Devika shook her head slightly. "I'm a one-trick pony, really. You can do all sorts of things... I can do just one." She shrugged as she struggled to a seated position in the grass. "For a first day, it's pretty... scary."
Kijani made it to the lab, taking the time to tie back her hair. "Hey, Connor! I'm here." She set down her bag after stating the obvious, and pulled out a pack of thick paper. "So, what's first?"
Kijani went back to her room, taking some time to try and read. But for once in her life, the words weren't working. She read the same sentence five times before she realized she wasn't getting anywhere. "Great..." She took the time to change her clothes into her most casual wear, a pair of short shorts and a t-shirt that read 'Supernerd'. If she was going to be playing with chemicals, she wasn't about to sacrifice her good jeans. Once she was ready, she went in the direction of Dr. Conners lab where they were set to meet.
Devika was still there in her knelt position, trying to regain control. She could see Kalinda's struggling, but there was nothing she could do. Her head was already starting to pound with a dull, steady pain, and it would only get worse. "...I... I'm so sorry.." She would be apologizing all day, it seemed.

Good question. And I think that could be interesting.

You're about to find out. If Estella's in range of Devika now... well, it's all your show.

EDIT: Caits, I love you, that conversation was hilarious.
Kijani shook her head, still trying to banish the images and the smells. "Well... that was... " She grumbled. "Interesting." She wondered how Anthony had found what he found- and what it meant. For that matter, how the heck had he known about her grandmother in the first place? Well, it wasn't as if he didn't have connections. She ran a hand through her dreadlocks and then started to look around. "Hm.. where is Connor..." She needed a distraction. Thinking about something in the here and now would help.
Devika kept moving, trying to keep her control until it was safe. When Kalinda let go of her hand, she dropped weakly to her knees and screamed, the walls inside coming down with a crash. A wave of sadness flew out of her, and through the air, affecting anyone with a 50 foot range. The closer they were, the more they'd feel. At the outer edges, there would be a touch of melancholy at the least, but right in the midst of it... it could be bad for anyone too close.
Devika looked wide-eyed. The gloves would certainly help, and with Kalinda's being able to block her powers, maybe the other girl would be okay. She took the girl's hand with her own, which was starting to shake. "Hurry..."
Kijani took the card, and went rigid as she saw the symbol on it. Images flashed in front of her face, one after the other and too quick for her to grasp. "..." She felt her throat starting to close. Slowly, she tore her eyes away from the card, and started focusing on what was truly in front of her. Doors, windows, other students, and finally, Anthony. "Where did you get this?" There was no mistaking the shakiness in her voice.
Devika shook her head rapidly at the other student to approach, quickly heading for the door. "No. Don't touch, please." She had to get away. "Please, I need... isolation..."
Kijani raised her eyebrows at finding herself next to Anthony. "Ah, she's well." While she hadn't communicated with her grandmother in several weeks, she was sure that the woman would be doing what she always did. Trying to rule the world from behind the scenes. "How is your father doing?"
Devika shook her head rapidly at Kalinda. "Don't touch me. Just... get me away from.. everywhere. As quickly as possible." She was starting to shake, now, with the burden of holding down the power she'd let loose.
Devika tried to smile as Mimic wiped her face. "I'll let them know." She turned around and exited, rubbing the back of her neck. "Uh..." Her voice sounded hollow and flat, completely lacking emotion. Her walls were way up, and built like a maze. There wasn't just one. "Class dismissed. Except for someone named Sue, who has separate training." She started heading for the door of the classroom, eyes half shut. She had to release. Somewhere, somewhere away from people.

"I need... open space. Someone help." Her flat, level voice wasn't displaying the level of desperation she felt.

Kijani shrugged as class was dismissed early. She had gotten out of having to display her current lack of power. But now what?
The image of Mimic's father that he had created fades as his grief is slowly taken by Devika. He looks at her with a weak smile wipes the tears from her face before standing and replying, "Don't be sorry." His usual cockiness and condescension is nowhere to be found as he continues, "You did as I asked you to do, well done." Calvin Rankin takes a deep breath, then says, "Please inform your classmates that we're done for today, except for Sue. Tell her to meet me in our separate training facility."

Hey Knight- the word I emphasised from your post. Is that a typo? Did you mean to type 'his' face? Or is Mimic actually wiping Devika's tears off?
Once Kijani was full of food and drink, she retired upstairs to see her new lodgings. “Oh... it's so... lovely.” Other people would have used the word quaint, but Kijani had always thought there was a bit of an insult in the connotation of that word. While the furniture was simple, it was also very functional. Not a bit of wood was wasted. The scent of the wood was appealing, as well. Now all it needed was a touch of decoration. A vase of flowers, perhaps, or a nice picture to hang on the wall. She didn't know where she would get either of these things.

“You did a wonderful job tidying the place, Feather.” She smiled at the girl before settling on the bed, looking at the window at the setting sun. “What an incredible view.” She wished that there were trees outside her window at home. Instead there were buildings. It wasn't as cozy a morning, waking up to the view of the middle of a skyscraper.

“Please help me get this corset off...” The buttons were in the back, and awkward to get to on her own. “And tell me more about this boy you're so fond of.” Even if she promised herself not to give advice, she still wanted to hear it.
