As they headed fully into the brighter lights of South main, the dirt on the girl's skin was visible. She was grubby, and her face was thin. It was also rather young looking, almost innocent under all the grime and weariness. There were dark circles under the girl's closed eyes. Her clothes were worn and tattered, and she was wearing a pair of dirty sneakers, with a visible hole in one of the bottoms. Her t-shirt had once been pink, there was a faded picture of a Chansey that was barely visible. Her jeans were a very washed out blue, with rips and tears that the stylish would have paid money for. All in all she looked like a starving kid dressed in over people's too-large handouts.

The girl's Liepard padded beside the man with the lab coat, her eyes fixed on her unconscious trainer.
Devika I'm not sure.

Kijani, I know but I don't want to say.
Jinny smiled happily at Neisha. "This is gonna be so fun!" Her stomach let out a low rumble, and she giggled faintly. "Who's the guy in charge? Does he have any food? I'm hungry." She was always hungry, though. Despite her small size, she had an appetite like a teenager. "If he has any, I can make us some peanut butter sandwiches. I'm not allowed to use the stove, my brother says so."
This is absolutely adorable, btw. I think they'll become good friends, all the while as Kijani finds herself marveling in his sweet simplicity and lack of deception, she will be telling herself that there's no way, no way at all...
When Mr. Croil looked up at her, Kijani read so many things in his brief gaze. Confusion, fustration, possibly admiration? Her heart was beating in her throat, and she could hardly breathe. How could one look do that to her, so easily? Maybe she was just warm, from being outside. Yes, that was all. She was likely tired from all that heat. That prognosis was thrown into sharp doubt as he spoke. A simple compliment, not even elegant, or showy, or seriously flattering. None of it mattered, though, because the hesitation in his voice as the words slowly let themselves out was such a strong indicator that he was nervous, and that he was not practiced in smooth speech. His compliment was so honest, and Kijani realized she'd never had a man say nice things to her in such a way.

She was wondering if he could tell how surprised she was, because her eyes had gone wide, and her face was starting to blaze with heat. Her lips moved, slightly, and she had no idea what would come out. Luckily he saved her from possible embarrassment when he offered a ride. She jumped on the topic gratefully.

“Oh, yes. I would like a ride.” She smiled, quite happy that he'd thought of that. “My legs are not as strong as they should be. Fancy or not, wheels are wheels. Though, I know it's strange.” Gathering her things and putting a bookmark in her book, she smoothed her skirt and rose up. “I've never been in a carriage with an actual horse. They still have them in the... er... lower parts of the city, but my family always uses the autohorses.” Stepping close to him, she toyed with the handle of the basket containing what little was left of her meal.

“I- I will read for you again, tonight if you wish it.” She felt flustered, and one hand lifted to twist a loose dreadlock around her finger. “I suppose I will pick something with less hidden meanings, and a bit more rhythm to it. I.. I would enjoy it, having someone to talk to about books. Even small books. Perhaps I will have to convert you and Feather into avid readers.”
Take your time! I'll be away this weekend anyway.
The girl was still unconscious, her pulse there, but unsteady, and her breathing very shallow. The Liepard nosed at her face, then licked her trainer's ear. Then it sat, tail lashing with worry. It let out a yowling cry that echoed around the alley, and then, strangely, slow tears started to trickle from it's feline eyes. "Mrowwww..." It lay at the girl's side, not taking its' eyes off her. It was very clear that the Liepard would not go anywhere without her.
Luna meowed harshly at the tall man with the airy hair. She grabbed the man's lab coat in her teeth, tugged strong enough to possibly tug him down a few steps. She let go, then ran forward toward the alley, then back toward the tall man. "Mroooow!" There was almost a note of panic in the Pokemon's cry, but it seemed quite unhurt. Still, though, there was fear in it's behavior.
Luna the Liepard skidded to a stop on the asphalt, her claws throwing sparks on the asphalt. "Nyyaaaa!" She padded right up the stairs, yowling loud and pawing at the back of the boy's jacket. She had picked this human because he was the last one to see her trainer. Even though they had fought, maybe he could help. If not... she wasn't sure what she could do for her trainer... "Nya, Nya-" She tugged at the back of the boy's jacket with her teeth, gently trying to tug him back down the stairs, trying to communicate the location of her fallen trainer.
Me too! I have such plans for Kijani and hopefully they'll happen soon.
