Bio

Current GM of World of Light. When it comes to writing, there's nothing I love more than imagination, engagement, and commitment. I'm always open to talk, suggestion, criticism, and collaboration. While I try to be as obliging, helpful, and courteous as possible, I have very little sympathy for ghosts, and anyone who'd like to string me along. Straightforwardness is all I ask for.

Looking for more personal details? I'm just some dude from the American south; software development is my job but games, writing, and trying to help others enjoy life are my passions. Been RPing for over a decade, starting waaaay back with humble beginnings on the Spore forum, so I know a thing or two, though I won't pretend to be an expert. If you're down for some fun, let's make something spectacular together.

Our first contest is officially done! Fantastic job, TentacleLord! Contest number two is underway. Check it out and earn yourselves some credits!
Rika Thorn A very well-done concept. Loss of the ability to use one's legs (or, as in many cases, loss of said legs) is a common disability, which meant you had to come up with a creative solution. Aside from a very charming name, Rika's weapon perfectly fits the image of a rabbit warrior, delivering bone-crushing kicks and breakneck speed. Her semblance really emphasizes the idea of 'unfair', but you managed to balance it. If a foe should try to engage her on her territory, they're royally screwed, but if she hasn't taken the time to set up Brambles she's fairly normal. Her emblem and color are both fitting, and her bio works well. My only gripe with Rika is that her personality is three sentences long, 'quite a good liar' somewhat throws doubt on her otherwise pleasant persona, and there isn't really any detail about a calm exterior or an interior it might contrast. Lastly, you picked a good, striking image. Kuro Nishi A nice bio compliments an intriguing character. The way you over came Kuro's blindness, what with the vibrations and all, plus his association with earth, reminded me of Avatar's Toph, which is not at all a bad thing. A drill is certainly a unique weapon, and with a name that's a reference to Gurren Lagann, it manages to be pretty epic. Unfortunately, his fighting style seems rather one-track and gimmicky, which does not, I think, suit a many-faceted hunter and a member of Beacon's premier team. His semblance doesn't really work together the concept of unfairness for me. Sure, parasitism of any kind is tricky and underhanded, but the way you said he works it means that it doesn't harm or drain his opponents at all—just uses their leftovers. The last sentence of the 'personality' section somewhat confused me, though the section as a whole certainly illustrated the concept of calmness. Biely Wakahisa There's unfair, and then there's overpowered. A blade that can cut pretty much anything, armor that can both withstand a a lot of punishment and melt anyone who touches it, shapeshifting, flight, and ranged attacks. His backstory is extremely tragic, and while that in itself is not a problem, I understand that he was permanently injured and the rest of his team slaughtered at a combat school. I can't tell if this was meant to be Beacon, another similar academy, or a preliminary school like Signal, but if it were Beacon he wouldn't be in the school any longer. That brings up some big questions: how was his team exposed to a threat in their sophomore year that led to a 75% casualty rate, and Beacon hasn't been shut down? I'm honestly sorry to be so hard on you. Your concept was good, particularly the personality section (I can see how an introverted personality links with a semblance that creates armor), but the execution leaves too much to be desired. Cassandra Marine Not everyday do you see a character with a scarf for a weapon and the ability to breath magic. Her appearance is described well; I could easily picture her in the world of RWBY. Her personality is alright, but could probably use a little more breadth. The backstory is the most extensive yet, but you did not at all make it a chore to read, which I appreciate. Aside from questions of just how practical a weighted scarf would actually be, her semblance -while seriously awesome- does not really relate to the concept of having a troublesome advantage over her opponent. The ability to negate someone's semblance or paralyze them is unfair; breathing dust is just powerful. Though you didn't use the words I provided for the personality section, I figure that a person who treats most people in a detached, unemotional sort of way pretty well fits that category. Jessica Wilson With a personality that neither entertains the concept of a calm exterior or relates to her semblance, a single-paragraph bio, and names for herself and her bow that are -to frank- uninspiring, Jessica strikes me as either rushed or underdeveloped. Sorry, but you won't be taking this round. The winner of contest #1, Overcome, is TentacleLord. The runner-up is McFazzer.
Contest #2 - Driven

So, Lug, when exactly would the contest be over tomorrow? :o I have something in the works, but it's taking me a bit of time to complete. >_> <_< >_> <_< You guys have no idea how hard it is to find gifs of Castiel eating hamburgers.
I'm going to call it at around 5 PM today. My apologies. It goes without saying that some contests will be unapproachable for people whose RL schedules keep them from making an entry in time, but I know there will be more opportunities.
I assume you didn't read the rules. Please do so and then post any questions on the original thread's OOC.
I believe that dust is a many-faceted form of matter. Normally, it just contains power, which can be sapped by machinery (making it a fuel source) or combusted by application of force or energy (making it gunpowder or projectiles). Different types of dust have different effects, naturally. For a completely different project I have been working on a list of types of 'magic', which can also probably apply to dust as well. If anyone's interested I can put the list here. On another note, I've decided that four days for a contest is too long. I'm reducing this one's deadline to Friday, one day from now, and future contests may be as little as two days long.
That drama tho
<Snipped quote by Lugubrious> So, do you want me to post Emily getting in there and realizing that everyone is a spirit before you get involved? I don't want to go to far with your city, after all.
Sure, go ahead and enter the place.
So Lugubrious, any plans to introduce Monolith soon?
Nothing much yet, unfortunately. I was rather planning to wait for some Keeper to come along and kick things in motion before I get involved.
It was with fascination that Abel spectated the brief duel between Ben and the young Wendigo. Rarely had he ever attended a battle against a creature of Grimm secondhand. Even when training at Pallisade, the preliminary academy of the same name had been too poorly equipped to capture and bring back live Grimm for practice, so calmly sitting by and observing such an event felt very strange to him. For the first time, Abel was able to clearly examine the thing with more than just a tactician's eye. He witnessed the scarlet sheen of its pupil-devoid eyes, what little bony armor it had managed to grow, and its quick, feral motions. Of course, he studied Ben as well, but not with the same degree of interest. While he had never held tonfas, or had a peer back home that used them, he could tell that they were a risky choice of armament. To really hurt something, one had to get in even closer than with fists, and even though they were bladed, swords in such fixed positions were less versatile than ordinary blades. Still, Abel mentally applauded the leader of team BAST; without delay, Ben had gone for the wendigo's biggest and most threatening natural weapon and disarmed it. Agonized and enraged, the cub seemingly abandoned all attempt at outsmarting its foe, and that decided its fate. Abel considered clapping for Ben as the little thing, previously so full of hatred, that now looked like little more than a sad heap of jet-black fur on the floor. Instead, he resigned himself to rolling his eyes as Ben made a big deal of his shirt. Little claws probably didn't even pierce his aura, the guardian observed, any trepidation he had previously felt at the cub dissipated just as it had. Dumb of me to get scared of that thing Next, it appeared that a change of venue was in order. Abel grabbed the Ampere from where he had laid it and joined the other students in Professor Port's wake, holding his weapon like a walking stick. It was currently in its staff mode, which was slightly less cumbersome and dangerous to carry around than its blade mode. He had no objection when Port singled out the besuited snarker from earlier, Bellum. Abel dimly remembered the guy's first name, but made no attempt to dredge it up—it could only have been as dandy as the rest of him. He could not help but raise his eyebrows in approval when he sighted Aurellius's weapon, a large, impressive tool that looked like a lance and a minigun in one, hefted over his shoulder. The Grimm, at least, Abel could name. Sitting Bulls were fairly common near Pallisade. He remembered being assigned to 'herd duty' several times, which involved making sure that no large Grimm could wander into a herd of the Bulls and trigger a stampede. He watched the ensuing fight with declining interest, for he had expected Aurellius to either rip the overgrown bovine to shreds with his minigun, or to pin it to the ground with his lance, not dance around it before leaping onto its back. Abel pictured what he would have done: wait for the thing to charge, dig himself in, and allow the dumb brute to drive itself throat-deep into the Ampere's blade. He did not doubt that he could hold the weapon steady enough for self-impalement. Still, the guardian admitted that Aurellius surprised him by wrenching the Sitting Bull's horn out and jabbing it into its body over and over again. “Brutal,” he remarked before considering his earlier plan. “Not bad at all.” The information given by Port was already known to Abel, but he was also aware that what knowledge he had gained from his work on Vale's edge wouldn't last him much farther. Some of the things that Ozpin had mentioned during the naming ceremony were downright foreign to him, like Salamanders. Then, Port pointed out another cage and named another student. Abel was rather disappointed that the next task was open for volunteering. He eyed the diminutive cage. Not many Grimm were that small, unless it was a young one like the wendigo. Was it a Creep? Abel hoped not. Unless he was nuts, there was nothing to be learned from those things.
Forget I ever made this post.
