I also think that this is a fantastic and quite novel idea. I am interested as well but as @Marrok stated there is going to be a bit of a struggle in trying to maintain this for any lengthy period of time. However I am definitely interested still. I'm starting to picture a woman from the twenties, but I'd very much like for her to be well aware of her situation, or at least close enough to it that she is triggered fairly often and tends to be a very disruptive nuisance in the hotel.. if that can work cohesively with your end game or plot?

Annnd a quick question on how these ghosts will interact with living players and npcs. Are these ghosts able to manifest into tangible, touchable beings to the living, or are they merely specters or spirits that dissipate once stirred? If they can, a good way to explain this would be anomalies in the magnetic fields, or energy grids on the property, or some sort of spectral portal or phenomena where the spirits that are trapped inside this vortex are able to manifest or are perhaps able to perform various physical actions as well as supernatural ones likes energy focusing and moving objects telekinetically, etc..

I would also possibly be interested in running a ghost character as well as a human one. In doing so I think that would alleviate some of the problem with the sustainability issues. It would help to develop the ghost character's story and would give some stability via the duality of the pair. Possibly a very agitated ghost or apparition, and one very much alive human, who is susceptible, or sensitive to paranormal activity. There would be a substantial increase in the amount of context a player could provide.

My interest is definitely peaked. Is this going to be mainly a narrative based RP, or will there be guidelines and limitations, some sort of system for the use of abilities or anything to that extent? I usually only do advanced roleplays but currently there is a lack of content that I find any interest in. Definitely interested.

My idea seems extremely limited but I really do want to be open to all ideas from potential players. I’m taking restrictions off. Originally the restrictions were there because I didn’t want an entire hotel of humans with myself playing the Ghosts. The ghosts are completely tangible unless they are triggered and decide they don’t want to be seen. So, they can kill, have sex with humans, harm them, etc.

So essentially, the ghosts are humans who are trapped in their own sort of personal hell. They can teleport, move through walls and I wouldn’t be completely against them having other energy related Powers as well.

And are you thinking of playing like a medium of sorts? I would love that.

As I said, I want to take restrictions off, because I really want to do this idea. If need be, we can set the RP during a festival season or something to where it will be more busy (being possibly the last choice for festival goers).

Also, I’m putting this out there, I’ve been away only because my newborn son has been kinda sick and difficult. He ended up back on the hospital. I have a new computer coming and he’s well again. So, I will not be going 2 weeks without messaging or posting in the future, and hopefully, barring any emergencies, I can let you guys know when I’m gonna be gone if I take a step away.

The hotel Rami looms over the rest of the buildings around it, as if the city hasn’t figured out how to cover it up. As skyscrapers and high rise buildings swallow everything in their wake, the Rami seems to repel all growth within six blocks of its existence.

As one steps through the gold plated doors of the Rami, the long forgotten architecture of the 1920s assaults the senses. The smell of dust, cigarette smoke, old perfume, and scotch permeate the air. The drapes are gloriously tasseled and made of velvet. But all in all, the hotel is clean, if not just a tad smoke stained.

As if in costume, the residents of the hotel are dressed in various generations of clothing, from the 20s all the way to the present. They go about their day to day, and if watched closely- it’s always the same day, over and over again.

That’s the thing about the Rami. The residents? Most of the staff? The drunks at the bar? Well, most of them are dead. The hotel claims souls. It’s not clear why. It’s not clear how. It could be Satan. It could be some cosmic realm stuck in the middle of a campy 20s facade. Whatever it is, this place is not one of happiness, but one of misery.

Most of the people who check in here never leave.

Here’s what I want out of this:

I need a male ghost resident of the hotel who has broken out of his ghost loop and takes interest in a female writer who has come to the Hotel.

I need someone who is willing to play other characters within the Hotel that maybe don’t react quite as well to the writer as your main character.

The rest we can hash out via PM. I posted this in the casual section and it’s obviously not going to work as a small group, but maybe as a 1x1? We shall see.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in pitching Forth ideas for an American Horror Story style RP? Maybe we could spice it up when it starts to get boring by doing a different theme with the same faces playing different characters?

Yeah. I guess for a while I would need to play most of the ghosts in order to kinda get the understanding down for how their loops work. It would be similar to AHS ghosts, where if they haven’t found a purpose and let go of their unfinished business (even if it’s just the dinner they were going to eat the day they were killed) they fall into a loop of whatever emotion or activity they were doing.

For the reasons stated above that I agree with, if we wanted to go ahead, everyone could play a human. And I will try to facilitate the ghosts for a while.

Majority of the people are ghosts.

I would like to review and approve all humans

The ghosts can range anywhere from the 1920s to present and since the hotel has never been shut down, you can pick any time.

Most ghosts are in a loop, repeating the same day over and over. However, little changes can Jar their memories. So, talking to someone new can make them understand something different, but when the clock hits their death time, they start their loop over. Feel free to explore the idea of a character learning of their loop and basically dedicating a day to setting reminders or something.

However, know that becoming aware of the loop can cause the ghosts to become vengeful in their obsession to move forward. This can cause them to lash out, or even look to harm humans out of jealousy.

The staff seems to be the only ones not in a loop. Feel free to play a staff member. The staff has one rule for the guests: be mindful of other guests. The hotel is getting a little too crowded.

I am probably going to play three characters of my own. If you’re interested in joining, I would like at least 5 people on board before I create the thread.

@TheUnknowable Since he asked to speak to a guardian, you could just have him walk up and join their conversation. Maybe an NPC could have guided him to Yomi on the side steps. :) then we could interact a little better with him.

The only reason I didn't was to make sure he was talking to us and not to a random NPC before I had someone recognize he had showed up.
