Talia Heigen-Schwertz

Banquet of Kings, Homurahara Academy, Fuyuki City

The manners of their host was appalling to Talia. Really, to so arrogantly proclaim himself ruler of both land and body.

How obscene, how lewd!

At this point the she visibly sputtered aloud, face aflame at such a shameless proclamation. Such was the degree of shock suffered that not a single word was spoken as Rider placed himself between her and the infuriatingly dashing host before them.

Truly, a setback in her attempt to appear as the refined noble scion of her impeccable lineage. It was a blessing that no rival were around to see such a sight, lest she be further embarrassed.

It was then, a rain of weaponry materialized in the sky, raining down death.

Or at least, it attempted to.

It was hard to tell when one was being smothered against the solid superstructure known as "Muscles Paradise". The thought was appreciated, the seriousness in which Rider took his duty was something to be commended. But with all the stimulation she had undergone this day, from the excitement felt in the opening of this wonderous event, to the indignation felt at this moment, all that could be parsed was a stream of incomprehensible babble.

And if one listened closely enough, they might even be able to make out a few words.

"... Can't ... Breathe..."

Gunnar Hámundarson

Outside Homurahara Academy Gates, Fuyuki City

As a deluge of javelins clashed against the collective power of several servants, outside the gates of Homurahara Academy stood a shining presence.

The very image of a knight in shining armor, complete with princess in his arms. Sparks flying from legendary deed clashing against legendary deeds seemed to only serve as a spotlight shining upon this beacon of virtue. Even now nothing seemed to deter his winning smile.

Whistling as he observed the damage, Lancer looked into the eyes of his master, still carried like a unsullied bride on their wedding day.

"Looks like we made it just in time right master? There was no need to dwell on those dark fantasies so deeply."

Truthfully, though he would have liked to come much earlier, Lancer had a bad feeling about arriving too soon. As a result, instead he chose to arrive 'fashionably late'. Besides, it would seem that within this time period, a 'hero' arrived in times of crisis just like this.

And Lancer was nothing if not a hero.

"Well we're plenty late enough by my reckoning. No need to keep everyone waiting even more."

Carrying his master in his arm through the gate and aisle of Homurahara Academy, a few feet before they reached the banquet proper, Lancer set his master down gently, like setting a lover down atop a bed.

Unspoken were words of encouragement. Through that unseen link that connected both Lancer and Tabethya Gunnar sent warm feelings to alleviate any worries, and a light admonishment against any such apprehensions. But most importantly, his own smile conveyed his supreme confidence in her. Stepping away, he went ahead and walked, heroically, towards the gathering.

A hero is a star composed of great renown and even greater deeds. A hero conquered fear and drove away harm. But most importantly...

A hero always bore the worries of people underneath them.

"I'm certain that you can go ahead and look up how to build a school on your own Rider, you have no need to rely on me."

"And as for those who would dare to violate these peaceful grounds, I'm sure that both you and the host can take care of that, or am I expecting too much from your august majesty Rider?"

Despite the barbed words that crawled from her mouth, Talia seemed rather pleased with current events.

"I too am looking forward to seeing our peers in this war. May this clash between us serve to advance our arts and to showcase the work of those before us in which we take pride in. I can hardly wait Rider!"

Visibly excited, practically shaking with energy, the dynamic duo stepped across the threshold of Homurahara Academy, eager to face the world.

Fuming, Talia followed after the broad back of Rider, a petulant pout on her face as she walked away from the gates of the Matou Manor. The burning of command seals informed her of the presence of a master nearby, and there was little chance that it could have been anyone but a member of the illustrious Matou household.

Fine, if they were to return grace with rudeness, then Talia would not be so uncourteous to treat them differently.

If it was war they were preparing for, then a war they shall get.

"Very well Rider. Let us depart. The day grows old and there are still some preparations I would rather like to start on at the least before the opening act begins.

As soon as Talia and Rider got close to the gates, rambunctious canines rowdily bayed their cries into the air. A flash of surprise and confusion flashed across her face before once again settling down into it's usual noble scowl.

A strange precaution for a magus, but not so unsurprising. The world abhors fantasy, it would be the height of folly to waste mystery. Still, for them to exercise such caution even now, it would seem there is still much more for Talia to learn from such an august family.

"A warning, or perhaps a simple precaution." Talia muttered to herself.

"Tell me Rider, what do you feel about such a thing?"

Gunnar Hámundarson

Living Room, Abandoned House, Western Farms

It was a curious scene before him. Such a person calling out into the empty air for salvation, prostrating themselves before him. Inside, Gunnar's feelings stirred uncomfortably, unsure of what to do.

Nervously, he laughed.

"I can see that," he responded, "But I think it would be more appropriate for me to say such a thing then something someone so beautiful in front of me."

And indeed, though Lancer himself was no stranger to beauty, he could not help but call his master a beauty as well. That wallflower attitude however was something he would have to be wary of. There would be many unsavory creatures who would undoubtedly try to take advantage of such a pure-hearted being.

It would not do for someone to do so.

"As for what to do Master? Well, to be truthful with you, I'm probably not the best for going out and fighting, but in terms of protection, I'm a real pro!"

Flashes of a bloody defense arrived unbidden in his mind, of a home slowly destroyed as he slayed dishonorable curs, and for a single moment his smile seemed more melancholic than it did joyful.

Still, such a thing did not sully his mood for long, as he held out his hand to his Master.

"So why don't we go decide together? With our powers combined, I'm sure we could take on the entire world if we had to."

Talia nodded regally, a small smile of pride sitting upon her face.

"Indeed, it would only be proper that we face our adversaries in person. It was the same for you was it not? To cowardly attack from the shadows without giving a name at the very least is most rude.

"Besides, even if they were to refuse, well, even sins can be turned into leverage. Even if we were to be turned away at the door from every abode we come across, fear not. Everything will fall into place."

Turning around with a flourish, the diminutive magus followed along the sidewalk to the spacious western mansion over the crest of the hill. Whilst doing so, a shadow fell across her face, seemingly changing her demeanor entirely. An aura of seriousness filled the space between Master and Servant as she began speaking.

"However Rider, I must tell you that though I am bold, I am not entirely senseless. Let us not forget that currently, we are in a battlefield. We walk straight to an opponent's lair. So please, be a dear and stay in-between me and whatever threats may come to be won't you?"

Silence filled the rest of the walk. Only stopping in front of the gates of the Matou manor.

"I believe this is far enough. I have no doubt we are already expected by the current occupants of this place, all we must do is wait."

Living Room, Abandoned House, Western Farms

Light coalesced together, taking shape of a man.

Adorned in shining armor, armed with gleaming blade and smile. Truly, that which appeared was an existence that could only be called a 'hero'. His body was but a vessel of great deeds.

The call was heard.

And here he was, ready to answer

Unbidden words came into his mind, a greeting, and an affirmation of their partnership. Lancer mulled over it within his mind, digesting it, picking it apart.

It would do. With some changes.

"Servant Lancer, I have heard your call."

Standing tall, an ethereal wind blowing his cape, as a calming smile stretched across his face.

"Don't worry about a thing, I'll be your hero!"

Talia looked down at her map, it's complete unfolded body dragging slightly along the sidewalk as she consulted it.

"Accommodations have been prepared, but still. One should always go and greet their host before partaking in their generosity no?

"We are very lucky that their current abode is very close by."

Folding the ludicrously sized map took some effort, at one point the procession stopped as she attempted to figure out the original orientation of the folds.

Some might say they heard some panting. Such a thing is of course, preposterous, and would greatly offend Talia to hear.

Of course, such behavior was beneath her. And she promptly discarded of the unhelpful guidance chart and trampled it beneath her feet.

"We didn't require help anyways," Talia declared.

"Behold, within a few blocks we will be within view of our shelter during our sojourn. I have heard many a great thing about this household, their heir is truly a terrifying being. I'm sure if we just mention his name and our awareness of his great achievements, they'll surely let us in."

It hurt.

Every single motion she made hurt.

Pain raced across her body, tears welled up in her eyes.

Why? Why did it have to hurt so much, to carry the pain, the expectations, the wish that they all cried out for, every regret she could hear. Looking into her father's eyes granted no answer.

There was no mercy to be found in this place. But hidden behind that cold mask of a magus, thin pinpricks of pity could be seen.

Nothing of value cannot be gained without equal exchange. Pay for our dream with pain and effort, and soon, one day.

We too, might become like stars.

"Oho? You look absolutely dashing in that outfit Rider."

Looking up from an uninteresting magazine, Talia Heigen-Schwertz scanned the entirety of Rider's body, as if there would be some flaw her servant could have made. An utterly foolish notion, but one could never cautious, not even in mundane tasks such as shopping.

If there were any objections to Rider's choice in garments, nothing about her so much as gave a hint as to any. Like a polished pillar of marble, her regal and refined demeanor deflected any probing gaze. It was, however, unfortunate that to many, it only served to make her seem as though she were a particularly precocious child.

The appearance of youth was something to be proud of, yet, it carried with it it's own problems. Something that served as a sore sticking point for Talia. Regardless, propriety was something to be upheld. And Talia was nothing if not a proper lady.

"Very well, let us depart now Rider. Our business here is concluded, and we have much more to do before the sun falls."

Hopping off the bench situated near the dressing room, she gave nary a glimpse behind her, fully expecting her servant to follow after her.

"It is good to see that you know how to dress yourself up. It would have been disappointing to see such a renown conqueror fail to triumph in the battlefield known as 'fashion'."
