Current I'm going to have to take a break for awhile. One of my dogs just passed; we went to bed together like we always do and when I woke up she was gone. I feel awful right now.

Had a fun birthday. Had some alligator tail for dinner, overall was pretty good for a place I hadn't been to before. Will start getting back into the groove of things soon.

Hi. If you've wound up here, you're probably wondering who I am.

You can call me Kuro, although some of you might better recognize me by one of the several other names that I have used in the past throughout the 11-ish years that I have spent on this forum. I'm a middle-twenties retail manager that is still trying to relive the glory days of their roleplay career while balancing a full-time job with an unsatiable need for overtime.

I tend to be open to most ideas when it comes to roleplay itself, be it whatever genre, group size, system, etc. That being said, I often gravitate to anything that falls in the following categories: anime, fantasy, slice of life, superhero or survival horror. If you believe that you have an idea that I might be interested in, feel free to shoot me a link; I'll get back to you as soon as I possibly can. Sometimes I forget to check my messages, so don't feel bad about pestering me again if I missed it.

I also have a discord server laying around. If we're cool, then I might be willing to a toss an invite your way.

wayward: a roleplay synopsis. |
"Fightin' Hares, let's make this year one of the best!"

You had heard the speech over and over again. It had been the same every year, even now in your senior year of high school. Despite the happy-go-lucky facade, however, you and your classmates knew the truth—Hvass sucked. Hvass wasn't a place where dreams were born, it was a place where dreams went to die.

Everyone wanted out; to find somewhere they could make it big. Nonetheless, Hvass seemingly had no plans to let go of the hold it had on people. It was a trash town, with trash people and trash culture, and you were bound to die here just like everyone else that came before you.

At least all you had left was one more year with these chucklefucks. One final year dealing with all the morons and idiots until you all inevitably fucked off to do your own thing, never caring to see each other again. It was slated to be a long school year, but luckily, you had something to look forward to this time.

hvass, illinois: a lengthy history. |
Hvass, Illinois is a deadbeat town with a storied history.

The midwestern town dates back to the early 19th century, wherein it was founded by Scandinavian immigrants that had made the journey to the United States following upheaval and strife back home. Although the original settlers included Swedes, Norwegians and even some Finnish, much of old Hvass had been built up by the Danish that preferred to settle in urban societies, in turn giving the town a strong Danish influence that persists even today.

When the drums of war came for the United States in the 1860s, splintering the country into Union and Dixie, the Scandinavians of Hvass had been eager to join the side of Lincoln. It was common among American Scandinavians to hold anti-slavery, pro-Lincoln sentiments, and Hvass was no different. Many Hvassites volunteered for military service in droves, in particular the Swedish population that inhabited the outskirt farmlands. A plaque outside the Hvass community center, dedicated in 1957, honors those who died serving the Union cause.

Despite the town's roots primarily as a farming town, Hvass saw a boom in both population and wealth upon the turn of the twentieth century. It, like many other meager Illinois towns at the time, had heavily invested in coal mining, factory work, etc. that carried over into the next century. Local historians consider this the golden era of Hvass, with the city's population pushing forty-odd thousand at its peak as it competed with other Central Illinois metropolitan areas such as Peoria, Springfield, Bloomington-Normal and Decatur. By the end of the World Wars, and eventually the Illinois exodus that begun in the 1970s, however, much of the prosperity Hvass had enjoyed disappeared, leaving empty, worn buildings behind as the locals left for greener pastures—a trend that still continues to this day.

the locales: trashy homes and rundown buildings. |
Though the city of Hvass has changed much since its founding, it has retained four main yet unofficial districts that separate the city into segments. These districts are the following: Downtown, the Southside Industrial Zone, the Neighborhoods, and the Hvass Business Complex. Down below, you can find specific information relating to each individual zone, along with some locations scattered within them.

SOUTHSIDE INDUSTRY ZONE:

Located in the southside of town, this place is where most of Hvass' industry is located. Originally a railway depot, it has since included other businesses such as a paper mill, ethanol plant, and more. The Southside district does have some houses and apartments, but those who live here tend to be among the poorest. No one lives here unless they have to, especially because of the ethanol stench and smog that blocks out any clear air.

DOWNTOWN:

The center of Hvass, the downtown is a shadow of its former self. Most of the original downtown still remains, yet the buildings are largely empty and abandoned of any sort of business. The few businesses that do exist are incredibly local, and the town council is invested in ensuring the remaining places don't fold and stay put in Hvass. If you're looking for the city's offices, this is where they're primarily located, along with town hall, the community center, post office and other important city buildings.

BUSINESS COMPLEX:

Directly east of Hvass' core, the Complex has seen much development, if not the only development in Hvass in recent years. In an attempt to draw large corporations and other businesses to Hvass and invest into the local economy, the city has sold off acres of old farmland for development. If you're looking to shop, grab a bite to eat or just looking for something to do, then the Complex is probably your best bet.

NEIGHBORHOODS:

Most of Hvass' neighborhoods are primarily located to the north, having formed around the large, aging houses built back when Hvass was focused around farmland. Those who live in these houses are what you would call "midwest rich", so if you don't come from some sort of wealth, you probably live in a neighborhood with smaller, average-sized homes that had been built mostly in early-to-mid 1900s. This is also where the city's schools are located, along with a number of parks and other greenery places.

needed a new thread for wayward coding. everything here is a work-in-progress in regards to the setting.

Switch 2 lol

$450 consoles, $80 games, more physical download cartridges, etc.

At least they're bringing Gamecube games into the expansion pack. I might actually buy the expansion pack just to play the Orre games, Chibi Robo, etc. on my Switch for the childhood nostalgia.
I'm not too worried. I'm certain that there'll be many groups still out there taking up the umbrella/writing every November even without the parent organization. Perhaps even the guild could commit to running something in the spirit of Nano. It'd certainly breathe life into the writing contest section since there are quite a few people who have taken part in Nano once upon a time hanging out around here on the forum.

"Thank you," Kali replied as she focused on driving.

She had been astonished at the chaos that on the streets, passing numerous shops being broken into. The city's police were attempting to seize control of the situation, but Kali could only tell that it was getting worse every second. She hoped Liana had still been safe; if people were taking advantage of the chaos to loot, what would they do for priceless artifacts? Surely someone had to be stupid enough to think they'd make it rich lifting fossils or ancient pottery from the nearby museum.

"There," Kali pointed out as they neared the building, "Only a few more blocks and we're there."

Continuing down the road, Kali pulled the car over to the edge of the curb next to a squad car. Worried about the police presence, Kali hurriedly shut off the car and raced up the steps of the building. Before Kali could reach the door, however, she noticed a group of figures inside the lobby, with one of them moving towards the lobby doors.

"Wait!" She called out the stranger, hoping that Liana was with them. "Don't lock it yet!"

Alexis "Lex" Karczewski

Location: New York Streets, Natural History Museum
Skills: N/A

It was safe to say that Lex was wholly underprepared.

Uncertainty wracked her train of thought. Sure, keeping the peace, ensuring no one stole things—all part of the job description. But a city-wide evacuation? Reports of attempted cannibalization? For as much (or perhaps little, depending on how you looked at it) she made, things were beginning to go way beyond her paygrade. Still, Lex had a job to do. She wasn't about to abandon her post, nor the staff and visitors now in her care. Even if Lex had felt uneasy, she had to weather, well, whatever this chaos had been.

"Right," Lex acknowledged with a nod, being ordered to check on everyone and to ensure their safety by one of the officers that had arrived earlier at the museum. "Will do."

Turning heel, Lex made her way to the nearest group of people—a woman, who had been introducing herself to another.

"Everything alright?" Lex asked, glancing first at the short-haired brunette, and then to the other woman who she now knew as Liana. "No one hurt or anything? I think I have some cash lying around for the vending machine if anyone is hungry."
