Bio

Well now that I got the customary "post once" requirement out of the way....

HELLO

Welcome to my safe space. Well, about as safe as one space can be, I guess. If you are here looking for something, I am very sorry to disappoint you, but I made fresh cookies! Come sit a spell.

I guess I'll do some more in-depth stuff about myself. My name is Nick and I am 35 years old living in Illinois. I am a therapist and clinical responder (which is a fancy way of saying I go out on police calls to provide mental health assistance). Been doing therapy for a few years now and I absolutely love it!

I am a gay, cisgender man. I came out in January 2020 (smack dab in the middle of a pandemic. Timing was always my downfall). There is still much I am learning, but I am proud and happy to be who I really am and not have to hide it anymore!

I am an avid gamer, especially roleplaying games (cue surprised and shock noises). I also enjoy writing and reading, especially mysteries. I am not new to roleplay, I promise. I have been doing it for years now in different formats. I am experienced, even if it doesn't seem like it.

I use humor as a coping mechanism for sure, but I also like laughing and enjoying myself. Life can be pretty sad and upsetting for the most part and I don't want to add to it.

Whew! That got deep!

I will be poking my nose around in spaces and hoping to jump headfirst into this. Some interests I have in terms of roleplay settings include superheroes, DnD, science fiction/fantasy, mysteries, thrillers, horror stuffs, apocolypse, and espionage. And I am a fan of most things pop culture. If you have any suggestions or possible roleplays you think I would love, please let me know.

Otherwise, stick around! This is gonna get wild!

As she entered, she noticed a glance from one of the family members. The disappointment was obvious; Millicent didn't need to gauge that. She began to serve herself some of the food and get some coffee. She wasn't particularly thrilled to be seated with some of the family. She wasn't sure of any of them yet. For all she knew, everything going on was a family affair.

Millicent also noticed Lawrence left as soon as he was served, which suited her just fine. Millicent took a seat as far from the other members as possible, waiting for Brendan and the others, though it seemed Ralph had one foot out the door. As much as she wanted to, Millicent figured she might as well stick around. Perhaps some of the family will let something slip over pastries and juice.

She wasn't going to hold her breath though. It seemed the La Lune family, for the most part, played things close to their chests. Some more than others, obviously. Millicent wondered if she should speak to the hot-head about things. But she opted to stick to her decision to talk to Eleanor. The matriarch had to be aware of more goings on than most.
The churning waters were not making things easier. Laelette was starting to realize she hated sailing. All other circumstances be damned, she was prone to sea sickness. She struggled to keep herself stable as she progressed forward. She heard the battle cries and the clanging of weaponry from the other passengers and crew as they battled the pirates.

Laelette scanned her immediate area. She needed to get off the ship somehow and away to safety, but that was easier said than done. As she wandered, the damage to the ship was causing things to crumble in the wake of the attack. The ship was going down whether she liked it or not.

Laelette heard a crack and felt herself fall before she sprang herself upward as planks below her crumbled and fell below to the depths of the ship and the ensuing fire. She pulled herself up and stood, now being more cautious in her step. No one was paying her much mind, which she considered a blessing as she didn't really want to engage in another fight since the last time she did her surroundings caught on fire and nearly trapped her in.

Laelette stepped forward as the planks below her started to crack more. She took a step back, glancing around. She had precious little room remaining on either side of the ship.

Laelette heard something break and scanned to see the main mast of the ship buckle and start to fall. As it did so it fell across the pirate ship's sloop. Laelette thought for a minute that maybe that was her way off, but reasoned against herself. Then she reasoned against that. She needed to make a move.

She stepped forward, but the ship rocked, and she stumbled, trying to grasp onto something to hold herself up, but slipping and hitting her head on the floor. She would have a huge headache later. She felt dazed, too much going on.

This wasn't how her journey was supposed to end.
So I am still here and interested though I do have some concerns. This is in no way shaming, but I wanted to bring them up.

1: I think we need more people in this RP to keep it moving and grooving.

2: How do we handle doing different things like recalling information? At the end of the post we're asked what we know about the Homeland Party. Is that common knowledge? Do we need to 'roll' for it?

3: I noticed there is another RP you put out an interest check for. I am not familiar with how you GM but in my experience the more RPs you put under your belt the more spread thin you get, which can lead to RPs slowly progressing (much like here). Not saying don't make RPs or join RPs, but I as a player am a little worried.

Again, no shade. I like this RP and want to continue.

No matter how hard she tried, Millicent could not get a read on Eleanor. The woman was good. Either she truly felt bad about everything or she was putting on a good show. Millicent wanted to aks more, to bring up her husband and see if that got a reaction, but the bell for lunch rang. Millicent was, admittedly, hungry despite everything. "All right, we'll be back after we get some food and help you out."

She turned, waiting for Brendan to follow, as she made her way to the dining room. Once she was safely away, she spoke up. "I can't get a good read on her. I don't know if she's putting up a front because she is hiding something or genuinely feels bad. We need to get her talking, though. Bring up her husband or Miguel casually. See how she reacts. But first, food."

Millicent made her way in, eager to get some food in her.

Sabine hoped the fake fight did its job. She had to assume people would jump on the rumor mill with something that was already spinning around in it, rather than finding new drama. She elected to ignore it for now. She would draft something up later to post, something that showed her and Leah were better than ever.

She also would have to speak to Andy about it. Andy was in this whether she liked it or not.

But that was a problem for later. For now, she wanted to avoid further drama (her's or someone else's) and spend time with her girlfriend at the Winter Carnival before school got into full swing.

Sabine paused a moment as Leah, excitedly, took off for the ice rink. She hadn't expected Leah to take to ice skating as much as she did, but it was cute to see. Or perhaps it was the fact she had sharp blades on her feet. Either way, Sabine had heard Vicky's message and took a moment to reply. "Happy to help. I'm at the ice skating rink with Leah if you want to come by. Otherwise, just let me know."

She then went to get some skates and spend a few moments, however long, gliding around without a care before a care was, inevitably, thrust upon her.

Marlena seemed genuinely cool—a laid-back attitude despite it all. Millicent had a feeling the drama wouldn't stop there, but at least for now it took a break. "Oh, I guess I never thought about that. I kind of like making music and performing, but I guess the hero thing is a possibility. I mean, others do it like Luna Snow." Is that what she wanted, ultimately? She knew learning to use her powers would help her along in the future, but did she want to take up the mantle of hero?

"I do miss it, but I think this is important. I am sure I am not alone, but my powers sort of manifested in a not-great way and it was scary. I wanted to learn how to manage them and use them and I also wanted to be around other people like me. With people who didn't just see some pop princess first, but another girl like them learning to use her powers and control them. Though, I don't plan to wind down the music either. I actually joined the choir here. Might even try out for the musical, if they have one. Otherwise I write music in my free-time. The fans still want and I aim to provide."

It really was starting to be a bit much, and Millicent felt a smidge awkward. She didn't know most of these people. Was it always going to be this dramatic?

She got the sense the drama had started before they even met today. Context clues indicated some sort of drama between Percy and Chase before either of them opened their mouths. Danni had somehow gotten entangled as well as Dorian. To their credit, April had demonstrated some quick thinking in enclosing them in blocks of ice to prevent others from eyeing the drama.

But this wasn't her scene. She knew what was taking center stage and she wasn't going to overshadow them by pretending she had any indication of what was occurring. "Excellent idea. Let's group up later though," she said to no one in particular, but she hoped after some talk the boys would be better.

As Millicent left the ice fort she spotted one of the other new classmates heading towards the clubs and sports sign-ups. Though Millicent had just been there, she was curious how they were doing. So she ran and caught up. "Hey! Sorry, I know you got out of there quick and that was a good idea. How are you, though? Oh, I'm Millicent or Millie, whichever. You're new here too right? Apart from drama central, how are you feeling about it all?"

Sabine had wanted to allow Chase and Percy to have a moment amongst themselves to sort out what was going on. She knew from experience that it would take more than a conversation, but she at least wanted to give them the space and time to do so.

What she hadn’t thought of was everyone else around them. People loved a show and, unfortunately, they still lived in a time when high emotional occurrences were social media gold. Karen freaking out in a grocery store, some racist dirtbag spewing hate and being chewed out, anything that got likes and clicks and views.

So when Danni combusted, Chase caught on fire, and Percy started freaking out, it was prime time viewership.

April was correct to bring it to her attention. If she didn’t step up, people were about to post Percy at his most vulnerable. And she knew what that kind of attention could do to a person. So she needed to act fast. She could memory wipe the lot of them, but that voice in her head (that sounded a lot like Max) told her that was not how to handle things. Thankfully, April had worked her powers to put up walls (literally) around them. It would stop it for now, but she needed to get out in front of it.

And then she had an idea. She knew one of the rumors going around was about her, Leah, and Andy and whatever relationship dynamics were going on. Sabine knew the only way to combat drama was more drama. And it had to be drama people were already willing to lap up.

Sabine made her way over to Leah. ”Hey, I’ll explain later, but right now I need your help. We need to get into a fight. I’m talking full-on screaming and swearing and whatever. Feel free to slap me or whatever, but we need to do it now. This isn’t real, but we need to make everyone watching us believe it is. Trust me?”

Leah gave her the biggest What the fuck face. ”Is it that bad in there?”

Sabine nodded, but not fully agreeing. ”It’s bad, but that can be fixed. What can’t is people recording them at their lowest moment and post it for the world to see. Danni is used to it, but I don’t think he’s up for doing damage control. Chase and Percy definitely aren’t. So, we need them to focus on something more dramatic. Something they are speculating about. And that’s us.”

Well. Shit. ”…Okay, but I’m not hitting you, you’ll rupture an organ or something.”

Leah thought about it for a second. Fuck it. She inhaled, and then put on her best resting bitch face. And then she shouted loud enough that the ground under her feet twitched.

”What in the FUCK do you mean they think I’m dating Andy?!”

Sabine fought a smile seeing Leah take to the role immediately. ”Oh, I don’t know, how about you spending so much time with her without me around! How about going off on your own during our shopping trip. I assumed you were buying gifts, but people saw you, Leah. With her. Did it ever occur to you I may not be ready to add someone else into our relationship?!?” Sabine made sure she was loud enough for people to hear. They needed to grab attention.

”First of all, no they damn well didn’t see me with her! Second, what makes you think I’m about to either! Fuck, I was buying shit for EVERYONE, Sabine! You think I’m fucking keeping secrets?! From you?!”

”I don’t know what to think anymore Leah! You changed! Ever since we won the contest you act different, you spend time with other people, what am I supposed to think? The money went to your thick fucking head!”

”Oh, sure, trust the fucking rich girl to be the judge of that! Hey, how’re the fucking Hex Girls, huh?!” Her voice was getting louder and louder. ”Because I know you were getting friendly with them, after the shit they pulled!”

”Yeah, I am a rich girl, I don’t pretend to be something I’m not! And at least the Hex Girls listened to my concerns instead of dismissing them! If you want to hook up with someone else, fine, but maybe not the person who broke America Chavez’s fucking leg! That’s fucked up!”

color=ffcb00]”I FUCKING DON’T!” Fuck, that came out a bit sharper than she intended. ”You can read my mind any time you want, you know you don’t even have to ask! But no, you make shit up anyway! It’s just not enough for, nothing fucking is!”

”Does it ever get through that rock-hard head of yours that I am trying to be better? That I don’t want to have to read your thoughts to know what you are thinking when it should be obvious! I’m done with it!”

”So you just don’t trust me, is that it?” She asked. ”Because I’ve never doubted you’re better than you were, did you know that?! But I’m the fucking problem here, blame it all on the damn rock head! Sure! Why not! Everyone else does!”

”Maybe, maybe not, but it’s not like you do anything to assuage people’s assumptions. Instead you get upset and run off. Newsflash Leah, the problems are still there even if you are miles away from them!” Sabine played up taking a beat. ”So, there’s the road Leah. Fuck off. It’s what you do best!”

There was a pause where Leah just stared down at her. And she was trying her best not to let a silly grin pop up on her face. Thankfully, the cameras were unlikely to even see it.
”...Why the fuck do I want to kiss you after that?” She finally said, quietly.

Sabine also fought hard to not grin. Damn, they were good. ”Because we have fucked up family relationships and don’t know how to process them other than engaging in terrible cohabitation. Screw it.” Sabine launched herself at Leah, essentially pulling her to the ground and kissing her hard. At least the cameras got their show.

Leah’s sword fell down, and Leah nearly fell on top of Sabine. The kiss lasted several moments, the giant wrapping arms around the sexy blonde girl she loved to be bitchy with.

”You know…” Leah finally came up for air. ”That’s pretty accurate, actually. When those two aren’t about to kill each other in there, we’ll pick this up. Right now, get your head out of the gutter, rich girl.”

Sabine playfully pushed Leah as she stood up. ”Think that was enough of a show? Hopefully, that’ll get the rumor mill churning. I can fix it all up later with a post or a video. For now, I think it was enough of a distraction.”

”Yeah, sure. Sure… Fuck, you’re hot when you’re mad. I got no idea how social media shit works. Anyway, you think they’re still alive in there?”

”You sure know how to make a girl feel wanted. I think that was enough space for them. I…know where Chase is coming from. Kind of. I think the two of them really need their own space to work through it and process it all. And it won’t just be fixed today. But, I think we should go enjoy the carnival.”

”Yeah, maybe.” Getting away from April would help with the unwise behavior Leah was tempted to engage in. ”Wanna go see if there’s a water tank to drop Coulson into like last time?”

Sabine grabbed Leah’s hand. ”Sounds good. Hopefully it’s nice and cold.”

Jake had been having such a great day!! And it was only going to get better!! He’d been told he was supposed to meet with his advisor next, and after how fun working with Croan had been, his expectations were sky-high. To make things even better, he didn’t have to go alone, either!! His magic was apparently something called Wild Magic and he wasn’t really sure how that was different from Chaos Magic, it might have been the same thing? There were a lot of terms he just didn’t know, and it seemed weird to him too, that people were naming and dividing types of magic. Wasn’t magic, well, magic? What made something more chaotic and less wild? It gave him a headache to think about, but he was definitely going to ask the advisor!!

He was bouncing on the balls of his feet, as the door opened up to their advisor’s office at the appointed time, revealing…

“Heelloooooooo?” Jake called out. “Magic professooooor?”

There were so many things in the room, however, that he immediately became distracted and started going through them. He picked up a strange dodecahedron, with little knobs and notches on it, and started trying to peer through the little holes in it. He gave it a good shake. “I don’t think he’s in here!”

Cassie had been looking forward to meeting her advisor. From her knowledge of how college worked, the advisor was your go-to person for help with your school career. They were also the object of one’s affections sometimes or a rival for your heart, but she figured that wouldn’t be the case here.

She walked along with Jake, thankful she wouldn’t be alone. Jake’s energy was positively infectious, and Cassie found herself as excited as he was.

Cassie walked inside as Jake opened the door. The room was empty of people, but filled with an assortment of wonder. Cassie walked over to where some items were laid out for them as Jake played with some weird multi-sided dice thingy. ”No, I don’t think they are in there. Perhaps the letters here will tell us more?”

She opened hers up and read it, her excitement falling slowly and slowly as she read. It seemed their advisor was on vacation, which was fine as Cassie believed everyone deserved to take vacation time (and it was for their husband which was sweet!), but surely the time for vacation was not at the start of a new school year. ”Oh, it seems they aren’t here, but still intend to teach us? I’m new to this magic stuff kinda, but that seems extreme even by this school’s standards. How are we supposed to learn from someone we can’t even speak to?”

“Oh! What does mine say? I don’t know how to read,” Jake explained, bounding on over to Cassie like a puppy, having left the strange object behind where he’d found it. He peered over her shoulder at the piece of paper, squinting as if that would somehow let him read the letters on it, but it was just… a bunch of squiggles. He had no idea how those made words or how anyone could recognize the shapes. “So how are we being taught if he isn’t here?” he tilted his head, a little confused. “Maybe Connie is going to teach us! I like Connie. She turned into a bird today!”

Oh. Cassie hadn’t considered that Jake didn’t know how to read. Oh cripes, did that make her ableist?!? She swears she isn’t! ”Oh, let me read it to you then.” Cassie read out Jake’s letter. Once done, she set it down in case he wanted to take it with him. ”It looks like we have daily tasks to do, exercises on how to manage our emotions. I guess Chaos magic and Wild magic are similar in that it connects to our feelings. Makes sense now that I think about it. You have mantras to do and I have a magic pen, and all of this will somehow be tracked by them. We can also contact this Pixie person if we have questions. Since we’re together on this, perhaps we can practice our daily stuff together? I can help read them to you. I don’t think Connie is going to teach us, but perhaps she can help?” Cassie let the bird comment slide, though she desperately wanted to learn more.

“Awww, he’s married! That’s so cute! I wanna be married one day! Can you be married to a lot of people, though? I wanna marry everyone!” He paused for a moment, blinking as if something had occurred to him, before he corrected himself. “No, I wanna marry maybe like two people! More than two would be too much and wouldn’t be allowed,” he decided, the smile then reappearing on his face. “What’s a mantra? And yeah!!! Let’s do it!! Do we start now? I figured out how to make myself vanish for a second and reappear in the same exact spot earlier, it was super cool!! What can you do???”

”Ok wow, and I thought I was energetic. I am pretty sure it depends on where you are, but some people marry multiple partners, I think? I don’t know, I just want to find Mr. Right and fall in love and get married and live happily ever after!” Cassie drifted off wistfully a bit, before she came back down to reality. ”Oh right, umm…matras are like words or phrases you say repeatedly to like…calm yourself down or relax. Like during yoga where people say “ohm” over and over.”

Cassie looked around the room. ”I suppose we could try? I am not fully sure what I can do. It’s sort of why I am here. I know I can….it’s hard to explain. I believe Chaos magic was the term, but it’s more like I can alter things. What about you?”a

“We’re gonna find him for you!! Can I help? I want to help!!” Jake couldn’t stand staying still for a moment longer, as he started to pace back and forth, practically circling Cassie. Every bit of his being wanted to just fucking run, combined with a strange urge to lift the heaviest thing he could find and do so repeatedly.

“Oh! Frankie said - he said that wild magic is volatile and unpredictable. He said it might explain why my face hurt really bad and then there was water coming out of my eyes and it was hard to get it to stop and it was wild - ha, get it, wild! Because it’s wild magic! I love that! It’s so funny!”

”Jake, it sounds like you were crying. Which is fine and is normal, but that’s part of what our advisor said about controlling emotions. Gosh, I hope watching a sad movie doesn’t trigger our magic.” She wondered about that.

”I mean I am sure the right person will come in time. I want to learn magic first. Romance second.” Though a certain handsome dragon came to mind instantly. And then her mind wandered back to him and Willow, how she had tried to help Willow only for Cal to snake in and run off with her to the healer, leaving Cassie alone. Not to mention how he was clearly annoyed she had interrupted…whatever it was he was doing with Nick. There was more going on than he was admitting. She could feel herself getting warm in her cheeks before she took a deep breath. ”What say we start with some of the mantras listed and practice calming ourselves down?”

He paused in his pacing, before nodding. Crying. Right. That’s what it was called. He wasn’t sure what a movie was, but watching something sad making him feel sad made sense to him. Maybe the best thing to do for his magic, then, was only doing happy things! Like running and looking up at the stars and sitting on the grass with - nope, not that one, never mind! Just more running and helping people and being a good protector! “Right. Only alpha male bros don’t cry,” he said very seriously. “I learned that!” he beamed, proud of himself.

“Yes, let’s do it! Let’s do some mantras!!! What’s the first one? I’m so excited to calm down!!!”

”So the first one is “I am one with the force and the force is in me.” So repeat that over and over and try to clear your mind out of other thoughts and distractions. It helps to close your eyes and sit down. Like this.” Cassie sat and demonstrated. ”I’ll do it with you. I could use the relaxation.”

Jake nodded, as he quickly sat down on the ground, mirroring Cassie’s pose. “I am one with the force and the force is in me - I love that! I don’t know what it means! What’s the force and why is it in me? Does it hurt to have things in you?” Jake chattered. “Oh, oops, mind clear - mind very very very clear - not a single thought… Just the force… that I am one with… and it is in me…”

“The force…” he sounded almost dazed, as his head emptied of almost every thought, and he sat there, completely at peace - a complete 180 in terms of energy from just seconds ago. “... my name is Jake…” he murmured. “I’m one with the force…”

Cassie opened one eye as she watched Jake go from a bundle of energy to…complete control and relaxation? She hadn’t thought it possible, but if he could manage it, then his Wild Magic could be more controlled. She resumed doing the mantra, feeling herself calm down some. She needed this too.

Avolon took a minute to take in her new prison. It looked lke your typical office to the untrained eye, but Avalon saw the cracks, the signs that pointed out they were the last reserves. The ones who were given assignments and busywork to keep them entertained and out of the upper level's hair.

She wanted to break something, but held herself back. It would not do her well to upset her new boss or co-workers by throwing a potted plant across the room.

Avalon, once her things were settled, made her way over to where she assumed the big brass of the tiny office was when she saw two women make their way over to the other side. She recognized Erin, but the other woman she didn't, which meant it was one of her new roommates in this flat from hell.

Avalon made her way over to them as they worked the coffee machine. She watchem them work it, speak about a conversation she was not privvy to, before she spoke up. "Is working the espresso machine part of the daily work tasks? I'd sooner go over to the nearest Starbucks and pluck up a blue-haired barista to do the job, but beggars must I suppose." Her words were tinted with disdain, not so much against the two women in front of her, but rather for the situation as a whole.

"So, I am here. Ready to get to work provided there is work to be given."

Millicent took Brendan's silence as agreement as she went to go find Eleanor. After searching for a little while they went into the Ballroom to see Eleanor putting up decorations. Millicent bit her tongue, wondering why things were going forward when there were two dead bodies (one, at least, that Eleanor was aware everyone knew about). Perhaps this was a gulty mind trying to distract or someone who knew and wanted things to go as planned.

Either way, Eleanor knew something. Millicent was sure of it.

"Eleanor? Hey, sorry to bother you while you are working. These decorations are beautiful. We wanted to check in with you and see how you are doing given....everything going on." While she asked, Millicent observed. She paid careful attention to Eleanor's body language. She was hoping the older woman would give something away.
