock Throw and Tackle, Okami managed to defeat the Alolan Rattata while avoiding her opponent's attacks.
Shiranui saw a Deino charging at him. "Bakeru, use Play Rough!" The Mimikyu jumped off of his trainer's shoulder and started roughhousing with the Deino. After the dust settled Bakeru stood tall on a fainted Zorua. "Great job, Bakeru," Shiranui praised, picking up his Mimikyu. He noted to himself to let Liam know that Zorua could be found at Alola.
