Sorry guys, I think I have to drop this RP. College is ramping up and I don't have time to keep up with the posting, even as slow as it is. I guess I'll bow out early when Yuki is still a stranger.
As she neared Killion, Triss noticed a message pop up on the corner of her HUD. Curious, she opened up the page, saw that it was from...the UN.
Huh.
She stared at it for a moment before giving a shrug and an uncaring "meh," closing it down and instead focusing on not crashing and dying. She was, in fact, so focused on the road that she didn't notice the white-blue teleportation fizz beginning to form around her body. Then her vision flashed white for a moment and she ended up launching herself and her grav-cycle into a particularly stubborn wall.
Swearing, she picked herself up. Her health bar was significantly depleted, and Jericho was smoking and flaming. A long string of subsequent curses spewed from her mouth, so much that she nearly missed the video pop up in front out her. As her level cap popped away, she stared with utter disinterest. She wasn't anywhere near the cap, so she really didn't care either way. She was months away from using this new "feature."
As the man shown on the screen flickered away, she stared for a moment more where it had been and ineffectual kicked her broken cycle. Looking around at the people that surrounded her, she found herself profoundly unimpressed. Oh, sure, they had bigger numbers; most had previously been level capped. But she could tell just by looking at them that they had things like "ethics" and "morals," none of which Triss tended to concern herself with. In fact, she'd known of Mayhem for a while. He was probably her most prominent client, so she really had no reason to want him out of power. He paid her well, and she loved the work. Why jeopardize it?
Shrugging, she kicked Jericho once more before stretching and walking away from the small group of people. "You guys have fun with that. Later." She'd find her way back to Killion without Jericho, and return to the status quo.
Nodding happily at Alason, Anwen nudged aside the nearly-invisible bark slab. It slid neatly to the side, revealing the cavity. It was quite small, only six or so feet in diameter at the widest point. It was dominated by the bed, the mattress of which seemed to be constructed entirely of thick, fluffy moss. All of the furniture was grown out of the tree itself, and only a very few objects were unnatural. The only noticeable one was a large, impressive sword that hung on the wall, gleaming dully and carved with floral motifs, a string of thorns running across the blade from a rose on the hilt. Depositing Cloud on a small nightstand with extraordinary gentleness, she turned to Alason.
"Here we are! Welcome to my tree!"
She set herself to getting something to eat for herself, simultaneously giving Alason a firsthand view of her powers as she once again sang raspberries from their vine. Almost as an afterthought, she held out a handful to the well-clothed man. "Want some?" Without pause, she plopped the pile of berries down next to Cloud's sleeping form. She stripped herself down to her undergarments, sighing happily at the air on her skin and tossing herself on the bed, conveniently forgetting the lack of any chairs for Alason to use in her abode.
"So," she asked from her prone position, "what's your house like?" She assumed that he lived on the supernatural side of the worldly divide, and in her peculiar mind she envisioned an ominous tower surrounded by dark clouds and circling ravens, heedless of the obvious anachronism that Alason's classy suit would be in that atmosphere.
Triss was a dervish as she slashed savagely through the small group of newbies before her. The battery embedded in her chest, usually a bright cyan turquoise, was glowing with intense crimson light as she redlined, activating Overdrive three separate times. A second Light Strike came out and she circled around behind, tossing the knives and reeling them magnetically back to her hands. The red light flickered back to blue, her form blurring to incredible speeds. Through it all, a smile remained plastered to her face and exhilarated laughter bubbled from her lips. The angry hum of her plasma knives searing through the air rose and fell as she slashed.
"And that--" hummmm "is why--" hummmm "PK'ing without knowing your target's level--" hummmm "is a really bad plan!"
In short order, the low-leveled players had been dispatched. Laughing exultantly and deactivating her knives, she transmatted her grav-cycle, mounting the sleek machine. A beautiful object in Genesis, she could only imagine how ugly the people on the other worlds would call it. A banged-up red and ash-gray vehicle with Jericho emblazoned in black on the side, it would take far worse to damage it than anything those socialites in Exodus could dish out. She stroked it, cooing to it softly as she cranked the accelerator, gunning the cycle across the dust. Before her, hovering in the sky, gleamed a huge floating city. Sanctuary: Killion. Once her virtual haven, the escape from endless hours of drudge work as a dishwasher, it had metamorphosed into both her home and her prison.
The shrieking insectoids around her screamed, launching their bodies at the vehicle only to bounce comically off. As she drove, she slid open her menu, opening the PM window and tapping in a message:
Took care of PK'ers. Credits expected upon arrival in Killion. Triss
Jabbing the send button, she grinned in satisfaction. Those players had been grouping up on low-leveled soloers for months. That bounty would be worth a fortune.
Though the sudden arrival and seeming aggression of the extraordinarily pink-haired girl threatened to send her directly into peacekeeping mid, a bright smile lit up Yuki's face as she listened to the fox spirit, who seemed more than able to perform that role himself. Aside from the fact that merely seeing this 'Ichiru' made her overly-human skin itch, a lot of what he was saying made sense, as far as sense went when surrounded by yōkai and spirits. Once again exercising her habit of shuffling the shoulders of her kimono, she made to introduce herself before the tattooed angry-looking fellow had the nerve to deface the shrine's fox statue.
While he quickly moved on from Ichiru to the winged...being...that was cavorting about, Yuki swallowed and stepped forward, face the model of tranquility.
"Look," she began patiently, talking as though the rough man was a young child, "we all want Anjou gone, apparently. But just because he's a tyrant doesn't mean all foxes are evil."
She trotted forward, doing her best to wipe the graffiti from the state's face. "I'm fine with not believing everything one hears, but don't put all foxes in that maniac's boat." She bowed politely to the group, and to the sailor in particular, winking and smiling cheekily as she flicked an ear in his direction.
"Matsuoka Yukiko, kitsune. It's nice to meet you all!"
She raised her head, once again taking an inventory of the people there. An exceedingly zealous bakeneko, judging by just how vehement he was in his description of Anjou. Angry-Mr-Tattoos, who was now questioning the bird-creature's bizarre choice of words. A half-naked masseuse, covered in corded muscles.
A talking pumpkin.
And that wasn't anywhere close to everyone. A nearly imperceptible sigh crossed her lips.
As Alason poked around the base of her tree and checked it out in general, Anwen smiled like a proud homeowner. Well, she kind of was one, but certainly not in the typical sense.
"You seem like the kind of guy who's just utterly obsessed with knowledge to the point where it's a little weird!" She relied cheerfully, seemingly unaware of her insult. "And I want to know more about you, too! So I thought that if I took you to my tree, I could ask you some questions!"
Turning her head to the canopy for a moment and chattering her teeth strangely, she laughed as a small red squirrel jumped to her shoulder, replying with a similar sound before nestling down into a ball and covering its face with it's paws. She scratched it's neck fondly for a second, then twitched her finger at the tree. Just like when she left it in the morning, the bark peeled rapidly back along the staircase, revealing it as it spiraled around the trunk. Mounting the first few steps, she turned to face Alason.
Yuki had lost the path some time ago, wandering astray into the forest. The way to Mount Senkiai from Kōku was a long one, especially with no money to pay for a carriage. As her hair caught on every branch in sight, she continued crashing through the forest. Despite the years since, she'd never fully recovered from the loss of her animal senses, leaving her somewhat disadvantaged when traveling through wilderness.
The oppressive aura of the yōkai around get pressed upon her, clouding her senses even further. After an hour's hopeless searching, she sighed, utterly lost.
Then, from before her, she heard the faint sound of voices. Stumbling through trees, she emerged into a placid, tranquil clearing. The yōkai presence around get dissipated, replaced with a feeling of calm. A pair of words fled to the surface of her mind and she murmured them reflexively, spitting leaves: "Kado shrine..."
Only then did she notice the small gathering in front of herself. Rearranging and flattening the kimono that had become so disturbed by her trek and wiping the sweat from her brow, she trotted over. "So...do any of you know where we are? I'm really lost..."
Yuki's homeland is the mountainous northeast. Their chief methods of survival and trade commodities are fish and rice. Barring that, there's very little of value. That region, called Kōku, is very poor. The harsh winters are exceedingly brutal, often killing many people. Aid is never sent by the wealthy. That's a great part of why Kureno was spreading sedition.
Previous Occupation: Was jobless, just out of college
Appearance:
Player/Beta Tester/Hacker: Player Alliance: Currently Unaligned Gamertag: TR1SS Alias: Triss Cheryn Gender: Female Level: 52 Class: Battleborne Subclass: Melee-spec Battleborne called a Wanderer, geared more around evasion and close-quarters combat than around ranged weapons. Traditionally uses lighter armor. Weapons: Triss duel-wields a pair of knives that project a blade of atom-thin plasma. While capable of searing through nearly anything, their power peters out very quickly and they have a long downtime for charging. They also glow a very bright blue, making using them at night or in dark places an exercise in anti-stealth. The blades are activated by depressing a trigger on the grip. A small button elsewhere on the grip protrudes when the blades are activated. Depressing it will turn the blades off.
While not a weapon so much as a tool, she also has a gravcycle on transmat, letting her materialize the personal hovercraft anywhere that has a view of the sky, barring a few places that aren't reached by the transats.
Abilities: I - Fighting Style: A passive ability. Because of the significant downtime on her knives, she selected a fighting style called Whirlwind. It sacrifices nearly all defensive potential for heightened speed and extra offensive power. The knife in her right hand is held in a backhanded grip, whereas the knife in her left hand is in a forehanded grip. She can barely block, but she attacks very quickly and powerfully.
II - Reckless Abandon: When activated, Reckless Abandon further improves Triss’ attack and movement speeds by 30%. However, whenever damage is taken with this ability active, it is multiplied by 1.3x. This synergizes with the core of Triss’ skillset, Overdrive. Consumes 10% Battery to activate (more on that later).
III - EM Cords: When this ability is active (which is nearly all the time), the palms of Triss’ gloves and the grips of her knives are magnetized together, letting her retrieve them once dropped or thrown up to a distance of 5 meters. If she isn’t careful, though, and overextends her throws, this ability automatically deactivates, leaving her disarmed.
IV - Thermal Vision: When Triss activates Thermal Vision, she gains, well, just that. Out to 50 meters, she can see fine—though only in shades of gray—and can also see heat signatures. However, her vision rapidly drops off after 60 meters, rendering her completely blind, INCLUDING heat signatures, after 80 meters. Her eyes are also put under a great deal of strain, and have a faint reddish glow about them. This synergizes with Overdrive. Consumes 5% Battery/second
V - Light Strike: When this ability is activated, Triss’ perception of time is slowed immensely for two seconds, or until she makes a single attack. Her reaction time is increased accordingly. To others, this appears to let her move and attack at unbelievable speeds, though there’s a long 45 second cooldown on using it. This synergizes with Overdrive. Consumes 20% Battery to activate.
VI - Force Multiplier: For five seconds, Triss can move faster and deals more damage depending on her current Adrenaline. However, once the duration is up, 75% of current Adrenaline is lost. This has no cooldown, which means it’s essentially a worse, but more commonly usable, version of 2nd Wind. If used instead of 2nd Wind while at 100% Adrenaline, the conferred bonuses increase by 25%. However, during that time, Adrenaline rapidly depletes by 10% every second, as do the bonuses conferred by Force Multiplier. Consumes .25% battery to activate per % of Adrenaline. Synergizes with Overdrive.
VII - Focus: The last of Triss’ passive abilities and part of the Wanderer subclass, Focus is slowly built alongside Adrenaline when in combat. When Focus is full, the next ability used will have an augmented effect: Thermal Vision - Gains vision through walls that are less than 1 foot thick Light Strike - If an enemy is attacked during the duration of Light Strike, it will take 25% more damage and be unable to move for .5 seconds Force Multiplier - Reduces Adrenaline consumed depending on current Adrenaline, up to consuming only 50% at 99% current Adrenaline. Reduces Adrenaline drain rate when used at full Adrenaline by 2 Adrenaline/second, resulting in two additional seconds of Force Multiplier.
VIII - Overdrive: The main class mechanic of the Wanderer, Overdrive determines pretty much everything about them. Passively, the Wanderer’s abilities are fueled by their Fusion Battery, a large cylindrical object embedded in their chest. When out of active combat, the battery’s supply regenerates by 5%/second. In combat, it stops regenerating entirely. When in combat, they can activate one of three levels of Overdrive any time they use a valid ability. When this happens, the ability doesn’t consume Battery energy, the Battery’s supply replenishes somewhat, and the ability gains amplified or additional effects. The list that Triss currently has access to goes as follows:
Reckless Abandon: Speed buff is increased by 10% for each level of Overdrive, to 40%/50%/60%. However, the damage-taken multiplier is increased from 1.3x to 1.5x/1.7x/2.0x. Replenishes 10%/15%/20% of Battery.
Thermal Vision: Range of good vision is increased by 20 meters for each level of Overdrive, from 50 to 70/90/110. However, when deactivated, the user is afflicted with total blindness for 10/20/30 seconds and the ability is more painful. Replenishes 2%/3%/4% Battery/second.
Light Strike: The window of time increases from 2 to 3/4/5 seconds and the cooldown on the next Light Strike is reduced by 5/10/15 seconds from 45 to 40/35/30 seconds. However, damage dealt during the window of time and for ten seconds afterward is reduced by 10/17/25%. Replenishes 15%/25%/35% Battery.
Force Multiplier: This ability has only one level of Overdrive. It increases Adrenaline consumption to 100% and amplifies damage by the amount of Adrenaline consumed. However, it completely eliminates the speed buff. When activated at 100% Adrenaline, you can choose to consume Battery instead of Adrenaline to keep the full bonus for a longer period of time. However, this drains the Battery at a very rapid rate of 10% per second. Replenishes 20% Battery.
Additionally, when Battery exceeds 90% during combat, the Wanderer ‘redlines,’ increasing battery consumption from all sources by 50% but increasing damage dealt by 25%.
Bio: Cassidy was an altogether typical person. She went to college as a psych major. For a long time, she'd been interested in what makes people tick. She was also, quite predictably, a regular gamer. While she usually played FPS games, she'd recently gotten into MMOs when Elysium was released. Plundering her savings, she finally stored up enough money to buy the VR headset required to play the game. When the game locked and she found herself trapped, it had quite an...adverse affect upon her sanity. The Killion Genocide certainly didn't help, especially given that her only real friends at that point lived in Killion, and she hasn't heard from them since.
At this point, she wanders around the wastelands of Genesis as a thrill-seeking adrenaline junkie bounty hunter, absolutely insane and seemingly with a death wish.
