Connor heard an "atta boy, Stark!" Recognised the voice as Ben's, a whoop that he knew came from Austin. He searched for familiar voices, rather than the whole crowd. Kijani's was of course strongest and loudest, given she was right next to him.So he he breathed in and out slowly. His shaking stopped, but he still didn't like the attention. But he very well couldn't flee, now could he? So he took comfort im the fact that Kijani's hand was in his."Yeau, but I am only dressed like this because of Anthony" he heard himself say, "so technically, I owe him more now"When she started to dance, he tried to copy her and probably failes miserably.

"Well, if Anthony comes looking for payment, you tell him I'm covering your 'debt'." They danced for a while longer. "Whew... You wanna take a break, get some punch?" She grinned at Connor, figuring he probably needed a little time to recharge.

John laughs, "You're better than me." He leans back, looking at the stars for a few minutes. He then asks, "How did you hear about the Academy?"

Devika looked up as well, leaning back against the lawn chair. It was a lovely night. "Well, my parents know a lot of people, and those people know people... they've taken some very interesting cases, so I guess they had ties to the super community before I was even part of the family. When I mentioned my powers were getting the better of me, they asked around for solutions. Someone must have mentioned the Academy, so..." She shrugged slightly. "Here I am."
I've been trying to post all afternoon... but now that we're back I've got to go visit my grandma. ^_^; But I put something up. Poor adorable Connor. I think Kijani's gonna keep that crown forever, though. Hee hee.

*listens to Journey* Aaanyway you want it-

Connor hadn't realised that them dancing would constitute them as a couple. He stopped, looking up at the woman doing the announcement, completely shocked. He didn't know what to do. He had stopped dancing, but still had his hands on Kijanis waist and shoulder how she had placed them.when the spotloght came on them, and the girls approached, he frooze. He felt like bolting. This was way too much attention then he wanted at the moment. he thought to himself, He let his handz fall, but grabbed one of Kijani's. This stopped him from botling. He accepted the crown, trying to ignore how his hands shook. He turned to kijani, slightly wide eyed. It was clear he was close to freaking out.

Kijani was just as surprised as Connor, but much less scared. As the crown was placed on her head, she smiled, and subtly squeezed Connor's hand. She could feel him shaking, and realized that this was probably all very new for him. "Breathe. I already told you we were the best-dressed people here." Her smile widened into a sweet grin. "Now everyone else gets to see it." She turned to the crowd and waved brightly. "Thanks guys!" She wasn't even aware that she and Connor were a couple, but at least people thought they looked good together. That was something. She started to dance to the music, trying to get Connor moving too. "It's just proof they've got good taste."
Devika grinned, chuckling. "Okay, you got me. Journey I know, though." She lifted her voice a bit. "Aaanyway you want it, that's the way you need it-" She was slightly out of tune, but at least she had the words. "I was never that great at singing." She beamed at him, revealing dimples in her cheeks.

John glances at Devika out of the corner of his eye, "I really like old-time polka music."

Devika grinned in surprise. "Polka, really? That's... definitely not what I would have expected. But then again, I've never heard any." She knew better than to judge a genre before she listened to it.

"The problem with card games is I play them safe" Connor said, just like with everthing else. Was he tired of that? He didn't know. All he k ew at the moment was he was dancing with a girl, and didn't appear to be making a fool of himself. Maybe the time for playing it safe was over."Confidence. Always been an issue with me there. Mostly" there were times he knew he could be extremely confident. They just didn't happen often. But he liked the way she said 'we'. So he smiled, and said, "you are welcome to try and help though""And sometimes figuring something out, Its the simplest, most obvious answer. But take your time" he smiled again

"You've really got to work on that confidence thing. Everyone should be convinced of at least one good point in themselves. I'm lucky enough to have more than one. So I've got confidence to share." His smile was infectious, and she felt her grin growing. "You deserve to be sure of yourself. So perhaps I need to teach you how to play. You have plenty of potential."
*blinks* Is... is John joking? Polka, really?
Aww, Anthony's falling. ^__^ That's so sweet. I love it when bad boys have a soft spot for one special person.

"You are already pretty awesome" Connor said, "that I think it would be a step down to be like me" he said this easily, "I mean, all I can do is put on a metal suit and blast people. Besides my brain, my abilities with chrmistry, engineering could be considered normal amoung other geniuses. You can do so much, that I honstly don't know why you seem to want to help me rid myself of my ignorance of the real world, to hang lut with me"

Kijani giggled. "Connor, do you even realize what you're saying? 'Besides your brain'? 'Among other geniuses'? Your mind is the most powerful, wonderful part of you. You're selling yourself way too short. We have got to work on your confidence. You have all the cards, we just have to teach you how to play." She grinned at him. "As for why I'm helping you?" She stopped to think about it. "...well, when I figure it out, I'll let you know."

John switches the radio to a classic rock station, then sits on the bare roof, leaving the seat open for Devika. He looks away from her grinning, "It's embarrassing."

"Yes, I can tell." She settled into the lawn chair, causing it to creak under her weight. "You can tell me. I'm very good at keeping things a secret. I mean- I've listened to everything, from opera, to country, to Japanese bubblegum pop- I don't care." She smiled warmly over at John. "Please?"

John shrugs, "They could, but I highly doubt they would. They're more inclined to work with you to bring your powers under control." He kneels next to the radio and asks, "What kind of music do you like?"

Devika shrugged lightly. "I like a bit of everything, really. Rock, classical, jazz... occasionally hip hop and even a cheesy pop tune every now and again. Why, what about you?"

Connor felt himself blush at this compliment. He shrugged, not noticing the change in song, and said, "just because I have wealth and power doesn't mean I have to let it affect my life. Its much easier to be who I truly am. A geek, who thinks spending a night with a girl trying to completely fireproof paper is pretty awesome, then to be so eone like...well, someone like Anthony." He smiled, "I enjoy just being me"

Kijani smiled a bit brighter. "And I like that you know who you are, and no one can tell you different. It's... completely refreshing." Everyone she'd met at her previous, completely human prep school had been utterly fake. Constantly posturing, posing, being what their parents or their friends told them they were supposed to be- her included. "...I wish I could be more like you." She didn't realize she meant it until it came out of her mouth.
That video. Oh my god.

He's the Dork Knight.

Connor watched her, seeing her eyes grow distant. He thought it was as if she was there, in those lessons. Or maybe the past was hard for her. He enjoyed listening to her talk, though. "That is incrediably smart. Not many people would think like that. You are an incrediable fighter, and from whatI have seen, a great dancer too. You are ddifferently intriguing, Kijani" when Connor said things like this, he meant them, genuinely, and didn't merely say them to get on peoples good side, or to try and take advantage of someone.talking like this, he could almost forget they were in a room full of people, at a valentines dance.

Kijani laughed softly, flattered. Usually she would have thought she was entitled to compliments, but the way Connor said things... it was like he wasn't faking it. "You're intriguing, too. I thought a guy with as much wealth and power as you would have been more... I don't know, forceful. But instead you're you, and... you're... wonderful." She wondered if this was what normalcy felt like.

John shrugs as he begins to lead her to his "fortress of solitude". He replies, "One of the punishments here is something called mental restriction. Professor X puts a mental block on the part of your brain that controls your powers. You can't use them until your punishment period is up, and you have to go to him to have them removed." John stops once they get to the back of a large, nondescript building. "This is the garage. It's where they keep staff vehicles and service training vehicles." he explains. John climbs a ladder that's attached to the back wall, knowing Devika would follow. On the roof is a lawn chair, a waterproof radio, some dumbbells, and a striking view of the stars. "Well?" he asks.

Devika headed up the ladder after John, but was huffing and puffing by the time she got to the roof. "Whew... I've really got to get in shape." She wiped her forehead, then looked up. "Oh... wow..." A slow smile spread across her face. "It's gorgeous... you can't get a look at this many stars in the city. I can see why you like to come up here." She looked back down to him. "I didn't know you can block powers like that. You think they could do that to me without me having to get in trouble?"
