Character Origin & Backstory: Robert Bruce Banner is the son of Dr. Brian Banner, a brilliant atomic physicist, and Rebecca Banner, a kind, loving woman. Although his mother deeply loved him, and he, her, Brian dispised their child, jealous of the love Rebecca showed their son over him, his terrible alcoholism not helping the matter in any way. Further, Brian was terribly hateful of mutants and believed that his son might be one. Soon, he turned to drugs, which drove his mind into the state that forced him to murder Rebecca, resulting in his incarceration in a mental hospital. Bruce a child prodigy, was raised by his aunt, Mrs. Drake, and she took him to counselling, unfortunately, not a very good councilor, who taught him to suppress his great pain and rage over his insane father's actions.
After graduating from Science High School, Bruce studied nuclear physics in Navajo, New Mexico, at Desert State University as the star student of Professor Herbert Josiah Weller. He also studied, for a time, at Pennsylvania State University, but ultimately moved on and earned his doctorate in nuclear physics at the California Institute of Technology, where he met Betty Ross, a friend he would keep throughout most of his life, although, after graduation, she moved to New York to work for Oscorp. Eventually, as an adult and a genius in nuclear physics, Bruce went to work at a United States Defense Department nuclear research facility at Desert Base, New Mexico. There Bruce met legendary Air Marshal, Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, the officer in command of the base, father of Betty. Banner and Betty remained in contact with each other over the internet, and she became Bruce's lead consultant when he was commissioned to work on a super soldier-formula, the same one used in the creation of Captain America, Giving the same power that turned the sickly weakling, into the most famous Nazi-slaying patriot that ever lived.
After years of failed attempts, sleeping only when physically impossible not to, he finally made a breakthrough on a crippled dog, repairing its limbs... The day he was informed that their funding had been cut... Determined to prove that he had cracked it, he tested the device on himself... A mistake nobody would EVER forget... Official records show that Doctor Banner's formula addled his mind, drove him insane, saying that he gunned down multiple officers before running... This wasn't entirely untrue, his mind was addled and he did
almost kill multiple officers, most of them would spend months in hospital, learning to walk again, but none died... He transformed into a giant gray monster and escaped, destroyed everything in his way. Walls, jeeps, tanks, nothing even slowed him as he smashed his way out.
Since going on the run, he has got in contact with a woman going by the name "Mrs Green" who is helping him work on an antidote for his condition. He contacts her by the pseudonym "Mr Grey" They have agreed to not meet until he has created a cure. Until then, he is going to continue to run, carrying the monster wherever he goes.
Powers and Abilities:
Transformation: The process by which Banner usually transforms into the Hulk is presumably the result of the chemical catalyst, adrenaline (a.k.a. epinephrine). As in normal human beings, Banner's adrenal medulla secretes large amounts of adrenaline in time of fear, rage, or stress, which hormonally stimulates the heart rate, increases blood-sugar levels, and inhibits sensations of fatigue. Whereas the secretion heightens normal physical abilities in normal human beings, in Banner's case it triggers the complex chemical-extra-physical process that transforms him into the Hulk. The total time of transformation falls anywhere between seconds to five minutes, depending on the initial adrenaline surge, which will be determined by the original stimulus. Soon after the transformation, the amount of adrenalin in the Hulk will return to more normal, reduced levels.
Superhuman Strength: The Hulk possesses the capacity for virtually limitless physical strength. As a result of this, he is able to use his highly developed leg muscles to leap great distances, Normally, he can leap several miles, however, if his adrenaline levels are high enough. he is capable of leaping hundreds of miles in a single bound. Bruce even theorizes that, if he put enough effort into it, it would be possible to launch himself into orbit, with nothing but his legs...
Superhuman Stamina: The Hulk's body counteracts fatigue poisons that build up in his muscles during physical activity. In an enraged state, the Hulk is capable of exerting himself at peak physical capacity for several days before fatigue begins to affect him. However, much like his great physical strength, the Hulk's stamina does increase as he becomes angrier.
Superhuman Durability: In addition to great strength, the Hulk's body possesses a high degree of resistance to physical injury. The Hulk can survived a tremendous amount of punishment. This invulnerability extends to the optic system since even the highest caliber bullets and depleted uranium shells merely crumple on impact with his skin, even when hitting a vulnerable area, such as his eyes. His levels of durability are almost impossible to guage, as no force on earth has succeeded in even marking his skin.
Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite the Hulk's high resistance to physical harm, it is possible to cause the Hulk injury. However, the Hulk is capable of regenerating damaged or destroyed areas of his body (even his limbs)
Superhuman Speed: Although not the most graceful of creatures, due to the immense power in his leg muscles, he is unbelievably fast. He has been clocked running in a straight line at 100mph and swimming at 80 knots.
Homing Ability: One of his stranger abilities is The Hulk's seemingly mystical homing ability that enables him to locate the area in New Mexico where Banner first became the Hulk, even when on the opposite side of the planet...
Resistance to psychic control: When in Hulk Form, attemtps to control him through telepathy are difficult, due to his mind being incredibly jumbled from the sheer amounts of rage, as well as the multiple personalities at work. As with most Schizophrenics, Attempts to control one personality are hampered as his other personalities attack the telepathic link. That being said, if a Telepath can control all of his personalities at once, he can be controlled.
Genius levels of intellect: Bruce Banner is arguably the foremost scientist in the world, on Gamma Radiation and Nuclear physics. He is also well learned in Biology, Engineering, Chemistry and refered to by Philanthropist Tony Stark as "1 of the 8 smartest people alive... Right after me, of course."
Weaknesses: How does one stop a creature capable of infinite strength? Well, his main weakness is gas-based attacks, although he cannot absorb anesthetics through his skin, he can through his lungs. Anti-Radiation devices can also stop him from transforming. And unless he is in Hulk form, he is completely susceptible to anything that would harm any other human of his body-type.
Sample Post:
Dear Mrs Green:I hope this email finds you in good health, I have been travelling through the southern states for some time, trailing a lead that unfortunately went no-where. I am afraid that, no matter what i try, I can't really work on a cure. It seems as though the cancer isn't going away any time soon. Any luck on your end?Your sincerely: Mr GreyHitting "Send" the computer dinged and confirmed that the email had been sent. Bruce sat back in his chair in the internet cafe, watching the timer slowly tick away, his dollar was only good for another 5 minutes. Suddenly, the computer dinged again, a new email.
Dear Mr GreyHappy to say that i am having a little better luck... It would be much easier working with the actual patient, rather than just the samples you sent, but we both know that that is out of the question. The rats are responding well to the treatment, their reaction is as good as I hoped. With any luck, by next week, i'll be able to begin testing on rabbits. Hopefully, i will be able to work it closer to humans... Unfortunately, that means that, at this pace, a cure may not be available for at least 2 years... I realize that that's a tall order, but the last thing we want is to make it any worse.Your sincerely: Mrs GreenBruce read the email several times. "2 years... 730 days... 17532 hours... dammit..."
Dear Mrs GreenSad to say that 1 year is out of the question, let alone 2... I'm coming to you. There is no alternative, if we can pool our knowledge, I am sure we can get this done in no time. I am sorry about this, but if you have any alternative that can work in less than a year, i'll take it. But at this time, it seems we have 3 choices, 1. we wait... During which time, i will almost certainly die. 2. I break down on my knee's and prey to heaven for a miracle... Or 3... I come to you, and we make a miracle happen. You will probably hear from me in a week.Your sincerely: Mr GreyHitting send again, just in time, as, seconds later, the computer screen changed to a lock with the words "Please deposit $1 for the next 10 minutes." He got up and drank the rest of his tea before walking out into the busy streets of Chicago, and if his emails were being intercepted as he thought, then the manhunt would move to the southern states. He pulled the hoody over his head and began walking. Straight past a police officer, their eyes met for and Bruce's heart stopped dead... If the man didn't recognize him, then he would live... Luckily for both of them, the cop simply nodded to him, and Bruce smiled weakly in response. About 100 feet down the street, he stepped in a puddle and immediately felt his sock dampen. He closed his eyes and seethed silently in mild annoyance. Leaning against a wall, he pulled the sole of his shoe up to look at it and saw a hole right through. He had had these shoes since he first went on the run about a month ago... Time for a change, spotting a sports shop nearby, he walked towards it and opened the door, stepping inside.
((I hope to begin the IC with the events inside the shop))
