As the Keeper, my goal is to see your journeys through to completion within the world of Lamplight. After all, the game is truly about the characters and how they live and interact with their surroundings and the people within. To this end, you shouldn't die, but the dice rolls are not always in your favor, which is why I've decided to reveal a custom DM mechanic for this campaign:
Each of your characters will have what is, essentially, a Fate Tracker. This will track the trend of your rolls and determine the fate of your individual Hunters. Every time you fail a roll, the Tracker trends in one direction. Every time you succeed, it trends the other way. It's balanced in a way that you have to really be on a run of failing rolls before you hit the
Dead Zone.
If your character ever reaches the Dead Zone, and they're in a dangerous situation, you will be notified that failing a roll in that situation will result in your death, regardless of your current level of Harm. Again, it's imperative to understand that you have to continuously fail rolls in order to reach that point, and the Fate Tracker is balanced in a way that ensures that getting there is rare.
Chances are none of you will ever see the warning that you will die, unless your level of Harm is too great and you just so happen to take that last hit that sends you over the edge, but it's something you should be aware of,
just in case.
