No offense intended. But there's a sweet spot on the sliding scale of realism, and most of the interest checks I usually see skew too far to the realism end for me.

Can't describe how quickly I go from excited to sad when a mecha premise turns out to be realism wankery.

All things considered, this really wasn't shaping up to be Ben's day. A hell of a brawl first period, and even though he didn't lose it, he came out of it feeling like he'd been put through a meat grinder. Headache was mostly gone, but he was still running at spectacularly low Aura. He'd popped both reserves, which meant both batteries were sucking at his slowly replenishing levels like damned camels at an oasis. He wasn't even in the green, he was hovering in the high oranges. And his batteries had what, ten percent each? Even if he popped both that second he'd barely be over his usual supply. Add that to the chaos at the end of Math, and now he had to fight a Megalodeus. In water.

This is a terrible idea, Ben. BASL's leader reminded himself even as, to no one's surprise, he started unbuckling the additional pieces of armor he wore over his clothes. And from there, he ditched most of his heavier clothing, leaving behind enough to preserve modesty without weighing him down. He took a second to tuck his gear into a locker, then stepped back out onto the poolside ground next to Sangue. He was lucky enough to have a teammate in the class, but he'd realized something very quickly; Sangue's claw was going to make it very hard for her to swim, let alone take effective action underwater. The thought had been occupying the back of his mind while he changed, along with his own weapons underwater. Caletfwlch was going to be next to useless, he would want to stick to his tonfa. Their shotguns wouldn't be very effective underwater, but the recoil would still help him move a hell of a lot faster than if he had to stick to swimming. Deinamig would do the same in a pinch.

But...

"It might be best if you stuck to those pads, Sangue." He commented, gesturing towards the pads floating on the water. "Your claw can probably get one of us out of there fast, if it's going to catch up. But it won't help you out underwater."

Ben gave an apologetic look before he flipped his tonfa to a reverse grip. Slashing would be pointless, and this way he could boost speed with the shotguns. "No offense. You just might be better suited for support this go round."

"Careful, wouldn't want to hype them past what they are." Justin quipped and continued down the hall, following the increasingly intense scent of all things breakfast. Eggs, bacon, coffee, and yes, the underlying scent of cinnamon. He had to admit that the smell was fantastic. He hadn't been too hungry before but now he could definitely feel hunger lurking at the edges of his mind. A cinnamon bun and a cup of coffee really did sound appealing. "But with how good they smell, I don't think you were exaggerating. Who knows, maybe they did invent a little bit of culinary magic for them."

The investigator grinned, turning off of the main hall and into the cafeteria. It had an efficient layout; food to the right, stations spaced far enough to avoid too many traffic jams, and seating off to the left. True to form, Justin filled a mug of coffee as he walked by the machine and sipped it as he surveyed the rest of his options. Cinnamon bun, definitely. Probably some eggs and bacon. Maybe a glass of orange juice. Pancakes were tempting, but he was already having plenty of sugar. Time to consult the expert.

"What else is good, Mr. Otto?" He paused to take another sip from his mug, then glance over to the other young man. "You're the resident expert. Which, come to think of it, reminds me; what does the average day here look like? Any briefings? Required meetings? I haven't seen too much structure yet. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just... Curious. Not what I would have expected."

I'd imagine that's a role play site where there isn't a separate thread for IC and OOC traffic so that used to differentiate when your posting IC and when you're talking to the other roleplayers.

Incorrect, actually. There are separate threads, but brief OOC information is occasionally relayed in the same post as IC information, thus necessitating the distinction. And he's completely correct; the vast majority of people there don't use headers whatsoever, and the primary game there is significantly larger than this one. And there are even fewer issues.

Bottom line, I completely agree with Nytem. I'll use a header that denotes what character I'm posting for, and other information I deem relevant, but I'm not going to go out of my way to make it painfully clear where the character I am writing for is, and who he is interacting with. Stating such in text, and stating such in a header, is exceedingly clunky. I will happily make it clear who I'm posting for in that header, because that is a perfectly reasonable request.

Spelling all information out in a header just because someone doesn't want to even skim posts isn't reasonable.
I see I missed interesting things

I actually strongly disagree with the statement of "headers make things look neat and organized", and use them to an exceedingly minimal degree with great reluctance because they're tacky, unnecessary unless you're trying to keep track of the whole game. Given the fact that they aren't standardized anyway, they just look plain jumbled.

They're not even necessary; mentions or bold texting a name point out very easily when a new character or player is being referenced in an interaction, and generally speaking, once one knows the group relevant to their posts there is no more need to try and keep track of where every single character is.

and they go against my personal sense of how i prefer to lay out my posts

So, my point is, until such a time as someone with the authority to force me to use headers the way they want me to actually does so, I will continue to offer the same information in my headers as I always have.

"Figured they wouldn't be. Haven't been here in the morning before, though, so I couldn't tell." Justin slipped through the door easily, nodding his thanks to his new-found companion as he started down the stairs. Judging by his behavior so far, the other man was a decent sort. Perpetual bedhead, by the look of it, but polite and talkative. Always a good thing. "Afternoon and evening, yes, night as well. But mornings are new. Good time to see who else is around here, too."

"I'm Justin. Good to meet you." The investigator continued, hands loosely slipped into the pockets of his pants. He descended the stairs as leisurely as he had moved through the hall, though this time he slowed a little more so as to not pull too far ahead of Otto. Holding the door had cost him a few seconds, obviously, and Justin didn't want to leave him behind. "Been here long, Mr....?"

Day 1, Morning

He had only just finished his first, and Justin already wanted another cup of coffee. Not for the caffeine so much as to have a warm drink to carry around. Tiny little thoughts like that were always flitting through the background, in and around the larger observations. Things like how long it took to get from his quarters to one of the Tower's primary arteries, a hallway that connected several of the more important locations within the building. Two minutes at a brisk walk. Three at a more leisurely one, similar to how he was moving now. Even those, however, were largely meaningless. Facts that might one day have their use, but for the moment, were just taking up space. They were just to try and entertain him a little.

He had yet to see anyone else in the hall, but he suspected that could be blamed on his timing. The early-risers were already out and about, and the later-sleepers had yet to even get out of bed. Just the right time (or wrong time, depending on your perspective) to catch the lull between the staggered groups.

Even so it didn't take too long for his path to intersect with another traveler's. A young man about his age, and by the look of him headed to about the same place. Justin gave a half grin and raised his hand in a lazy wave.

"Morning."
In case anyone was wondering, homework sucks.

Translation: I just dug my way out of a mountain of it. Going to try and get a post up tonight, but with how much energy homework took, I make no guarantees. Tomorrow at the absolute latest, however.
I've been experiencing the same thing most of the day. Online/Offline recognition was only actually fixed for me about an hour and a half ago. Microsoft might just be slow in rolling out the fix by region.
Have you tried closing and relaunching the application? It should have been rectified by now, but it might not have been if the program has been open.
I'd be happy to participate. I use Skype for communication on many of my other games as well. I'll PM you my Skype username, Merlin.
