Alright..... @PlatinumSkink we need that code. We need it as long as possible, so...... screw it, take me in. If they got R and they got me, they might think they've won. I'll try to take as much heat as I can -- then you guys watch for the GL to let his guard down, find an opening and shoot to kill. It's the best we're gonna do, far as plans go. Be very careful with that code -- if they find out that we know how to use it, then this'll be for nothing.

I'll surrender myself to the GL, cross my fingers, and hope you guys can take care of the rest -- or maybe, I dunno, maybe I'll just hope that R is a phoenix after all. Save my butt if you are! I wanna make it out of this! Counting on you.

So this took off, right?? Okay, at some point this GLORIOUS sideshow might start to distract from the write/read/review format (exhibit A: I still haven't written my entry, because distractions!!). So just for everyone's better situational awareness, when the voting threads go up, the RP-ish fun part will be more or less done, and we can focus more on the important stuff. But still have a little fun, I hope, just.... well, you know. I'll try to incorporate all your plot developments into the canon of the whole event, best as I can. But DEFINITELY DO ACTUALLY WRITE THINGS FOR THE CONTEST! Deadline is midnight on Sunday, meaning literally, before I New Herald posts the thread on Monday. Make sure @rpgc entry has your PM'ed entry by then, and make any final GLORIOUS moves clear by the time you log off on Sunday night, so I can do my best to tie it all together.

The way it works is, we collect all the stories together in PMs and post them all at once. Then everyone gets a chance to read over everything side-by-side and talk about each piece, pick their favorites, etc. There's always been a healthy amount of feedback for everyone -- it's not technically part of the contest structure, but at the same time, it's the most important part of the contest! So I'll make the plea again that anybody who can spare a few minutes to review at least some of the pieces submitted, make that effort, we really appreciate it. If you've sent in a story or poem or maybe propaganda in this case, go ahead and read the other pieces too, and help your fellow writers out with some feedback. Thanks!

TL:DR -- no need to post your story here, we'll have it up in about a week along with all the others.

Glimmer Train writing thing

so on Sunday I found out about a nifty little online writing contest, in no way affiliated with RPG or RPGC or anything from here. It's called Glimmer Train and they are (I'm told by credible people) extremely reputable. Anyway the reason I thought I'd share is, they're currently running a contest for 'emerging writers,' meaning people who haven't been published before (check their site for details on what they mean by that). There's an entry fee, and all sorts of legal stuff like right of print and other things that you should be clear on before submitting -- the long and short of it being, they're serious and you should be serious too. But in my short time working on the RPGC contests, I've seen plenty of people around here who've definitely got the chops to try something like this, and if the Glimmer Train people agree with me on that, you can get a story published in real actual print (and get paid for it, too).

So, there you have it. If I've read the legal stuff correctly, things you've submitted for contests here on RPG are 100% welcome and valid as Glimmer Train entries. If you're notably proud of something you shared with us, take a few more editorial passes at it -- make sure you're completely satisfied -- and maybe give this a shot for $20, if you want. There's more than a few great writers here. If you think you're ready enough for a $20 try, why not give it a shot?

I cannot remember exactly, but the 12 Labors is the contest where you cannot use non-original characters (i.e. characters that you did not create). Correct? Just asking because I knew a certain franchise that would fit perfectly for this theme.

Correct. TTL places significant emphasis on each author creating characters, as that's a big part of each challenge. We maintain the same rules about crediting your source, however if you would prefer to write an original work utilizing characters from an existing franchise, you may do so. All things are welcome and winning is up to the voters and the individual judges.

this is not a hider at all

They don't even technically HAVE to be corrupt. Any old king/emperor/godking/whatever will do. Good question! This applies to both versions -- you can write about loyalty/fealty/obedience or whatever to your own version of a glorious leader, or resistance to the same.

.....aaaaand just in case anybody isn't clear, this is all presentation and it might be a little confusing. I'm just trying to be clever and fun! Forgive!! Here's the real deal. Same as any normal contest -- same rules, same principles, same entry and voting process. On the one hand, you can play along with the GLORIOUS LEADER theme and write something about loyalty and service and sacrifice and, idunno, glorious leadership, if you want -- it can be over the top, it can be funny, it can be serious, whatever comes to mind. For bonuses we're gonna pick out one poem entry and one fiction entry that we just plain like best, and also give a prize for 'Loyalty.' What that means is really up to you -- we'll judge everything.

Then ALSO, there's a whole other set of bonuses along the 'Resistance' theme. Again, just like a regular contest, as if "Resistance" was the theme. Again, it can mean anything you want it to mean -- if this weird presentation isn't doing it for you, ignore it completely and call me names, please, it's how I learn. The bonuses for the 'Resistance' theme are just like the GLORIOUS LEADER theme -- we'll pick a poem and a story, and then also give a prize for 'Betrayal.'

Make sense?

For the popular vote, depending on participation, we might wind up having two voted winners, one for the GLORIOUS LEADER theme and one for RESISTANCE. It really just depends on how many people submit entries for each category.
