History

Life Before The Outbreak: Amelia Joan Beaufort was born in Glen Rock, New Jersey to a pair of loving parents: Diane and Paul Beaufort. Her parents had been college sweethearts from Norfolk, having moved to New Jersey a few years prior to Amelia's birth after Paul had secured a well-paying job in financial analytics at one of the county's major employers.

Throughout her childhood, life had been fair to Amelia. The Beauforts had lived comfortable lives, and were able to afford a certain degree of middle-class wealth to their name. They had board game nights, went to the movies often and vacationed during the summer and the holidays. She played various sports, scored decent in school, and wasn't much of a trouble maker—save for her mother trying to get Amelia to eat her vegetables. All and all, Amelia had been a shining example of a mostly well-behaved and nurtured kid.

But then came the vacation of her nightmares. It was the yearly family summer trip; a fancy island resort where she could lounge on the beach and swim in the ocean to her heart's content. Unfortunately, that ideal dream was quickly stolen away from Amelia as they settled down in their suite. No longer is she focused on coconut drinks and summer tans. Now, the only thing on her mind is staying alive and getting back home with her parents—provided her father is still alive out there among the outbreak.

The name Stefan had peaked her interest. She had sworn vengeance against Anthony Delgato. Taking his son out of the equation would unleash change untold. The loss of a son would devastate his empire, but most of all, it'd be an eye for an eye. Her father—her own fate, destined to be more machine than human—for Stefan. They had struck the first blow. Now all it mattered was for her to strike back.

"Relax," Nancy replied. Her sensors began to pick up movement as Madalyne moved Zero-Zero's side and rested a hand on the scarlet metal. "I'm not going to kill you. Same can't be said for your boss, though. They can beg. Scream. Cry. It won't help. Maybe his death will teach you all to not pick fights with the wrong people."

The cybernetic helm of Zero-Zero turned to Madalyne, who offered to call the police to take in the now captured Delgato criminals.

"I'm done with them." Nancy continued, still holding the Delgato in her grasp. Her tone was calm and steady; seemingly unafflicted by the rage and anger that had ushered the prior threat. "Go ahead and call the police."

Suzanna's grandfather had ingrained into her that survival often triumphs right and wrong. His anti-authorism beliefs have led Suzanna to believe authority is out for the common man, rather than exist to be there for them. In turn, Suzanna has become emotionally guarded and apprehensive to anyone who "steps out of turn", such as the realty agents prowling the land she came from. It wouldn't be wrong to say that she comes off stubborn, refusing to let herself be walked over.

That being said, Suzanna is someone who will break her own back for herself or her neighbors. Vulture kettles move in packs; being by yourself is bound to get you picked apart. She may have a rough exterior, but she won't let someone flounder. Only by standing together shoulder to shoulder in support of each other, Suzanna believes, can they survive against the vultures of the world. There's a reason why animals move in herds—those with power become powerless against unity.

Her parents hadn't planned for more kids. Her brothers had been well of age in the middle of their high school careers. Having another kid was entirely out of the question. And yet, she had been the surprise; the gift that kept giving.

The first couple years of her childhood were par for the course. Her parents did what they could to support Suzanna, although most of her belongings had been hand-me-downs that they had kept over the years. She liked being quite the nuisance to her much older brothers, and often deliberately antagonized them when she got the chance. She was supposed to have an average childhood, even if they hadn't had much to their name.

It happened shortly after her 6th birthday. Her parents had rolled their car off a cliff. The sheriff ruled it an accident; others swore murder. But for Suzanna, her life had drastically flipped upside down. Her parents were gone. Her brothers nowhere to be found or in no position to take in their sister. And so, Suzanna was given to the next person in line—her grandfather, a man she had hardly knew.

Her grandfather was a man of few words. Raising another kid hadn't been ideal for a man well into his years, but he wasn't going to let his only granddaughter be raised by someone else. By taking her in, he taught her what he knew. Hunting. Fishing. The way of the land and how to survive off it. He was by no means a prepper, but he saw teaching Suzanna how to be self-sufficient as some of the greatest knowledge he could pass on. If the government could not take care of its own people, he strongly believed, then it was up to the people to take care of themselves.

Still, even in the care of her grandfather, the world hadn't been finished taking things from Suzanna.

As Suzanna neared her twenties, old age finally came for her grandfather. His passing had been quick, and the funeral even quicker. She had found herself alone again, and this time with sudden bills breathing down her neck. Everyone wanted a piece of the pie. Old "friends" of the family. Debt collectors. Swanson's bullshit. If someone wanted money, they were there.

Faced with this newfound reality, Suzanna was forced to tighten her assets, however few they were. Useless junk was sold off, and side jobs were picked up. And yet, despite her attempts, it hadn't been enough. Keeping a roof over her head and food on the table turned into a challenge that she was destined to lose.

But then it clicked. Suzanna had the answer to her woes all along. The world had taken so much from her. She was going to claw it back, one extra fish and rabbit at a time—laws be damned.
