Bio

Hey all, JB here.

I'm a DM for a large number of games here on RPG, as well as a player in several others. Many of the games I run are overly complex, or they involve Dungeons and Dragons (which is also overly complex!).

I work 40+ hours a week, and am the proud father of two tiny terrors named Chibi and Chibette and married to my beautiful Wifey. As such, I am quite busy more often than not. I typically write 2-5 paragraphs per reply and try to maintain an excellent level of grammar. If you noticed me glancing at your profile, I probably was looking to see if you would be a good match for my RPing style. Even if I didn't send a PM to you, feel free to send one back!

I enjoy 1x1 RPs and small groups. I'm fond of medieval, steampunk, and futuristic settings, and I'll jump into romance, adventure, and slice of life RPs fairly quickly, although supernatural (vampires, werewolves, etc) RPs get old for me pretty quickly. If you're looking for an RP partner and I've glanced at your profile, then I'm most likely willing to give it a shot, but decided against PMing you because I'm actually kinda shy. But I'm always looking for a new friend!

Please feel free to say hi at any time!

The journey to Sommertriss was largely uneventful once the party had gotten underway, despite the dragonborn's distrust of those who were once slavers. Drajhan kept his promise to Nai-ni-ren, of course, finding the daughter and sending her home with the firbolg envoy. He had wished to unite the pair personally, but time did not permit, and his vow did not require more than finding and delivering the child. The firbolgs could carry out the actual transportation itself. Of course, the rescue could not have been completed without Drajhan's particular skills, or at least not in such a well-rehearsed manner. Indeed, most others would have made a bumbling and bloody mess of the whole affair.

Draj was more than happy to rid himself of the slavers, and was tempted to follow Harriet on her journey despite it having almost no bearing on his personal goals. The druid could keep to his woods, and the acolyte of the Raven Queen certainly was not very fond of him. Their leaving did not cause the dragonborn any tears, but it seemed that Angela was not quite so easy to get rid of. In fact, it seemed as if she had little other motivation than following him around like a puppy. It was nearly impossible to travel to any of the town's more amorous locations with her dogging his every step. And so, when the news of this nascent cave reached Drajhan, he immediately jumped on the opportunity.

It was only when he was rather damp with fog and sore from traveling that he felt nearly ready to admit that perhaps a mistake was made. Nearly. However, these strange folk who appeared from the cavern's mouth quickly led Drajhan to conclude that he had, in fact, made a correct assumption that something was afoot with this location. Something worthy of this particular group's immediate discovery and discernment. A glance his way from his betrothed -- even after a month, it was hard for him to wrap his head around the concept -- and she let out a greeting so simplistic that it was perfect. Yes, a "hello." Why did Draj not think of doing such?

There was, of course, a small chance that these people were not friendly, but how dangerous could they be with only farming tools and wooden makeshift armor? Certainly not a match for Drajhan and his new troupe! On the other hand, half of the members of this new troupe still had yet to be run through their paces, and Draj was unsure of their techniques. That probably mattered little, however. And with Angela doing such a wondrous job with the introductions, the dragonborn decided he would allow her to work on the welcoming and introductory side of nobility. It was a part of the title that Drajhan was ever fond of, but it never hurt to share the spotlight. Once in a while. Draj stood behind Angela and to the side with his arms genially crossed and a smile on his face, proud of her taking the lead.
The paladin's attack was more than enough to splinter the glass, sending a loud and sharp sound resonating throughout the halls. The water gushed out, drenching the nearby warlock and paladin as the gnome inside was forced free via the rushing torrent. Once she had pucked herself up off the ground, she glared at the warlock who had blocked the others from freeing her. "Took you bloody long enough!" she muttered in frustration. "But thanks. Another few hours in there, and I probably would have gone insane..."

The gnome's eyes finally left the warlock as she sized up her rescuers. "I can answer that," she replied. "The fish folk. They've been terrorizing the streets for the last few weeks. I came here to learn more, but they didn't even give me a chance to explain myself before they stuffed me in their... 'hydration chambers.' A few hours later, and in came the dwarf. If you all hadn't arrived..."

The gnome wiped some of the water away from her face, noting the hint of crimson on the back of her hand from a fresh wound caused by the glass. She grimaced at the sight, then began marching down the corridor. "Name's Eilina. I need my grimoire back, and if I'm not mistaken, the dwarf needs her armor. I saw them take her gear over there..." Eilina stopped as she reached the intersection, her hand pointing west to the collapsed tunnel. Her hand fell to her side in dejection.

"This day cannot possibly get worse."

I think our group is good for a @Crimmy reply. I believe we both posted.

So that's how they're hiding. Katia surveyed the enemies in the distance, trying to gauge their strength. From a hundred feet or more, some of the specifics were unclear, but it was likely this group of foes was even stronger than the previous one. A glance down at her allies showed Katia that they were walking unaware into a trap. Tactics be damned, there was no way in the nine hells that this tabaxi would let her friends be ambushed like that.

Katia scrambled down the side of the building she was perched on, then tapped Theodore on the shoulder. "Big group of shades, flat to the ground. They bar the entry to the Hall," she said quietly so as to not draw the shadows' attention. As quickly as she had approached, she darted away again, moving back to the high ground. The courtyard surrounding the Hall held little in the way of cover, making it an ideal defensive location and fairly difficult to infiltrate. Of course, that was likely the intentions of those who created this building. In Katia's mind, that was simply more reasons to attempt to reclaim the Hall from the shadows.

At the commotion, the gnome lifted her head. It was hard to see her expression through the thick glass, but her movements certainly became more agitated as she tried to knock on the glass with her manacled wrists. The sound was dull and quiet from the outside, but she was certainly trying to get the group's attention.

The gnome called out, but the words were so muffled that it was difficult to even make out the language she used. She seemed to be fixated on Ulor; whether it was because he was the source of the green flames that cut her off from everyone else or simply because he was closest, none could say.

As for the dwarf, she was dressed in very damp but simple clothing. There was not a scrap of armor nor a single weapon on her, nor did she have a weapon or any sort of gear in sight. It was likely from her speech that she was some sort of clergy or acolyte, but there wasn't as much as a holy symbol on her. In any case, it appeared that she had been robbed of her possessions, or that she had entered this place with little more than a robe on her.

The light from Eden brightened as dawn broke, the light falling on the Sunleth Waterscape first in deep crimsons, then fading to a normal bright and pure white. Over the course of the next hour, breakfast had been served, as had a new set of AMP-regulated manacles to shackle the PSICOM prisoner. A tour had been conducted about the camp, and the basic introductions and duties had been revealed and assigned. The next step, of course, would be for the tired fighters to get some rest. After some repose, the first task the group had would be to locate the remaining members of Maurice and Rikken's squad.

Julian had just broken up the meeting and dismissed his crew when a quiet rumbling could be felt in the grounds, as if a great beast were charging towards them. Throwing off the exhaustion of the night, Julian rushed forward to the nearest lookout point. "Rice, what is it?" the Lieutenant called out. The other man simply pointed and handed Julian a spyglass.

A form was approaching with intense speed, seemingly flying above the surface of the land and water. Flames engulfed its body, and the creature seemed to look directly into Julian's eyes, as if it could sense the soldier watching it through the spyglass. "Ready arms!" Julian cried out as he scrambled down from the lookout. He opened his mouth to call out more orders, but whatever he said was drowned out by a bestial roar from the creature.

"I am Belias the Gigas!" came the terrible proclamation. "My creation was an uncorrected error of the gods, and I rebelled in order to receive my intended role. I am the Scion of darkness and Guardian of the Holy Realm!" The form arrived and crashed down in the center of the camp, leaving a small crater in his wake. His feet were in the shape of cloven hooves, and ram's horns adorned his brow. The giant's form had four arms, one of which wielded a flaming halberd that whipped around to point at those in the party.

"Ooh, is this a fal'Cie?!" Molly cried out in excitement. Julian put his arm up to stop her from flying towards the creature.

"Many of us have already been chosen by Shemhazai," Julian cried out. "We wish no quarrel with you."

The giant was silent for a second before he crossed his arms and tilted his head heavenward, letting out an uproarious guffaw. "You wish no quarrel?!" he repeated incredulously. In a flash, the fal'Cie's halberd traced a complex pattern upon the ground, approximating the shape of the brand of the fal'Cie. Fire erupted from the brand and many of those in the camp cried out in pain, grasping their arms or other parts of their bodies as they witnessed the same vision that the party had experienced before. It was now obvious that this form was identical to one of those in the vision. "Do you see now?! The quarrel wishes you!"

Once again, the halberd whipped forward, pointing directly at Julian. "Face me, or you shall die here in obscurity!"

The battle was over almost before it had begun, the shades evaporating into mist as their blows struck true. As the ranger searched for his bolts, Katia stood pensively, keeping an eye out for danger. With the foe adapting their techniques, they would need to be smarter about their planning. Katia couldn't see why the gnome, who claimed to be a wizard, had so little intelligence to not know more about their foes. Benefit of the doubt would tell her that these tactics were new to him as well, but it still did little to ease her concerns.

"If we do not take care, we shall be ambushed at every turn," the tabaxi announced once Theodore had replaced his mask. "Silence and stealth might be wise. I shall take the high ground and hopefully see them coming ahead of time." Katia made it a point to turn to the gnome and spell out her intentions in small words, slowly and carefully and with sufficient pantomiming to ensure he understood that she would be moving along the rooftops. It would do no one any good if he were to repeat the bumbling mistake of the night before.

Katia briefly wondered whether rogues or sneaks existed in this city prior to the infestation of the shadows. Potentially they did not, judging both by Birbin's response to her earlier attempts at stealth and by the fact that few people seemed left alive in this town. Perhaps a quieter approach to the shadow problem would have left more people alive. She also felt her mind wander to what kind of heroes may have been collecting in this Hall, and how the rown must have treated them to have such a large building dedicated to their accomplishments. She also wondered why Birbin didn't simply reside in said Hall, as it was surely better reinforced than a mere tavern, and definitely safer than an extended stroll in the streets. In fact, if she had not already convinced herself of the gnome's ineptitude and inability to plan, she would have wondered if this were not some staged method of forcing unnecessary fights with the shadows.

Before she took to the rooftops, Katia approached Cesar with one of the healing elixirs that Birbin had presented her earlier. "You look like you could use this," she whispered in his ear, pressing the glass vial into his hand. "Don't go dying on me, okay?" Katia kissed the sailor lightly on his cheek and, without giving him a chance to respond, scaled the side of a nearby building and darted forward along the rooftops, dashing to the nearest intersection of streets to keep a lookout until the rest of the group caught up.

They're dead. Kimiko's mind immediately replied the mortal statement to Kaede's hopeful one. There's no way that they survived. Neither of them could summon a Persona, and we barely made it.

Perhaps, Yatsufusa replied in Kimiko's head. But you also had not summoned your true self until after the fight began. Perhaps the potential lies within them yet. They could survive still.

They're dead, and searching for them is hopeless, Kimiko insisted. Despite this determination, Kimiko still could not bring herself to contradict Kaede. The search might be beyond hope, but there was nothing else they could do. They might get lucky. They might find a way out or perhaps find another person who was stuck here. In any case, what harm would searching do?

"I saw Okazaki-san run off this way," Kimiko replied before she also began running down the hallway. "Come on, hurry!" She was well aware that Alexander had been dragged in a different direction, but there was no way they could pursue both of them without splitting up, and she saw the bugs consume him. Okazaki's recovery at least held a glimmer of hope, however minuscule it might be. Besides, if all of the enemies were as wimpy as the fiery fiends she had just fought, finding her former allies would be a walk in the park.

Caution, Princess... you have weaknesses too...
