Jinny had been looking around, but not aware of the signs of life that Joshua was noticing. In her head, the town was abandoned. But she followed his instructions, nodding and dropping into silence. She took her knife from where she'd left it hanging on her pack. She held it loosely in her hand, but now that Joshua had alerted her, she was prepared for trouble. Though she wasn't sure what kind of trouble. He'd said raiders before, but she really hoped it wasn't raiders, because she might be scared, and the last thing she wanted to do in her first real grown-up fight was to be a scared kid.
Jinny nodded, very glad he didn't ask. She picked up her things and started to follow him, a bit closer than she had before. "Hi, Mr. Josh. Everybody calls me Jinny, 'cause Daddy called me Jinny. I guess you can too, if you want." She was being extra polite to him, because he'd seen her cry and didn't fuss over it. That was a nice change. Plus he'd given her tasty strawberry jelly, and that was also nice. She hadn't met a nice grown up that wasn't her dad.
Jinny came out of it, blinking rapidly and looking around. "Wh-" She looked up at him, and frowned. Then she wiped her face with both hands. "...Sorry. I don't sleep, so the bad dreams come in the daytime to get me." She faked a smile, even though her face was still slightly wet and her eyes still watery. "I'm okay. I'm tough." Not as tough as she liked to be though.

Tell me yer tale, an' I'll listen Jinayah was born to a pair of nomadic adventurers, a warrior and a small-time air mage. Her parents were decent adventurers with terrible luck- their lives were taken by a thug gang near the mountains. Luckily said gang had some form of heart- they left the now-orphaned baby Jin alone, wailing in the forest. Baby Jin cried her little eyes out, but when her parents did not wake, she started to wander. She made it into a series of caves and busied herself trying to catch fireflies.

It was here that her fate was changed forever. The evening time is when the local goblin village went to gather and forage. They found the innocent baby playing there at the mouth of one of their caves. She showed no fear of them, and in fact, seemed more curious about their ears than anything else. After a lot of discussion and a trip to the village elder, it was decided. As there was no human settlement within a short traveling distance, the goblins decided to raise the child as one of their own.

Like any orphan, little Jin became the village's child, raised by all, taught by all, and loved by all. The goblin children learned to accept the tiny-eared, brown skinned, skinny human as just another one of them. Life was happy for Jin, for the most part. Sometimes she slept and dreamt of screaming, but for the most part, she learned to work, fight, and live. The goblins discovered she was a natural thief, already drawn to shiny things like a magpie. They taught her to hone that talent, to move silently and swiftly. When she was about ten, her magic started to show, the gift of the winds. The few magicians in the village trained her to harness those skills, but she showed much more promise in the physical arts than the magical.

When her coming of age was at hand, she chose to go out in the world and seek a fortune for the village, to make her name great and make everyone proud. She was seen off with much love, luck and tears, to make her way in the world.

Is there more to yer tale? (Other): Jin's grasp of human language is limited. She has little body shame, not knowing that it's somewhat unacceptable for a human woman to show her torso. For any goblin, the skin is to be shown, not hidden. Jin has a pair of tattoos on her stomach, one marking the village she came from, and one from the family who raised her.

(Universe and Strength)

(ENJOY.)
Kijani hugged them both as Sue pulled her in, unfamiliar with the contact, but still trying it out nonetheless. "I forgot the point of lunch is to eat. And I am starved, let me get something and come back." She detached herself from the other girls and headed for the food. Soon she had a thick roast beef sandwich with cheese and vegetables, two bottles of water, and several chocolate chip cookies. She managed to balance all of that back to the table with Sue and Phoebe, setting it all down. "I got extra cookies." She said, and then signed it for Sue's benefit. The word 'cookies' had to be spelled out, but she did so. She really had to expand her vocabulary.
Hands are also sensitive, plus they're more for work than anything... Maybe if she'd done something bad, I could see a hand scar.

Torso works... now I just have to design it...
Ahh. Lucky you. *thinks hard* I find myself wondering stupid details. Like... what the language sounds like. Is it harsh, guttural? Or perhaps is it flowing and elegant?

Also... I'm thinking goblins use three kinds of ritual scars. One for tribe, one for family, one for achievements. The major group, the minor group, and the individual. Babies get the first one a little after they're born, within the first year. Then at.. let's say 5 years, they get the family scar. The achievement scar, though, you've got to do something awesome. Like... save others from a cave-in, find a huge deposit of some awesome mineral... or bring back something amazing from your journeys outside.

My girl will be searching for that last one.

Where do you think the scars would be located? Face sounds painful, like... something you'd do to a criminal. Maybe arms or torso?

*rambling*
Kijani didn't know about being an orphan, but she knew about identity. "...maybe you're luckier than you think. Your identity is all yours, and not shaped by what your parents wanted." She shrugged her shoulders. The motion caused her to wince in pain- the weights had done a number on her. "Ugh... stupid PE."
