For as long as I can remember I've been a writer. I've made characters and told tales. I've painted pictures and shared information. I've struck nerves and inspired. I've been an artist with words. A gamer whose only console is the English language itself.
But now so much has changed in my life. So much has happened that has left me wordless. I am not the same. But still I write. Only now I'm trying to find a new voice. A new style. A different genre to suit an upgraded and expansive point of view.
The old rules no longer apply. I'm tired of hyperrealism. I've had it up to here (very high up) with antiheroes. When everyone's an antihero, the villains have won. I'm so sick of the jaded cynicism of modernity and the deconstructive apathy of post modernity.
Sure, sometimes the hopelessness arises. Sometimes it's overwhelming. It's depressing to see how divisive everything is becoming, how AI slop is taking over the internet while creative humans languish in obscurity, how prevalent addictions and job insecurity are becoming in supposedly first world nations. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is about to really burn down all around us.
But that's why we can't give up. Why storytellers, writers, and potential protagonists of our own tales can't stop sharpening our wits or flexing our imaginations. When doom seems certain and darkness fills the foreseeable future, that's when a new story - a story of light and hope - is needed the most. And WE can tell that story.
I'm looking for a few good rps in which to stretch my creativity. I'm not looking for anything too dark, lewd, or demonic. Nothing that glorifies sorcery or homosexuality. Nothing that overuses mature themes like they're some kind of addiction. Please no edgelords, murderhobos, or haters.
I want romances that not only fade to black but that don't focus exclusively on sexual passion a if that's the only part of love that there is. I want lighthearted adventures, yes with intense or perhaps even horrific moments, but with the hope filled promise of a happy ending. I want themes like Iyashikei and NobleBright.
I want superhero roleplays that are more four color comic book style adventures than grim and gritty realism. I want slices of life that are more about joy and healing than drama and strife. I want Star Wars roleplays that reach back to a time before George Lucas and then Disney started changing and ruining everything - a time when there were just three movies and an expanded universe that wasn't set in stone.
I guess want I'm saying is I want to write things that aren't too popular these days, but might've been popular decades ago.
If that sounds like something that interests you, let me know.
Let not the Lord's dealing seem harsh, rough, or unfatherly, because it is unpleasant. When the Lord's will blows across your desire, it is best, in humility, to strike sail to Him, and to be willing to be led any way our Lord pleaseth. You know not what the lord is working out of this, but you shall hereafter. It is a point of denial of yourself to be as if you had not a will, but had made a free disposition of it to God, and to make use of His will for your own is both true holiness and your ease and peace. The Lord is equal in his ways, but my guiltiness often overmastereth my believing. I would rather a cloud went over my comforts, than that my faith should be hurt. I desire to give no faith, no credit to my sorrow, when it suggests hard thoughts of Christ. Yet these thoughts awake with me in the morning. I am a dry tree I can neither plant nor water. I rue from my heart that I yielded so far to the law as to apprehend wrath in my Lord Jesus. For truly I am a debtor to His love, but I wish He would give me grace to learn to do without His comforts and to give thanks and believe when the sun is not in the firmament. I have no resting place for my faith but bare omnipotency and God's holy arm and good will. I am glad that you go on to follow Christ in this dark and cloudy time. It were good to sell all other things for Him, for when all these days are over we shall find it our advantage that we have taken part with Christ. Oh, how sweet a thing it were to make our burdens light by framing our hearts to the burden and making our Lord's will a law. And we have good cause to wait patiently, for ere long our Master will be with us and bring everything to light. Happy are they that are found watching. Our sand-glass is not so long as to weary us in doing so. Time will eat away and root out our woes and sorrow. Our Heaven is in the bud and growing up to a harvest. Think not much of a storm upon the sea when Christ is in the ship. I find one thing I saw not well before. When the saints are under trials and well humbled, little sins raise great cries within the conscience, and in prosperity conscience is a pope which gives dispensations and great latitude to our heart. Oh, how little we care for pardon at Christ's hands when we make dispensations! But when a cross without begets a heavier cross within, we play no longer with our idols. It is good still to be severe against ourselves, for we but transform God's mercy into an idol for turning of the grace of God into wantonness. Happy are they that know God, wrath, justice, and sin, as they are in themselves. That Christ and a sinner should be one and have Heaven between them is the wonder of salvation. What more could love do? There are none but perfect garden flowers in Heaven, and the perfection of all is Christ. He graceth Heaven and all His Father's house with His presence. He is a Rose that beautifieth all the upper Garden of God. Let us then go on to meet with Him and to be filled with the sweetness of His love.
Gawzarth had accepted the drink from Arrigal at the start of the interaction. But he quickly withdrew from active conversation into a stioc silence. Both because he was still physically and mentally perturbed by the lack of warmth, (for although the tavern was indeed much better than the outside, it still wasn't much beyond a meager improvement) and also because Kealsha was a far better speaker than he. As were the bard and even the rogue.
Then when a more private meeting was called for, he grudgingly began his way with all the delay he could muster. He got up slowly. He was tired. And he began to stretch his many muscles. He did this for a few moments before regarding the old one who had initially spoken to him with an approving nod of his head. After some more moments passed he finally pulled himself away from that fire and began walking idly towards the booth.
He looked around the tavern as he dawdled, walking slowly to the moonlit setting arrangement that this Vistani man had pointed out. He appraised the tavern with his senses as he moved through it. He took in as much detail as of his environment as he could.
He felt the disappearing warmth from the fire behind him. He smelled the scents in the air around him. He took note of the smells of food and drink, of place and person. He turned to look at Lucia Salazar with golden slitted eyes before observing the other patrons and assessing their capabilities. He listened to Kealsha talking so business like as he drew closer. And he tasted the stranger's champagne once again as he entered the booth and sat down across from Kassandra, who had just sat down before he did.
@BaronOBeefDip I like this. What about reinterpretations of established characters?
I've been on a real lizardfolk/reptile kick lately and it seems to be invigorating my creativity a bit. So I'm thinking about maybe a less villainous take on the Lizard from Spider-Man. Or maybe a variation on Bill the Lizard from Alice in Wonderland.
