Current I'm going to have to take a break for awhile. One of my dogs just passed; we went to bed together like we always do and when I woke up she was gone. I feel awful right now.

Had a fun birthday. Had some alligator tail for dinner, overall was pretty good for a place I hadn't been to before. Will start getting back into the groove of things soon.

Hi. If you've wound up here, you're probably wondering who I am.

You can call me Kuro, although some of you might better recognize me by one of the several other names that I have used in the past throughout the 11-ish years that I have spent on this forum. I'm a middle-twenties retail manager that is still trying to relive the glory days of their roleplay career while balancing a full-time job with an unsatiable need for overtime.

I tend to be open to most ideas when it comes to roleplay itself, be it whatever genre, group size, system, etc. That being said, I often gravitate to anything that falls in the following categories: anime, fantasy, slice of life, superhero or survival horror. If you believe that you have an idea that I might be interested in, feel free to shoot me a link; I'll get back to you as soon as I possibly can. Sometimes I forget to check my messages, so don't feel bad about pestering me again if I missed it.

I also have a discord server laying around. If we're cool, then I might be willing to a toss an invite your way.

Well, we three can change that! :D

It'd just depend on what would be a viable topic.

Some threads in the discussion sections barely get any posts. Others have just the OP and nothing else.
this is like finding out your work bestie got promoted to a manager role
Guessing this rp has no dice anymore.

No. Life has just been kicking my ass and I've been struggling to find the time and motivation to write anything. The little I've written in the last month is some of what I've owed people, but I'm trying to work things out when I have time. I've been busting my ass working overnights for a grand (re)opening for a store remodel, so I've just been dead tired during the day as I normally work days. Plus there's all the other bullshit I've had to deal with this month from the post office losing the rent check, family member forgetting to pay the house's water bill, the car being totaled, my package being swiped from our doorstep, etc. It's been one thing after another, so all I ask is patience.

As Oceans - Wolfgang

Appearance
  • Height: 5'1''.

  • Eyes: Dark brown, similar in color to her hair
  • Body Type: Extremely fit with muscular strength betrayed by her appearance; could probably out bench press most of the guys

  • Body Markings: SPQR tattoo with 15 lines of service and a jellyfish symbol

Personality:
Beware the calm before the storm.

Shiori is the testament of an old soldier despite her age. She is weary from years of battle, and the cracks show as she tries to adapt to a life she once dreamed of as a child. Her tone is solemn, yet commanding with presence and authority. She stands tall, but the old wounds still remain. Home is both where the legion is and New Rome. Moving on is necessary for Shiori, but were the legion ever to need her service again, the daughter of the sea would gladly stand ready at their darkest hour.

For now, however, peaceful shallows are abound. No more bloodshed. Just her, the fish, and a nice cup of tea.

History:
Born into a second generation Japanese-American family, Shiori grew up in the city of San Francisco. Her parents had been biologists, studying the local ocean and sea life as part of the Aquarium of the Bay's ongoing research activities. Shiori was enthralled with her parents' work at a young age—when she wasn't surrounded by textbooks and nature documentaries, she was helping her parents out at sea. It was as if she had a connection the sea itself, driven by a quest of knowledge and imagination.

As Shiori neared her teenage years, the most important day in her life came to be. A freak storm had sprawled across the bay while she was out at sea with her parents. Together, they made a desperate attempt to return to port, but their struggle was in vain as the vessel sunk beneath the tidal waves. Her parents did what they could to keep Shiori safe, yet even then their strength faded through the coming night. Shiori, too, stayed as long as she could, before her strength inevitably failed her, and proceed to sink beneath the waves to an untimely, wet and cold death.

Or so it would've been, had Shiori not been the child of Kymopoleia. She had found herself alive, undrowning, at the feet of a towering giant. The goddess had returned to claim what had been hers; her child, whose true heritage had shown through the wake of the very violent storm she had accidentally created.

Of course, Shiori couldn't believe what she had been hearing. It felt like a nightmare; the mysterious creature in her closet blaming her for the death of her parents. Yet everything also felt so real as much as it felt fake. The bright jellyfish tendril hair. The flowing green dress cinched with a belt of abalone shells. She didn't want to believe it, but the reality of the situation began to set in.

The monster was real, very much real, and she herself had been the one killed her parents.

Faced with this newfound realization, Shiori responded like any youth would: tears and volatile outbursts, intensified with the strength of a raging violent tsunami. Kymopoleia, recognizing her own internal struggles within her child, directed Shiori to the Wolf House, hoping that Lupa could set her on the right path. To be blessed with the ocean's wrath was an inordinate life to live, and she would not abandon her child like her father had done so to her.

Shiori's time with Lupa was short. Her anger was internalized and focused on the wolf's training. She wanted to get her powers under control; that she was something more than a kin slayer. Some might say it worked; others might disagree. Still, her willpower, but also the brute strength and skill she harnessed, impressed the old wolf and those of the Legion, earning Shiori a prime spot within the ranks of the 1st—a rarity for the child of a minor god.

From there on, Shiori lived the life of a soldier. She spent her ten years with the 1st Cohort, putting herself at the forefront countless times. Though it hadn't been long since her family had died, she had found a new one in Kymopoleia and the 1st. Her hatred towards herself passed over the years, having been replaced with a new calling, one dedicated to her fellow legionnaires of the Twelfth Legion. She'd fight for them. Bleed for them. Even die for them.

And so, when her ten years came up, Shiori chose to stay in the legion. The soldier's way was how she chose to live, and it, for all intents and purposes, was home. She was bound to protect the legion; to defend it, so that no one had to suffer like she had. Such dedication to the legion eventually found herself pushed into the upper echelons for a time, later taking on the role of one of the first's centurions when the role had found itself vacant upon the promotion of the former centurion to praetor. Perhaps she might've even been destined to follow in her footsteps, had the role not been taken by another member of the first.

Yet still, all old soldiers must meet one end or another, be it death or retirement. One by one, the years began to pass, melding into each other as each one came to an end. By her fifteenth year, it had caught up to Shiori, having since grown weary of fighting. Shiori had wanted to return to a more peaceful life, one away from the chaos of the battlefield. She had long since gotten her taste of war and its horrors, and no longer wanted part of it.

And so, when her fifteenth year came to an end, Shiori chose to retire. It was time to put the ocean's fury behind her, and allow for calmer waters. No more bloodshed, only the calming tranquil of an aquarium, like it should've been all those years ago.

"I heard, I heard, across a moonlit sea,
The old voice warning me,
"Beware, beware the Daughter of the Sea",
"Beware, beware..."
...of me.

Daughter of the Sea - Neal Acree

Godly Parent:
Kymopoleia

Relationship to Godly Parent:
Shiori has a complicated relationship with Kymopoleia. She now knows the goddess was her true mother all along, and often seeks out guidance from her godly mother. Still, however, she still remembers the woman who had played the role of her mother for years, and doesn't wish to see her memory pass.

Abilities Pertaining to Godly Parent:
• Hydrokinesis: Shiori has control over water, and can manipulate as she so desires. Being a daughter of Kymopoleia, however, her ability comes off more violent than most. Fury and wrath are melded into the storm, with waves to drown one in.

• Atmokinesis: Coming with the territory of Hydrokinesis, Shiori can call upon the storm. Typhoon and hurricane can and will rain upon her foes, turning the battlefield into a terrible place to be.

• Superhuman Strength & Durability: Like mother, like daughter. Her mother decapitated a giant with a simple toss of a shield, and could take a beating without flinching. It can be presumed that her mother's power lies within Shiori, albeit not at the level of Kymopoleia's.

• Water Immunity: Water does not affect Shiori like others. She can survive temperatures and pressures that others could not, in addition to not being able to drown in water.

Cohort:
1st Cohort

Position in the Legion:
Centurion (Former)

Fatal Flaw:
Loyalty

Weapons:
Anything and everything. Shiori has a repertoire of being skilled with many weapons, especially the legion standard gladius or spatha swords, over her long military career. If no weapons are available, then fuck, she'll brawl with tooth and nail. She'll tussle you into a chokehold if need be. That being said, Shiori is fond of the fuscina, or otherwise known as the sea trident. It comes with the territory of being the daughter of a sea goddess and the granddaughter of Neptune himself.

Misc Information:
• Shiori has a strong knowledge of sea life and aquarium keeping. It's one of her hobbies, and comes with the territory of being a demigod imbued with the powers of the sea.
• In combination with the above statement, she has built a local aquarium, and plans to find larger animals (or even monsters, such as a cetus or hippocampus) to go along with the exhibits. No, you don't get in free just by being a friend of hers. Food isn't cheap.
• That being said, if you're looking for a job, Shiori is always hiring.
• She enjoys nature documentaries and shows, mostly sea life related, but anything works.
• English and Japanese are her mother languages, though she knows Latin as a secondary (being a demigod and all).
• Very task oriented. She likes to run on a schedule, and often wakes early to get things done in the morning.
• Believes pineapple belongs on pizza. It's a topping, get over it.
• Still is fairly active. Plenty of exercise, including strength regimens, which are a holdover from her years of service.
• Not much of a video game player. Her game of choice is more often than a mobile game, or perhaps a chill-relaxing game (Zoo Tycoon, Animal Crossing, etc) if asked.
• See Rauni's sheet for the three answers to the questions.

It was something that was added awhile back. Don't remember when, but the anti-necro feature has been around for some time.

Anyway, I bought Grounded 2 just recently. I've always thought the concept of the series was neat, so I'll have to give it a go-around some time soon. Did pick up State of Decay 2 as well (well, really it's just been sitting in my back log all this time) since @mickilennial mentioned us potentially playing MP together.

Well, I was playing SoD 2 and meaning to play Grounded 2, but the homies got me on a Minecraft kick. Trying to build noteblock redstone machines is a struggle when you have to count out every redstone tick + ensure you hit the right note on each noteblock.
Roleplay Discussion and Off-Topic have been largely empty of conversation for some time now. I, and others, have attempted to bring back life to the boards, but haven't had much luck. We had some success with the prior video game thread, but overall most threads don't last longer than a few posts. I'd like to see the sections breathe with life again, but I doubt it'll ever happen with Discord and everything else.

"Are you daft?" Nancy quipped. Had the teenager not heard her? "I don't care how you got here; just get out of here before you get hurt!"

Still, despite her attempts to shoo away the teenager, it seemed the girl had no attention in leaving. Of course, out of all the knuckleheads in all of Paragon City, she gets to deal with the one kid who'd rather be shot at instead of running for safety. Had the academy teachers been teaching their students how to wind up in a body bag? Even if she had powers of some kind, a bullet was still deadly.

But then, a wave of eldritch magic sprung forth the girl. The blast struck one of the Delgato thugs, knocking him out in the process. Well, at least the kid was somewhat useful. Or so in as far as she didn't get herself killed, that was.

"Look, if you want to stick around and fight," Nancy replied. Taking advantage of the confusion brought on by the eldritch blast, Zero-Zero picked up some nearby building material in its arms, and chucked it towards the remaining Delgato thugs. "Then I'll tell you later. Just don't get yourself killed on my watch!"
