  • First and foremost, is there some kind of Magicka we need to keep track of, or do we just base it on how many spells we think they can cast in quick succession without being tired?
Yes. Player discretion, please. It'd be like if your character tried to sprint a marathon. Imagine the intense amount of concentration one would have to have to cast flamecloak, concentrate on keeping it up, then maintain that concentration to start flinging fireballs, then try to concentrate on pulling the very being of an atronach from its plane of Oblivion and also concentrate on holding the psychic link with that atronach so it doesn't start slaughtering everyone wholesale because 'holy shit where am i this is not home who are these people oh fuck they're all fighting'
  • I've picked from spells that come from the games, but how do those convert themselves into this RP? Do the durations stay the same, or are we allowed to fiddle with how long spells can last?
Again, player discretion, refer to my answers before and after this one as well.
  • Can we have a Concentration spell (like in D&D if you know it), which means it is up as long as you can maintain it (usually has a longer duration), but can only have one Concentration spell running at any one time, so should you wish to end the effect or your concentration gets interrupted, you lose hold of the spell.
I've heard it said that mages commonly cast from the hands because it is the easiest point to focus your magicka. It is fair to say that any spell cast needs a fair bit of concentration to maintain, but this is interpreted in two different ways:

With spells like flame, frost, healing, etc. (spells that one would need to hold the trigger down to cast in-vidya-gaem) it is safe to interpret that game mechanic as the spell lasting for as long as you can concentrate on keeping a steady, even flow of magicka pouring out through the mental focal points that are your palms.

With spells like fireball, fast healing, ice spike, etc. (spells that require one press of the trigger) it could be interpreted as the character focusing on building up magicka at the focal point of their palms and releasing it.

Spells like stoneflesh and other 'mage armor' spells could therefore be interpreted as the mage in question visualizing a 'second-skin' of magicka coating themselves.

So, yes, each spell is a sort of concentration spell in its own right. I hope this helped explain how in-character casting would work.
  • Are we able to cast with both hands to make more powerful versions of the spell? If that is need to be learned, can we learn it?
Yep, the hands are the easiest focal points for a mage to pool their magicka and release it, it's fair game to say that the act of using both hands could mentally lead to better concentration, ergo, a stronger spell effect.
  • How many spells can we choose to know if we're Highly Proficient in a school? On Brynja's CS I see seven. How many if we're Somewhat Proficient? Lemme get back to ya on this
  • Can we cast "Self" targeted spells on others?
Things like mage armour require the intense mental fortitude that is trained up by mages in order to visualize that second-skin of magicka coating their bodies. It would take the target being able to employ the same techniques the mage is using, but at that point, they'd be better off casting it themselves. The different levels of mage armour(oakflesh, stoneflesh, ironflesh) could be interpreted as the amount of magicka the user is able to pool up in a 'layer' throughout their entire body.

This same logic could be used for other spells of the same nature, cloak, waterwalking, waterbreathing, etc.

In the case of healing spells, theoretically, yes.
  • Can I get a cookie?
Yea, of course. Funny, weird thing though, I keep them in my basement sooo. Yea, you first, I'll be down in a sec.

@That1Guy
The best character I've seen played with an Atronach birthsign was another guy from another TES RP. He took the birthsign and really ran with it, having the character's pool of magicka effect not only their casting strength but their mood and energy level. A human battery, if you will. You can refer to my answers to the questions above for how in-character casting is interpreted. Feel free to let me know if you need me to flesh out any of my answers for you.

Of course. I'll even take some tonight!

Do not test the Steakmaster, for I hold the babby cow pictures. (Until they grow up, get ugly and we eat them but that is besides the point)

>Not indulging in veal
@POOHEAD189you don’t get the shaft until I say so, bub
@DeadDropI'll get around to actually reviewing it soon. Looks nice and shiny so far.
@badguy28Cool. Welcome to clown town, where everyone’s down as Charlie Brown. I’ll be your co-GM for this hellflight, mainly in charge of making shitty jokes and critiquing CSs.

@ONLS’alright. We’re all steadily plodding along on our stuff. Real life is busy these days, so no worries.
Also, forgot to clarify for anyone if they didn’t already figure it out, you are fully capable of rolling to make an action for something your character isn’t even a novice level in, you’ll just have a pretty big penalty to cross with the roll.

Identity

Personality: Fritzi grew up rough, with an alcoholic father and a mother too scared of him to leave. This environment can either harden a child and develop a thick shell of spite and anger, or it can break them down into a mushy mess of trauma and low self-esteem. Fritzi vowed that she would make something of herself and not end up like her Afghanistan-vet father. That thick shell of spite and anger propelled her like a bullet through a life of high-risk careers.

Because of her upbringing, she has trouble trusting others she hasn't shared some sort of hardship with, whether that be combat or just the simple workload her career entails. She speaks little unless she feels what will pass her lips is important. She is not a constant curmudgeon though, able to have a much-needed sense of humor when the going gets rough, learned from years of having the going get rough. To those outside of her immediate circle- which is most people she knows- she is a strong woman, capable of walking off all the things life throws at her with the ease of a tightrope walker.

Much like the same tightrope walker though, that appearance wasn't gained without many trips, stumbles and falls. She views life as a challenge, a mountain to be climbed, a beast to be conquered, a roiling sea to cross. She'd be damned if she was caught in the tides and drowns.

Along with all of this, she isn't as bad as she seems and does grow on people. To those she deems close enough to become friends, she lets her humorous side show and opens up, albeit very slowly. She recognizes the value of trust and bonding when it comes to working in a team environment and, because of this, will go to great lengths to help those she sees as friends through rough spots. She doesn't have much family left and most people don't understand the life of someone in her line of work, so friends and confidants are hard to come by.

She also has a soft-spot for mothers and children, being a mother herself. She will show a side of weakness when it comes to children, almost doting on them even if they're not her own. Like her willingness to take to people quicker if they've shared the hardships of military service and combat, she has the same outlook towards parents in general. Raising a child might not be the stress levels of a tightly-wound spring ready to explode at any moment, but it is an endeavor that deserves commendation when done well.

Strengths: An almost single-minded obstinance when it comes to her work.
She views the connections she makes with people, however few, are deep as her bones. She views the betrayal of these bonds as grounds for physical altercation. She is very goal-oriented, always wanting to trim the fat from her life to streamline her ability to achieve success. Whether that fat might be people or the time it takes to walk from her laptop to her garbage can, she can and will change something about it.

Weaknesses: She has a habit of smoking, and she does have an urge to go to the bottle when things get exceptionally rough. She has a well-hidden deep mistrust of those outside the circle of people she deems as trustworthy, in her line of work it pays to be cautious. In times of great stress, she can tend to focus too much on her work and enter into unhealthy headspaces and habits, such as chain-smoking and under-eating. She can also be a little hot-headed and irritable in these sorts of mindstates, but takes precautions to avoid going to that place. Life sometimes has a way of bypassing those though.

Likes: Cigarettes, because work is stressful sometimes
Whiskey, because being sober is stressful sometimes
Quiet nights of alone time, she likes to focus on quieting her mind sometimes after a long day of hard work
Quiet nights of team bonding, Sitting around and bullshitting with the team is a good way to get your mind off things. Not to mention a good way of collecting intelligence to forward to your agency.
Reading, because sometimes she'd rather be a large barbarian warrior in a snowy hellscape
80's Hard rock and heavy metal, a leftover love from her childhood
Achieving goals in any aspect of her life, goal oriented

Dislikes: Cigarettes, they cause cancer, she doesn't want cancer
Quiet nights when she doesn't want alone time, being alone can be the opposite of tranquil for her
Being bothered while she's working, it's either a minor annoyance or risking being jailed for espionage against UN interests
Plans gone awry, she doesn't like to be disappointed knowing she could've done better
Liars, they are an affront to every ideal she holds
Abusers, being the survivor of abuse, she has a special hatred for these people

Fears: Rejection, both romantic and social
The prospect of never being the mother her child needs, because what mother wants that
Failure such as that she is burned by her organization, or stuck behind a desk. She was made for field-work and has worked hard to let her superiors know that.

Biography

Fritzi was born in West Virginia in a small town named Flatstone to Peter and Helge Armbruster. Peter was a German immigrant who joined the Army to gain his citizenship and was forever changed after his experiences in Afghanistan. When he came home, he was a changed man, friendlier to the bottle than he was to his wife or daughter. Fritzi spent as much time away from home because of this, a fact she would later regret when her father had hospitalized her mother and family friend, Joseph, on the Fourth of July during a particularly extreme episode of PTSD. She knew if she was there, she could've done something to stop it, or at least she told herself that. After the events of that night, she vowed to be more than her father, and bless her heart, stronger and more independent than her mother. To not make the same choices as her.

Her high school years were turbulent, in which she was involved in numerous cases of fighting, drug use, and attendance issues, which landed her in counseling for her emotions and drug use. She resented it, and resented her mother for it, and blamed her father at every point for making this happen. The counseling did not help, and she kept going up until she graduated from high school with nothing much changed other than a child and her boyfriend. She applied to many colleges and was given an acceptance letter by none. Out of options, she walked past the threshold of an Army recruiting center, something she was initially uncomfortable with because of her father's background in the military.

Even so, she signed on for an initial four years as a 37F, or Psychological Operations Specialist. She seemed to be shaping up into a fine soldier as the days, weeks and months went on. The Army fostered her spite into a can-do attitude and her career took off from there. Being shipped off to sensitive areas where the US had interests, she was put on the ground to help everything from humanitarian missions to sensitive assignments she may still not be able to talk about the particulars of, at which point she'd spent six years in the military. It was around this time that she received word from home that her high school sweetheart husband was struck and killed by a drunk driver with their daughter in the car. Thankfully, her daughter had survived with minor cuts and scrapes. With no one to take care of her while she was gone, Fritzi reluctantly gave the girl over to her Aunt Maddie and Uncle Charles.

Not long after, her career took a turn for the worse on a relief effort assignment in the mountains of Afghanistan. Tasked with accompanying a contingent of UN aid workers to an isolated village recently attacked by the Taliban, her convoy came under fire and her food truck in pieces from an IED. She managed to crawl to safety and rally some of the survivors before they were chased further up the valley.

It was a five hour firefight hunkered down by dilapidated mud-brick housing, some trees and a rock or two. This event is still something she sees in her dreams to this day. She came under fire for losing three of her soldiers and she knew she had no hope of any more promotions. She now had somewhat of an understanding of what her father went through, but even that would not allow her to let go of the past. She spent the remainder of her career in a limbo and just before her contract was up, she was approached by a man named George Gracy. He urged her to accept his offer. There was nothing for her back in her hometown, re-enlisting would prove fruitless with her past fuck-up and she would be unfulfilled working any desk-job she could get after the military.

So she took him up on his offer.

A few months later, she was attending classes and receiving training in everything from marksmanship, martial arts, tradecraft and languages at the fabled training camp, The Farm. It was not long before the CIA could mold her into something they needed, taking her can-do attitude and ability to mold almost seamlessly into different cultures and stripping away the Army uniform from it all. Her first assignment for this mission was somewhat underwhelming to her, and only a desk-job of a different sort- she was to be implanted into the IRV Howard's Science Team as the CARAPACE tech, responsible for maintenance and data analysis. Her reasons for the mission were need to know, and she did not need to know, it seems.

IT WASN'T INTENDED, BELAY THAT ACTION, SON

And I see, just make the proper edits and whatnot. And of course not! Gravy and I are more than willing to make character concepts get as far as they can as long as they make sense. Worry not, my friend.
@MegaOscarPwn

Alright, since I'm Co-GM, I guess I can do my job. I'm glad to have you onboard(no pun intended) and I will be the guy helping to critique CSs! Woo!

Let's get started, shall we -

Anime Picture - Please, find another picture to use for your character. I have no gripes with anime, but given the art-style of almost every anime ever, it is almost impossible to gather an actual human-like representation of what your character's face looks like past a written description. You know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Weaponry - The armory on the IRV Howard, which is accessible only to cleared Security Personnel behind thick, reinforced plexi-glass, holds a stock of the following -

Benelli M4 shotguns with buckshot and beanbag rounds, buckshot can only be accessed after Defcon 1 protocols engaged
MPX 9mm submachine guns kitted out with Aimpoint micro-holographic sights, can only be accessed after Defcon 1 protocols engaged
M4 carbines kitted out with EOTech sights and foregrips, can only be accessed after Defcon 1 protocols engaged

Security Officers are equipped with collapsible batons, police-issue tasers and pepper-spray. No officer is individually issued lethal weaponry. This is mainly a science vessel after all, with no combat capability or role.

Biography - Oscar having a life fraught with hardship is a-okay with Gravy and I. My only gripe with the section about his early years is that I don't think throat cancer could result in someone dying as bloody a death as you described. If you know better, than I cede this one to you, but otherwise this can be changed and still maintain the impact it had on young Oscar.

Also, I'm not exactly sure at what age in Spain you become a legal adult but I am assuming it is the age of 18? Either way, with both his parents dead by the time he turns 15, who takes him in after that? Did he have a job at the time? How was he getting money to live alone if no one took him in?

Please try to elaborate on the sorts of things that Oscar had done in his time as a singer/songwriter and actor. What type of people did he meet, what was the expanse of his fame, what type of films/TV series did he star in, how did he meet this rival of his that he would later accidentally kill?

On that note, also. I'm sure in 2058, let alone 2017, the Spanish police would've caught Oscar long before he fled Spain to America. Not only that, but forensic evidence could've put Oscar at the scene and as the perpetrator. The US would've obviously banished Oscar back to Spain to see his trial through and serve prison time.

At that point, I doubt the interview board for the IRV Howard would've let someone with a violent history as extreme as Oscar's to join the security personnel of the ship. Please find another way for Oscar to have found himself into the role of bounty hunting and what exactly "shady" means as to what kind of jobs he took. Keep in mind that the committee responsible for recruiting the team vets all their prospective members thoroughly.

Skills - Your skills are alright, but because I'm a bastard, I'm about to invalidate all the hard work you put into color-coding all that stuff.

The skills list put in there was supposed to be a placeholder you could pick from, input the selected skills in their desired section on your character's skills list, and then just erase after using it. Helps to cut down on work and, well, straining my eyes from trying to read all that multi-colored stuff.
