Alrighty, this is turning into quite a fight :D

Edit: gotcha Void, I'll keep that in mind.
Well, a main part of the tactic is pretty much: Use the Ashtar front ships to soak up all ordinance from the Vaegir and remain behind the main battle line of the Ashtar. Completely ignore the Vaegir in fact as they are not the objective. The objective right now is board, seize and jump out an Ashtar ship to a safe rendez-vous point and from there get the Ashtar ship to MSSC home space for examination. So to answer your question: They'll probably try to avoid being hit by your ordinance and not fire back at the Vaegir unless the Vaegir are threatening the success of the operation (in which case I'll either decide to pull my ships out before the damage is too costly or call in more support if the boarding is going really well and there is a real chance the MSSC can get the Ashtar ship. Mostly because I doubt my current fleet is capable of withstanding a full barage from the main battle fleet of the Vaegir).

Also, once the boarding starts, my guys will probably often call in precise dropship strikes on the boarded ship just to quickly dispatch hostiles.

Ok, so the Ashtar are going to do an emergency tactical jump within moments of the MSSC's arrival, a jump that will take them to the other side of the Vaegir fleet to use them as a barrier against the MSSC ships while continuing their mission. One cruiser will have taken too much engine damage to make the jump, so it will be left behind, completely surrounded by Vaegir and MSSC ships. I'd imagine the Vaegir would continue trying to destroy that cruiser, which would cause some problems for the MSSC's attempts to capture it.
@OzerathI'll try to get a post up but it might actually be better to skip me. I have midterms coming up plus a whole bunch of other stuff irl ;-;

Aight, I can sort of 'pause' on your end of the battle, Legion and I can do our boarding stuff. Just a question, would your ships fire on the MSSC ones?
@Legion02, I'm gonna wait to respond to your space post to give @ClocktowerEchos a chance to react to everything going on.

@VoiD, I'll have something up on yours later today probably. What do you think would arrive first, my gunships or your fighters? The gunships are based closer and were called in a few minutes earlier, but the fighters are probably faster. How far into Ashtar territory would you say your guys were pushing, far enough to be in range of missiles from Point Jakurna, or not that far?
Got you a nasty little present there @VoiD

Arctic Wastelands
Ashtar-Malthecian Contested Zone

Adeptus Khalan Mirodin peered after the Malthecian soldiers through his massive rifle’s scope. That is the third incursion this week, he projected the through through the theatre psynet back to his commanding officer at Point Jakurna. Khalan was an Adeptus Sniper; a highly skilled Psintegrat carrying a very large gun, operating alone in the snow. The fallen patrol had gotten themselves killed before he could arrive in support--he could in fact feel their shame from within the Union--so he alone was faced with the decision of how to wipe out the intruding Malthecian patrol. The Union seemed confident that the carefully designed Point Jakurna was invincible to anything but sustained heavy siege, so a single patrol seemed hardly worth the effort, but it was about sending a message.

Indeed Lieutenant Senera replied from Point Jakurna. The performance of our border patrol was abysmal. In your professional opinion, do you believe their behaviour constituted dereliction of duty, or merely incompetence.
Incompetence. Or rather, carelessness. This problem is growing ever worse.
The problem is being analysed and dealt with. Do not let it distract you.
Very well. Orders?
Eliminate the Malthecian interlopers, then proceed to the estimated location of their primary base.

To their credit, the Malthecian base had not yet actually been found by the Ashtar. But the hidden base was simply too full of life to remain hidden for long. The now familiar glow of Malthecian minds pulsed brilliantly to the north, closer to the pole than Point Jakurna. The problem lay in correlating that feeling to a physical location, something the Ashtar hadn’t thought would be necessary given how long Point Jakurna had stood unchallenged. However, if the Malthecians were escalating towards an all out offensive, they would need to be discouraged.

With the Malthecians out of the immediate vicinity, Khalan made his way to the felled patrol. A few of the bodies weren’t too badly damage; he signaled a Coralis gunship to come pick them up (and finish cleaning the Malthecians should he fail), then set off after their patrol. It wasn’t long before he brought them back into range, about five kilometers distant. Khalan set himself down on top of a snowy hill, and unslung his rifle. While technically it was meant to be used against enemy tanks, the anti-materiel omega sniper rifle would do just fine against personnel.

The shot, when it impacted, was a single bullet not aimed at any individual soldier, but squarely in the middle of their squad. The tiny capsule of energy collapsed, destabilizing the omega particle within and causing a thunderous explosion that tore through armour and sent soldiers flying. Kahlan whipped the chamber open and loaded another round, then scanned the charred corpses and melting ice for signs of life…
Super interested. Tell us more.
So, Knights Templar in a modern war against the legions of the damned?
@OzerathI was just thinking that it was fighting close to the planet but not close enough to be fighting "over" any area. I don't know here to be exact.

Sounds good to me. Everybody interested in that battle take note.

Also Monkey, pop me a PM with what you have in mind, i'll give you a hand with the details.
Hm, so we need to clarify some things.

@ClocktowerEchos, where exactly IS Imperator Kirov. It's in orbit of Anuria somewhere, but where exactly? Because for some reason people are assuming that you and I are fighting over the Arctic, which I'm 90% sure we're not. We haven't specified a location so it could be over the arctic if you want, but bear in mind that would expose your fleet to surface fire from the Ashtar base, and surface to orbit cannons can be nasty.

@Skepic, doesn't affect you too much but again, 90% sure there's no battle over the Arctic. Your ship still could've been shot down by the Ashtar picket force there, or Point Jakurna's defences, so it doesn't change things much.

@Sigma has been keeping track of things more or less accurately. The Ashtar, Jasarans, Avienans, and Aorolach all have ground presences up there. Legion's said he meant to attack the Ashtar fleet engaged with the Vaegir, so I don't think the MSSC will be there anymore.

So yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who has stationed any ships over the Arctic, and that is a small picket force to keep an eye on things, not a battle fleet.
