Shiranui went with Ashika when he faced the Hydreigon his opponent sent out. In spite of its type disadvantage, Hydreigon was holding its own through its Hyper Voice, but was no match for the Primarina's Twinkle Tackle. Once the dust settled from Ashika's Z-Move, the Primarina was singing a victorious tune atop the fallen Hydreigon.

Shiranui saw the Galarian Weezing and checked it out on his Pokédex. "Weezing: Galar Form, the Poison Gas Pokémon. This Pokémon consumes particles that contaminate the air. Instead of leaving droppings, it expels clean air."

Shiranui's opponent sent out an Eldegoss and he responded with Nayamashii. One Flame Charge-channelled Inferno Overdrive compliments of Shiranui's Salazzle was all it took to knock Eldegoss out.
Shiranui saw the battle and noticed Zelina's eyes and the purple blaze pattern Hibiki had. The message he got from Mike corroborated his suspicion. "Looks like the Salazzle experiment showed herself," he mused to himself, confident she would be no match for Saisei based on type. He checked his Pokédex—which had been updated—on Selina's opponent's Pokémon.

Shiranui was glad to see no shenanigans from Jessie and Meowth during Jimothy's battle though he couldn't help but chuckle when he saw Jessie's Wobbuffet stand by Jimothy's side. When it came to his next battle, Shiranui's opponent sent out an Arbok while he sent out his Metagross. The battle was swift as one Zen Headbutt from a mega-evolved Yuugou was all it took to knock the snake out.
Shiranui saw his match was the one right after Jimothy's battle, giving him the opportunity to watch Team Rocket from the shadows during said battle.
Before Selina had her battle Shiranui got the penultimate match, dealing with a Machamp, a Toucannon and a Whimsicott. A Blizzard took out the Whimsicott and a Surf rendered Toucannon grounded and out. A Moonblast was what it took to KO Machamp, earning Shiranui the 63rd spot.
"Understood," Shiranui acknowledged, looking around.
Shiranui saw Liam's battle and found out the battles for the prelims were a four-way free-for-all.
Shiranui was assigned 63-B and was partly thankful that he would watch some of the preceding battles.
