Yes, the slavery is a cultural thing that the X'Cor follow. However, they can naturally agressively as a tiger shark to a butterfly, most fall closer to the agressive side as it is simply their nature. Though this all depends on the individual as Oin is rather docile compared to the others.

They wouldn't enslave the mats so much as just destroy them outright for being very, very strange creatures that they do not understand. Granted, they would enslave them if they could understand their true purpose of cleaning water
