Bio

Hey all, JB here.

I'm a DM for a large number of games here on RPG, as well as a player in several others. Many of the games I run are overly complex, or they involve Dungeons and Dragons (which is also overly complex!).

I work 40+ hours a week, and am the proud father of two tiny terrors named Chibi and Chibette and married to my beautiful Wifey. As such, I am quite busy more often than not. I typically write 2-5 paragraphs per reply and try to maintain an excellent level of grammar. If you noticed me glancing at your profile, I probably was looking to see if you would be a good match for my RPing style. Even if I didn't send a PM to you, feel free to send one back!

I enjoy 1x1 RPs and small groups. I'm fond of medieval, steampunk, and futuristic settings, and I'll jump into romance, adventure, and slice of life RPs fairly quickly, although supernatural (vampires, werewolves, etc) RPs get old for me pretty quickly. If you're looking for an RP partner and I've glanced at your profile, then I'm most likely willing to give it a shot, but decided against PMing you because I'm actually kinda shy. But I'm always looking for a new friend!

Please feel free to say hi at any time!

Bobbin isn't that drunk... yet :P
@ihinka - you're up!

The druid had been lazily sauntering along for a few seconds, unconcerned with whether the bandits escaped or not. Unlike the rest of those in the group apparently, Bobbin was fine with clearing them away and scaring them off. But this new information changed his thought process. An apparently young girl was in danger, and although Bobbin held little altruism in his heart for the common adventurer, only the truly evil would leave a child to her death or worse at the hands of bandits. He only hoped it wasn't a trap, but the druid had no time to waste to read their captive's intentions.

With a roar, the bear charged forward at full speed, dodging around the entanglement that bound the crossbowmen in place. No, Bobbin had one goal in mind now, and he would not stop until it was achieved, or he died trying. Gods, he hoped he didn't die trying. There were so many drinks he had yet to sample. As the bear lumbered forward, Bobbin focused on his combat training as best as he could, reinvigorating his mind and body... slightly. It seemed he was too distracted to truly gain much benefit from his healing yet.

"No wait!" Mila called out as the light enveloped their adversary. "Why'd you leave her alive?!" Mila cried at Rygar, fury evident on her face. "Now we won't get a chance to get our answers from her! Tmaf'rz kh la pyilw jiduilz; far zmaf vawz oyir zmy waoz vorv zylvyr oarc ao xe eaar sarp!" The tiefling devolved into Infernal cursing once again before she finally took a breath and looked back at her assumed allies, apparently calm once more.

"Right... so, she is not dead. With any luck, we have chased her away to never fight us again. I am not so hopeful, however... a mage like her is bound to have powerful and dangerous allies. Like that assassin..." Mila looked around frantically for a moment, but didn't see him. "I suppose first things should be first, eh? I am Mila, a servant of the Raven Queen and a destroyer of all those who defile the natural order, like that Archbitch. Does anyone know where we are?"

If nothing else, the intense focus of her fighting style seemed to dissipate as Mila's conversation shifted from one item to the next. Her gaze bounced between the various people that had joined her in the fight. They had seemed like valiant fighters, what little they had contributed. She couldn't blame the monk for trying to get answers; he likely didn't have lifelong access to magic like she had. Her fingers clutched at a tiny silver cage she held in her component pouch, regret still evident on her face. Further investigation revealed that one of their number was no longer moving after she had teleported closer... and in fact appeared to have turned to stone. Mila stepped forward and placed a hand on the triton's petrified features and sighed. "This magic is far beyond what I can fix. I'm sorry, but her time has come." Just then, the bright light enveloped the statue's form. "Frickin Levistus, can't I just have one moment?!"

The kraken thrashed wildly, decimating Cynthia's new allies. As the tentacles reached out for Adrevz, Cynthia gave a guttural shout and a protective spiritual barrier surrounded the druid for a brief instant as the kraken bit into her, blocking out some of the damage. Cynthia then flexed against the tentacles binding her, breaking the kraken's grasp on her. "It's not over! Keep fighting!" she shouted.

The Templar steps forward into the midst of the grappled foes, and spun its glaive in a wide arc. In fact, it seemed the entire top half of his torso spun in a 360, a whirlwind of blade cutting through every foe. Noriam, Alexis, Adrevz, Cynthia, and the kraken must make a DC 16 DEX save or take 15 slashing damage (7 on a fail). Cynthia and the Kraken fail their saves.

As the crew approached the kraken to take it down, the mighty foe lashed out, attacking all within range. Its tentacles that clung to Cynthia squeezed tightly, dealing 33 bludgeoning damage (halved to 16), while a pair of tentacles each lashed out at Noriam, Adrevz, and Alexis, all hitting. All three are grappled, and Cynthia is now restrained. Noriam takes 22 necrotic damage, Adrevz takes 23 necrotic damage, and Alexis takes 18 necrotic damage. In addition, the kraken's beak reaches out to strike Adrevz, dealing 10 slashing damage.

This fight was going downhill fast. "Hang on, everyone!" Jill called out, and with a burst of radiant light, the water around them became infused with healing energy, easing the wounds of each ally nearby for 20 HP. She then looked towards Noriam, offering a smile. "I believe in you!" she called out. "I see the light is still inside you. Grasp it, and break free!"

Marthysan | Maiko

"I believe the information I have will be useful to all of you," Marthysan replied, "and so the invitation is extended to each of your company. And half-elf, actually. Iomedae gifted me with the best of two different cultures." It seemed almost curious how unfazed he was by the mutterings of the magus to his blade, at least until Marthysan continued. "Even your black blade friend may find this information useful," he added.

By now, Maiko and Elora had rejoined with the party from their conversation with the monks. "We were just talking to some friends of your, Marthysan," Maiko announced. "From what I've heard, they call him 'Marthysan the Righteous,' and if he's planning to elaborate on what we just found out, sounds pretty important. About the sisters, right Sir Paladin?"

Marthysan nodded and motioned for the party to follow him. "There should be plenty of beds for all of us, and then some. The champion's suite is far more extravagant than I am used to. I requested a smaller room, but the Emissary wouldn't have it. Plus, as I am required for the opening and closing ceremonies as the winner of the previous tournament, I cannot exactly leave." The paladin led those who chose to follow from the noodle house through the night air to a tall building that looked large enough to hold dozens of teams. They entered the building and Marthysan led the group to a dwarf standing on a metallic platform. Once everyone was standing on the platform, the dwarf began to turn a crank, which in turn lifted the party into the air through a pulley system.

"And of course, they put the room on the top floor," Marthysan continued. "If it were not for this fine gentleman, I would have to climb the stairs. An ingenious invention." The lift soon stopped and Marthysan produced a small key with which he unlocked the door to the suite. True to his word, this room was the lap of luxury, with breathtaking views of the lagoon on one side and the city of Goka across the water on the other side, barely visible on the horizon. There were four rooms attached to a common living room by wide sliding doors made from a thin material, almost like paper. Each side room contained a pair of beds and a privacy screen, as well as a small area for bathing. To say it was too much for one man would be an understatement.

"Right. Here we are," Marthysan said, almost sheepishly. "Please make yourselves comfortable. I am free to answer whatever questions you may have."
As the party scoured the area and healed up their companion elf, Eilina had noticed the spellbook among his belongings as she helped gather them together. "A wizard, hm?" she asked, holding out the book for him to accrpt. "Explains why you got cut down so fast. You did well to last as long as you did without your focus. We should swap spells later, if you feel up to it."

The discoveries soon drew her attention away, and Eilina joined Ulor by the altar. "Look... the altar itself is clean of blood, but at the edges, there's a few spatterings. That means either this altar was placed here on top of a pol of blood, or..." Before another word left her mouth, she had drawn her dagger, lightly slicing the palm of her hand and letting droplets of blood spill onto the altar. As they landed, the crimson immediately faded, absorbed into the altar. "Or this ritual drank the blood, giving the life energy to the other creature. If we were even a few days later, that wyrmling may have absorbed enough power to be as strong as a dragon youth... and that would have been bad for Bourgund."

The beckoning from Yvah drew the others' attention, and as she made herself visible to the apparent prisoners, they recoiled from the closed door for a moment. One elderly human pressed forward, staring at Yvah with distrust. "Protect us, hm? We heard you fighting out there. How did a mere kurjian girl take out a dragon and a devil? Or are you working with them?!"

"Hush, Gramps," came a feminine voice from a small halfling woman. "We've had just about enough of that ungrateful attitude." She pulled the older man aside and pressed her face against the barred door. "Thank you so much. One of the guards had the keys. They left just as the fighting started. I'm so relieved that someone came to find us. I thought we were all going to die."

"We were!" retorted the older man. "That was the plan, what with them altars and sacrifices and such. Now get us out of here! My old bones can't take the dampness much longer. What are ya waiting for?!"
As Noriam swam closer, it seemed the Gearforged was ready, striking out at him as he approached. However, the glaive flew wide, missing its target before it took a fatal blow, as the last light of life flickered from its eyes.

Cynthia, a bit surprised at the fury of the kraken, still kept her attention on the weaker foe before her, but with the tentacly mass holding her down, couldn't maneuver her Levinsword well enough to land a blow. There was some other emotion in her eyes as she looked back to the others. A small amount of fear, but also determination.

The remaining Gearforged had no such issues with emotion, and it swung the glaive towards Cynthia three times, hitting with all three for 24 damage, reduced to 12 from her rage. The merfolk was starting to look rough.

Marthysan the Righteous

The bar fell to silence as the song played. Marthysan had watched this group ever since they had entered, chuckling to himself as one of their members interviewed the oni, and watching as the rest of the party interviewed others in the noodle house. He had heard his own name mentioned once or twice in the archer's interview with the group of monks. That would make introductions easier.

The promised song was beautiful, almost as appreciated by the bar as the free meal. Chung Po approached Ming at the end of the song and bowed. "I was expecting a bawdy tavern tune. Your music is a greater gift than I could have imagined. I thank you," he said quietly over the silence that hung on the air like a blanket.

That is, at least, until a stack of pans clattered to the floor in the kitchen, followed by loud cursing from Yon-Loi. Soon the conversations resumed, the music apparently forgotten by some. Marthysan approached the now-gathered group as the attention was drawn away from them. "You fought valiantly, Ming Shufen of the dhampir. I applaud your efforts and perseverance, even when you realized that the challenge was little more than an unfair flexing of muscles. Your song, I hope, humbled him."

Marthysan turned to the rest of the group and introduced himself. "I am Marthysan, a paladin of Iomedae, victor in the previous Ruby Phoenix Tournament. I have heard rumors of items that I would wish to discuss with you in private. Would this be acceptable? The suite they have offered me is far too large for just one man, and I would be willing to share my lodgings with you as well, in exchange for a promise: that you perform at your highest level and win this tournament. I believe you have the best shot of any in this house, and I aim to provide you with the advice you may need to do so."
