An empathy, 533 had heard of them before. Her mother hated them. Given how her mother usually treated her though anything her mother hated might be useful. Still that was a little disconcerting. "I didn't realize I was that easy to read. I'm not sure I like that."

Devika shrugged a bit. "I'm sensitive, for one. For two-- it's all over you. In your stance. In your eyes. The tension in you is unbearable- and that's without my powers. Add to the fact that you're way in the corner with me? It's not hard to put together." She paused. "Sorry for the analysis. What's your name?"

Anthony continues, ignoring Kijani's indifference for the moment, "Once again, I ask. Is that wise, Ms. Rayne? Shutting out your significant other, even when they just want to understand you? Putting up a façade just to please him and your friends? Wouldn't you like to just be yourself? Or perhaps your more devious than I previously imagined? Forcing them all to believe that you're just as morally upright as them, just so they're easier to manipulate?"

Kijani realized that Anthony was not going to go away. She spoke with her head down, but still slightly audible. "What do you think I was trying to warn him about? I'm not playing any sort of games with him. He sees what he wants to see- a good person, evidence or no evidence." And Connor had no evidence. "Wanting to understand doesn't lead to understanding. He wants to know, but he'd turn on me." She turned her head, away. "They all would. I am who I am- I'm a bitch and a half, I don't play the flirt, and I'm not going to pretend that I'm something that I don't have the capability to be." She picked up her head, then, staring at Anthony with red-rimmed eyes. "Please go away, Anthony. Or I'm going to slice off your insignificant little cock and shove it down your throat." There was an odd, flat quality to her voice, as if she was saying that 'The Eiffel tower is in France'. A statement of facts. "I really don't feel like dealing with blood right now."

Shortly after Connor and Kijani walk out, Anthony follows, disposing of his waste on the way. He catches up just in time to see Kijani leaving Connor behind. After taking a shortcut, he walks out of a hallway, intercepting Kijani before she gets to the gym. "Are you sure that's wise, Ms. Rayne?"

Kijani didn't look up or acknowledge Anthony's presence. She didn't remember all of yesterday, but she had probably cried in front of him. She couldn't control that moment of weakness, but she was damn sure going to control this. Maybe if she ignored him, he'd go away, like they were always saying about middle-school bullies.

Connor cursed, and without hesitation, went after her. He didn't know everything about Kijani, but he knew enough to know that he didn't need to know everything. He knew what everyone saw when they looked at him-someone who was good, who wouldn't do a thing that, well, a 'white knight' wouldn't. They were wrong. He would do anything to protect those he cared about, even if he hoped to god he never had to. "Whatever is bothering you, what ever is wrong" He said after her, "I'm here, and I don't care what it is, because, and this is your own fault, I care about you" He stood where he was, not making another move towards her, allowing her to leave without him following.

Kijani stopped, as she heard Connor behind her. His faith, his misplaced faith for her... It hurt. "You would care if you knew, Connor. You would never see me the same way again." She turned, and she knew there were tears threatening in her eyes. "Of all the things I like about you, your imagination is the most wonderful. You see things... that aren't there." She really didn't want to cry in front of him, so she hurried on without daring to look back.

533 hadn't expected such a straight answer. If there were people here willing to do that then this place might not be as stringent as as she first thought. "Really? I'll keep that in mind." She turned her attention away for a moment before looking back. "What's your name?"

Devika smiled. "Devika. Devika Jones. You'll have to excuse me for not offering a handshake. I'm an empath-" She was getting better at telling people who she really was. "And you've got stress leaking off of you like a space heater. If I touch you, I'll probably magnify it."
*can't stop snickering* So.. Anthony's a future mastermind, chessmaster and... makes the best angel food cake you've ever tasted.

"Is there a 'How to get a SHIELD tracer of your ankle' class?" The words were laced with sarcasm. But the fact that SHIELD was keeping tabs on her should help put into prospective who was forcing her to be here.

That did get some surprise from Devika. "SHIELD? Wow. You must be someone special." Or dangerous. "Well, we've got a couple of tech-heads here, I'm sure you can find someone with enough knowledge and enough daring to try and crack it for you. You shouldn't have to feel trapped like that."

Connor nodded, "I know" He said, "But I don't have to like him, or his methods, to respect him do I?"

Kijani smiled slightly. "No, but you don't seem to do either..." Her eyes were sad. There was so much Connor couldn't know- she could only imagine his response. If he knew who she was when no one was looking... "I'll... see you in class later, ok?" She leaned across the table and softly kissed the corner of Connor's mouth. "Later guys..." She picked up her tray and left quickly.

"Alright" Connor said, "despite the fact that he doesn't eeem to have many values, he does have some. So I can respect him for his skills, even if I don't like what he does. If he had information he thought you needed to know, then its a pretty safe bet that its true, but he never does anything for nothing"

Kijani nodded, pausing. Words were coming out of her mouth without her permission. Slow and careful, but still... "His methods may not be pristine, but just because they aren't like yours doesn't mean they're without value." She twirled her fork in her hand as she spoke. "After all- isn't that what a hero should fight for? The freedom for others to do what they want? I mean... ruthlessness and craftiness have their place in this world. Someone must be willing to do what the white-knight heroes won't stain their swords with." At the end of saying it all, she wasn't sure if she was defending Anthony, or herself... Unfortunately, Connor knew less than he thought about her...

Devika nodded a bit, not taking the girl's 'forced' attendance with any sort of surprise. "Well, that's a rule for many students. Public school and private... you gotta go to school whether you want it or not." Her lips quirked into a slight smile. "They'll educate you, even if they have to make you choke on it. But this school is less like that- you are allowed to choose your focus. Like me, I'm taking both physical courses, a meditation and power control course, and one in superhero-civilian relations. I'm sure there's something for you too."

Connor had to put his water down as he stifled laughter, "And that's pretty much why I wasn't worried. You can handle yourself. Information?"

Kijani grinned widely, happy Connor had the sense not to worry too much about her. She sobered slightly, though, as she explained. "Anthony is a lot of things, and one of them is a very competent researcher. He had something I needed to know."
Devika smiled briefly at 533. "You must be new. Don't worry- I'm still pretty green myself. You get used to it, though." And she went back to her food. If this girl wanted to talk more, she'd have to make the next move. She wasn't going to be babbling to someone who didn't want to listen.
Uh... who's in charge of the experiment girl with a number for a name? Also-

*hugs Klyix* I'm 28 and I'm still lost with the whole 'life goals' thing.

Also, I'll be praying for ya, Dioxide dear.
