The worst thing about mental illness is you have to look after yourself a disgusting amount. I know it's the only way to actually be in a fit state to look out for others, but it still feels wrong.

Judging by the Internet's definitions of introversion and extraversion, you'd think everyone's either an extreme hermit or a party animal with no in between.

Bio

A frazzled British thirtysomething cat mum with something of a tea addiction.

I like a wide range of RP genres, but have two absolute favourites: Pokemon and magical girls. (If someone manages to combine the two, I'll be VERY happy!) I post fairly regularly, but sometimes shit mental health days crop up - if that causes any delays, I'll try to resume posting ASAP.

Jessamyn "Jess" Bailey

Jess hadn't expected an anchor as a counsellor, but that was a much-needed stroke of luck. An empath would surely pick up on things that couldn't be ignored, especially considering Roxy's difficulty hiding emotions. Plus, when she thought about it, it made sense - people like Laura could put struggling empaths like her at ease, and relate to other anchors. From what Jess had read, the troubles of anchors were often overlooked, simply because they weren't the isolated ones.

She nodded, backing up Roxy's brief and to-the-point statement, and listened to Laura's calming tone. "Nobody's to blame," she replied, recalling her mother's tireless efforts to get her matched. "But yeah... It's certainly different. Familiar yet different, if that makes sense." A weak smile accompanied her words.

"We're starting to connect better," she continued, "but, well, it's the first time in five years I've interacted with anyone face to face, and Roxy lived alone too until we were matched up." At once, she regretted that last part. Yes it was inevitable if any progress was to happen, but would Roxy take it as an insult, or be at a loss for an explanation? It wasn't as if she could mention why she kept a safe distance - or that it had turned out no amount of distance was safe enough.

Catching herself chewing the inside of her lip, Jess stopped and spoke up again. "This connection we're beginning to build... What's the best way to work on it?"

It looked like there was no talking the headstrong new recruit out of it. All Fuyuko could do was resolve to make sure nothing went wrong on this mission, but uncertainty and self-doubt chipped at her morale. "Well... If it's what you feel is right," she whispered, lifting up her phone, "I'll let the person I'm working with know." She hesitated, then remembering the girl's dislike of waiting, tapped a quick message to Shining Fist.

"Hello? It's Yamazaki here, and it's about the watcher situation. Sorry I couldn't find much last night, but there's someone else who wants to help us, is that ok?"

Pressing send, she could only hope none of them would end up regretting this.

"Thank you..." She inclined her head to the brunette, that strained smile tugging at her lips. "We'll need a plan, but hopefully with three of us, we can make some leeway this time. And uh... Sorry I haven't introduced myself yet. Yamazaki Fuyuko, and your name is...?"

Freya Leander ~ Cait Sith

@Heartfillia @pkken

Freya suppressed a squirm. At least nobody died... No students had, but images of the guards' sprawled forms flashed through her mind. Although Raymond's comment was much kinder than Eira's, she hoped it didn't bring those memories back for Renard.

She listened to Raymond's explanation for his absence, which became more of an apology. "Hey, not your fault," she replied, attempting to lower the wall he'd put up, as evidenced by the book he took refuge in. He didn't need to blame himself any more than Renard did. "And the fewer people involved, the better."

A stretch of uncomfortable silence went by. Freya finished her sandwich, pondering a subject that wouldn't loop back to the current one. It seemed unavoidable, the shadow of Friday's events lingering in the background no matter how they tried to distance themselves. Thankfully, Raymond spoke up with a happier topic.

At the mention of a bakery, Freya raised her head. "Free food? Not gonna say no to that." While she didn't have as much of an appetite as usual, she'd probably be hungrier later, stress starting to ease as people did what they could to lighten the mood.

She chuckled at Renard's little quip. Not only did his jokes cheer her up anyway, hearing him make one again certainly did. A sign his usual self was still in there somewhere, slowly resurfacing. "Ooh, mice? Count me in for sure!" With a smirk at the other two, she added, "Nah, just kidding, I can rein in that instinct. Not gonna put anyone off their food. I'll settle for a cream puff, or if there's anything savoury, a slice of salmon quiche."

This was what they needed. Something fun, something relaxing - above all, something normal.

Fuyuko bit her lip at the sharp tone. Just as she'd feared, the other girl seemed to have taken her question as an insult. "S-Sorry... But in a nutshell, yes," she replied, before getting to the point. "You see, while looking for the watcher, I caught a glimpse of a mansion in the woods. I was thinking either the house or this person could be an archetype. It's just a possibility, but it might give us a better idea of what we're dealing with."

She fell silent, raising her hand as if to cover her mouth. Too late to take back the use of "us" and "we", as if she expected assistance - even if the newcomer had hinted at wanting to offer it. "I-I mean, there's no obligation to help out," Fuyuko added. "They will be stopped, another magical girl and I are going to make sure of it. If you really do want to, though, we've all got to be cautious about this."

And about each other, she thought, looking over the brunette. Having only known about all this for a day, the other girl probably wasn't in the Hex Night. Still, even if she wasn't a threat, others were. What if the three caught the attention of competitors like the one mentioned just now? And was bringing a new recruit on a dangerous mission really the right thing to do anyway?
@ItMeGritty Hi! Yep, what Zan said about Pokemon and levels at this point, most are currently around level 12-13. Also, your character can have a few basic items, like Pokeballs and common berries.

Most of us are in the same place right now so it should be pretty easy to jump in, or if you want your character to be on the way to Vareena (location of the Grass type gym), Oscar is heading there.

And yep, if you have any questions, ask away!

Freya Leander ~ Cait Sith

Grimacing, Freya was silent for a moment. Then, despite Raymond's advice not to, she put on that smile once more. Going into what happened wouldn't do either her or Renard any good right now. It seemed slowing her steps wasn't helping her friend either, judging by the way he cleared his throat. Not wanting to make him feel worse, she advanced at a normal pace, sitting down and taking out the tuna sandwich. As someone who took comfort in food, normally she'd have opted for the scampi and fries instead of a packed lunch, but today she lacked much of an appetite.

"Yeah... It was an eventful afternoon to say the least," she added after Renard made it clear he'd rather skip over the details, "but all that needs to be said about it is we're going to be ok. Both of us, and everyone else who went along." She slouched forward, taking a bite of the sandwich. Maybe food would energise her at least a little. "Although yeah, hopefully you had a better Friday than we did."

"Well..." Fuyuko frowned, mulling over her theories. "I can't say for sure, but there are a few possibilities." Every so often, she glanced around to make sure they were out of earshot of other students, particularly female ones. That other chat room user had been right. A magical girl really couldn't be too careful.

Turning her attention back to the brunette, Fuyuko continued, voice low to be on the safe side. "How much do you know about concepts and archetypes?" As soon as she spoke, she cringed, raising a clenched hand to her lower lip. New as this girl was to the world of magic, had that sounded insulting? She probably already knew about all that from the ally Sophia had described.

"If-If you already know... Eheheh, sorry I asked," Fuyuko added, hunching her shoulders as if shrinking back from her. "But thinking over them has given me a few ideas about who or what the watcher might be."
❅❄ Fuyuko Yamazaki ❄❅

@VitaVitaAR

Fuyuko winced. Did this girl mean that was how she'd found out about the Hex Night, or had she not even been a magical girl when the attack happened? Would some people stoop to that level? "Ehh, were you alright?" she asked, eyebrows furrowing as she recalled Sophia's words. A new recruit getting a less than warm welcome.

Given the brunette's rough experiences, Fuyuko clenched her phone, wondering how to warn her about the current threat. "And, uh... It-It isn't just the Hex Night," she whispered. "Well, this could be related. This figure in a strange rabbit mask... They've been spying on people. On magical girls. I don't know their reasons, or what exactly is going on, but..." She paused, shuddering. "It can't be anything good."

Letting the revelation hang in the air, she cringed at her own tone. Magical girls were meant to embody positivity, yet here she was, talking doom and gloom. She couldn't be making the newcomer's introduction to this secret world any easier. "S-Sorry if that didn't help matters!" She bowed, lips twitching in an attempt at a reassuring smile. "The good news is, people are looking into this. Myself included. We'll... We'll do our best."

@VitaVitaAR

For all her association with the cold, Fuyuko's face heated with shame. "Sorry..." she mumbled again, standing and reaching out to help the other student up. That was when she noticed where the brunette was looking, right at the spot where she'd dropped her phone. That surprised expression, that sudden lapse into silence, said it all before the girl spoke.

"You're a magical girl too!?"

Fuyuko bit her lip, eyes darting from side to side. She held her phone to her chest as if her cover wasn't already blown. After that glimpse of the chat room, there was no point in denying it. Swallowing the tightness in her throat, she answered with a tense nod.

"Yes.... Eheh, I don't think I've seen you out and about in combat before," she whispered. Even if the appearance of some magical girls changed drastically when they transformed, like hers and Noriko's did, she was sure she'd recognise this girl's face if she'd seen her. Noting the awe in her tone, remembering what Sophia had said about a newcomer, Fuyuko added, "You don't sound like you've met many of us... Would you be new to this?"

Right then, her phone gave several notification beeps. Checking the screen, Fuyuko grimaced. What was this watcher doing, and what would their next move be? Her eyes shifted to the brunette. Gesturing to the side as a cue to break from the crowd, she lowered her voice further.

"There's uh... There's something I feel I should warn you about."
@VitaVitaAR Finally posted! And yes, Fuyuko did just crash into Hikari.

@The 42nd Gecko A nursery rhyme themed magical girl with cow traits, that's brilliant, I love this character already. Can't wait to see her!
