Current I'm going to have to take a break for awhile. One of my dogs just passed; we went to bed together like we always do and when I woke up she was gone. I feel awful right now.

Had a fun birthday. Had some alligator tail for dinner, overall was pretty good for a place I hadn't been to before. Will start getting back into the groove of things soon.

"No problem." Lex responded to Billie, who had now been trading snacks with another woman by the name of June.

She could notice the awkwardness that filled the back of the MRAP, evidently brought upon by the jokes that were being made. It was obvious why—people were mauled and ripped apart in the streets, and here they were sharing snacks amongst each other. Lex knew she couldn't fault June and Bille; she herself had been processing it all moments ago, her conscience worried about her job when people were dying. There was a carnal desire to hold onto some normalcy and calm, whether that be for better or worse.

"And, uh, don't worry about the fines. I think we have more important things to worry about right now."

More important things being that they were about to be trapped in New York. One of the officers' radio went off, declaring that they only had until 4 PM before the military would blow all the bridges in-and-out of Manhattan. Lifting her right arm, Lex looked at her g-shock watch that she had been wearing. It had been a little after 2 PM, which worried Lex. They had less than two hours on the clock to get out of the city, otherwise their own government would abandon them to the dead.

It felt like a slap in the face. It felt like betrayal; to be suddenly be left behind by the military designed to protect them. If they wanted to get out, they were going to need a plan of action.

"The tunnels into Jersey are probably blocked by now. And I don't think any of us want to be trapped beneath the Hudson with those things on our tail." Lex explained, before offering some suggestions as the MRAP began to drive off from the museum's parking lot. "We could head up north and cross the Washington bridge if we can, or keep going towards Yonkers. At least, that's what I think we should do, unless any of you have any better ideas in mind."

Kali nodded at Isaac. She hadn't felt entirely comfortable leaving Isaac to grab the supplies by himself, but at least the officer had agreed to act as his backup. "Let's go, Liana." She spoke to her roommate, ushering her onto the MRAP with the rest of the crowd. "They should be able to handle it. Shouldn't take them long to grab everything."

Or so she could only hope. Thankfully, the TWUNK of a crossbow bolt made it apparent that her fears were unneeded, as the crossbow-wielding man from before fired upon the approaching undead. Before long, Isaac and the officer had returned with supplies in-hand, little as they were.

"You two okay?" Kali asked Isaac and the officer as they returned to the MRAP that had been waiting on them so they could leave. Although they had made it back safe, she still felt it reasonable to ask. "I know it wasn't much, but it didn't seem wise to leave it behind."

Especially the rifle and the medicine, Kali had figured. They could probably find food at a hotdog stand or some street joint somewhere in the city, even if it was simply junk food. Might've not been the most nutritious, she knew, but it was food. On the other hand, giving up Gladys' rifle and the medicine they had gathered from Kali's apartment seemed like a fool's mistake while it was still right there in their reach. There was no telling when or if they would find either again on their way out of the city; it didn't take a genius to figure that one out.
Lots of people are finding us via Tiktok nowadays, huh.

The exosuit crawled its way into the bank from the back entrance. Once she had cleared the obstacle, Nancy stood the exosuit back up and activated Zero-Zero's scanners, searching for any sign of life in the bank's hallways.

"Righto," Nancy spoke, "Let's get down to business."

Or so was the plan. The sound of one's voice drew ever nearer, detected by the exosuit's communication software. Turning to the source, Nancy had been immediately greeted with a hail of gunfire from one of the 70th Street, which thankfully struck the nearby wall beside her rather than its intended target.

"Really?" Nancy spoke, absolutely flabbergasted. Zero-Zero's arms followed suit, thrown in the air in disbelief. "You're going to shoot me. Me. The giant armored robot. The thing that could squash you like a grape."

Sighing, Nancy readied herself and Zero-Zero for combat. Although the gangster was armed, she planned to take him down with force, rather than the energy-based weaponry that Zero-Zero had within its varied toolkit. The alarm may have been sounded by the gangster's gunfire, but she was still faced with one foe. It seemed wasteful to burn her suit's energy by blasting holes through the bank walls just to take out a singular target, despite how quickly it could eliminate her opponent.

"This is why they tell you to stay in school, kids."

Finishing her stance, Nancy piloted the exosuit forward in a charge. Smashing cold metal into the gangster, she hoped to take him out before any of his buddies showed up to his aid.
Right: Before I toss this RP back into the frying pan, I'm going to do another headcount so I know who is still around or not. If you're sticking around, please post here so I can cross your name off.

"Practiced?" Annifer asked, shifting the wooden shaft between her hands. Her gaze turned from the tall boy to the tool, carefully analyzing the old, rusted blemishes that now overtook the once shiny prongs. "Only in shoveling hay, I suppose. My father would've refused me the chance to fight, much less had the coin for the training."

The peasant girl pushed the ferrule into the mud, and returned her gaze to the boy.

"I believe we're alike. Two peas in a pod, as old Dorcas used to say." Annifer continued. "Two strangers, both adventuring in the unknown. Are we over our heads? Maybe, but perhaps that is what makes this all worth it."

Annifer offered the boy a calm smile.

"Forgive me, though. I haven't yet caught your name, friend. My folks call me Annifer. You?"

As Annifer awaited the boy's response, however, her attention was suddenly drawn elsewhere. Her ears had overheard, and her eyes drifted across the field in search. Ariesca—someone had seen her, but where?

It hadn't been long before Annifer had her answer. Long, vibrant red hair that danced in the air. Eyes the color of exquisite Hahralian silk shone against the sun. All aided by a disposition one anger could never rise against.

And clearly, as far as Annifer could see, with a sweet tooth to boot.

"I apologize." She explained, clearing her throat. "I have some matters to attend to, but I look forward to meeting you again. Perhaps later you could teach me that move from before. What say you?"

Regardless of what the boy had to say, Annifer nonetheless left him behind with a friendly farewell. Hurrying off in the direction of Lady Ariesca, she hoped to catch up with the noble before she could disappear from her sight.

Crash went the vending machine glass all over the museum floor. She could only hope that, like she had said earlier, her bosses were willing to forgive their actions today in light of the more dire circumstances. "Let me help," Lex spoke, the crunch of glass shattering beneath her boots as she grabbed her work pack and began to stash what she could inside beside Billie. "More hands are better than one."

Once everything had been gathered (or at least what they could possibly fit inside their pouches), Lex swung her pack behind her shoulders. She glanced at the crowd of zombies outside, and then to the MRAP. It would be only a matter of time before they neared the museum's doorstep, while a few of them began to turn their attention to the vehicle outside.

A tinge of guilt washed over her for abandoning her post, knowing her potential of further museum employment was probably over. Or maybe her bosses would decide she made the right call, prioritizing survival and human life over artifacts and treasures. Whatever would be decided, however, it didn't matter much if she was dead, ripped apart by the things outside the museum. There would be time to think on the "what ifs" later when it wasn't about to be chow time, with them as the planned course.

Hurrying herself out the doors with the rest of their group, Lex jogged over to the MRAP and boarded the vehicle.

Kali pondered Isaac's question. She, too, knew that leaving their supplies behind wasn't an ideal situation. They had taken the time to gather it all, and although it hadn't been much, what they did grab from her apartment was still valuable. The food was certainly more nutritious and fulfilling than some snacks, and the first-aid kit was equally important in the situation they were in.

"Do you think you can help us?" Kali asked, turning to one of the officers. She knew Isaac had the rifle Gladys' had given them, but Kali had no idea if he knew how to use it. With an officer, they'd have someone to cover their backs if shit hit the fan (at least, any worse than it already was considering the situation they were in). "The car is right outside the museum. There's some food, medicine. We can be in and out."

The sun shifted in the sky, ever-so moving as the passage of time progressed. And yet, Annifer had felt she had wasted the day; her quest to find Lady Ariesca yet to bear any worthwhile fruit.

The peasant girl stood idle in the distance, her gazed locked upon the sparring. A plated giant swooped upwards with his hammer, much to spectators' horror. A grotesque display, were splinter and hay instead flesh and blood. Still, Annifer did not fret. She was used to the world's brutalities, her thoughts returning home. Of when she took rock to rat's head, chancing disease to fend off starvation. Of when young Morwent had been struck by horse and crushed beneath wagon wheel.

Life was not kind, nor was it fair. But that was why she was here—to defy the destiny that had been laid out for her.

"Smashing, might I say." Annifer spoke, almost bluntly. She snuck a glance upwards at the tall boy as he resigned apologetic from the center stage. "You must've been practicing for some time."

Making its grand escape, the exosuit maneuvered down a series of winding streets and tight corners. Nancy had planned to return home (or so as far as you could call her place a home) and to prepare Zero-Zero for tonight's mission. Yet as she scaled the roof of a Shawarma Palace, one of many within the city, the interior HUD of the exosuit began to flash with several alerts and warning messages brought upon by the sudden crash of a large vehicle into a building.

WARNING. ARMED ASSAILANTS SPOTTED IN THE AREA. PREPARING ZERO-ZERO FOR COMBAT.

"Hold on, Zero." Nancy spoke. While she still had the chance, she began to survey the nearby area, and watched numerous armed men jump out from the back of several trucks. The back of their shirts were stylized with a 70—the 70th Street Gang. Not her prey of choice, but a nasty bunch nonetheless that she couldn't just ignore. "There are civilians in that building. We can't go in guns blazing."

AFFIRMATIVE. LIMITING PULSE WEAPONRY OUTPUT TO 50%.

"Better." Nancy replied. Zero-Zero's plasma pulses were deadly, capable of melting through solid metal. She couldn't risk civilians being caught in the crossfire. "Let's see about that back door."

Taking her opportunity, Nancy descended towards the bank while the 70th Street Gang were still hopefully distracted with the ongoing chaos inside. Gripping an emergency exit with powerful claws, Nancy pulled the metal door free from its hinges and proceeded to climb through to accommodate the exosuit's larger size.

"Now, where were we?" She asked herself, preforming a cautious scan of the interior for any signs of life, armed or not.
