Kota watched in confusion as his attack clashed with the reflection, but to no effect. Well, not any effect he felt made sense. Instead, it seemed like the dopple was just glitching into a myriad of colors. The kitsune was rather perplexed at this turn of events. Even as she malfunctioned, she still hurled her words at him. It came out as jumbled static.

“Some paths are meant to be walked alone. I don’t expect anyone to make the same sacrifices as me.” His golden eyes were firm on the color-shifting woman. The kitsune’s ears faced forward as all his instincts were focused on the dopple. A voice would graze his ears from behind, and he would quickly turn his head to find no one, following the ground rippling.

Kota would look down at the floor, his shortcomings replaying like a myriad of memories. Ones that he wanted to bury deep in the back of his mind. He clenched his fists tight as he watched in horror. His eyes looked to his right in horror as he watched countless Fae being razed by the pink-haired Eastern Empire general. The beast's body was implanted firmly into the bloodied dirt alongside Yukan, Griffin, and Okami. The next echo would show the fox running through the tunnels with a bomb in tow before a bright flash of fire encompassed the memory.

Blood began to drip from his palms onto the floor, causing even more ripples, leading to more memories. The Fox gritted his teeth, showing the prominent canine teeth as he watched. He let a lot of people down; he likely will let countless more people down in the future.

He’ll still press on no matter what.

“Be careful what you wish for.” There was a silent storm brewing within the martial artist. His eyes would flicker towards the deer woman, “Sometimes coming, heads up.” Kota raised his fists, prepared to prove his mettle to whoever dared to challenge him.

Vetreus nodded his head towards Severin, “Never felt better, I’m the king of the jungle and my jester isn’t just a gag.” He smirked, this was likely the closest thing she would get to a compliment from him.

The draconian would stand at the doorway, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the room. “An odd place for a shack, and even odder things within.” He was wary of stepping in, monsters were one thing and rather simple minded in how they wished to kill you. The smell of old blood made Vetreus scrunch his nose. Perhaps this shack belongs to a cult of sorts.

Inside, numerous creations lined. Peaking the draconians interest. A tinkerer such as himself was curious to see the work of the mindless. His eyes shined a bright yellow as he activated [Danger Sense F], highlighting his predatory pupils. Should his abilities prove capable, he would be able to perceive impending danger to a degree.

The draconian would stride into the shack, his eyes first caught on the heartstone. The etch and groves of the creation was interesting, he questioned what one would use such a contraption here for. Blinking, the draconian would look towards the rickety shelves. He would raise an eyebrow as children’s toys lined the shelves, disheveled and rather creepy looking.

With unease, Vetreus would grip the sword tighter. Moving towards the rotten cot lazing in the corner. Seeing the book with water damage, he would pick it up with his free hand. Before examining the contents of the book, he would give a brisk look around the shack before opening up the contents of the book and attempting to glean any knowledge.

Griselda on the other hand was still in a bad mood, her stomach growling lightly as she stayed wrapped around her companion's torso. Her eyes were focused on their cohorts, switching between each of them. Ever so often she would audibly sigh, letting Vetreus know she was irritable but the man paired her no mind. Unwilling to split his attention.

The smile remained on Kota’s face, even while Yumedopple ridiculed him. “Can’t say I am fine, far from it actually.” He’d flex his fingers. “I’ve just had my insecurities exposed to me and was brought back to a more vulnerable, angsty, and hormonal version of myself. So yeah I’m anything but fine.”

His mind felt exhausted, restless, unsure. The negative emotions and trauma, the mix of living as both Jin and Kota. Swapping back and forth between their minds. It was all nauseating. The trial has not been easy, punching stuff is easy. Violence was innate, even celebrated as a beastkin. However, the hardest challenges were the one that you could not punch or kick your way out of.

“In this life, you can find so many things to be upset about. That you often take for granted the blessings you’ve been given.” He’d have lost a lot, friends, family, even himself. However he gained a lot, a second chance, new opportunities, growth and wisdom. Though it wasn’t easy and it came with a slew of new trauma. He had no regrets.

The flashes of threads reached out to him, flashing his best friend, his family, even Nozomi for some reason. As they looked at him with contempt, Kota stared back with weak eyes and a smile. “Surprised you’re here, guess you had a bigger impression on me than I thought.” He looked at the idle school girl. The triggered emotions of Jin threatened to bubble over but were capped at a point. He still harbored strong emotions for each one of the individuals gathered. Truthfully, he was not ready to come to terms with everything. Not at that moment at least.

“I will always hold you all in my heart, there, you’ll live on forever.” As he spoke, Kota raised a hand. Blue ethereal soul essence could be seen forming around his body as pressure began to build up around him. The pure white Fox tails on his back stood up, reacting to the flow of energy and extended out to their full length. They acted in a way as though they were stabilizing his focus, swaying mesmerically behind Kota.

His eyes grew misty, yet he pressed the mask of a smile firmly onto his face. The identity he had grown rather comfortable with over the years. He would flex his hands shut, the ethereal energy that had gathered around him compacted tightly before spreading outwards in a wave of soul essence that clashed with the threads and the Yumedopple. Perhaps if someone had been paying attention to the fox’s face, they would see a bead of water run down his face as he made his attack.

Griselda

The swordsman held his follow through as he watched the slashes of his blade decimate the foe that stood before them. The melding of radiant energy and dragon fire proved to be a destructive combination. If the abomination garnered the same weaknesses as the stalker then It was likely there was little to no trace of it left.

Vetreus could feel heat emanating from the blade. The scorching steel threatening to burn its wielder with daring desire. Even the draconian was caught off guard, slightly stunned because he knew that the move could’ve caused more desire if he chose it.

It would only grow stronger from here.

Griselda would break him out of his thoughts, snaking around his face with a wide toothy grin.

“Sooooo? Did we do it did we do it?Canieatitcanieatitcanieati?” She bounced in front of him with childlike wonder. Thick strands of saliva were ready to pour out of her mouth in gluttonous desire.

The draconian would compose himself, taking a breath of air.

“No, you should clear the area before lowering your guard.” He growled, his gaze was fixed on the shed that stood eerily nearby.

The dragon deflated slightly. She had been obedient and good on the mission thus far. Why must Vetreus be so rude and deprive her of a meal she earned? He agreed after all! She would chuff out sulfur from her nose in a sassy manner, her body language lacking its usual youthfulness. Even Esther’s compliment wasn’t enough to pull her out of her temper.

“Hmm…yah sure..no problem.” She muttered, though her tail didn’t betray the slight joy the thanks gave her.

Fei’s remark made Vetreus smirk, “Found your funny bone while fighting I see, good.” He would turn towards the shed, two hands firmly placed on the White Wyrms' hilt. He was prepared for what lay behind the door.

“Opportunity you say.” Mikhail smiled, swirling his cup around in a circle. Aleris seemed to want coin, the desire seemed a lot more appealing as opposed to a favor. The elf knew all about favors, it's best not to owe one to shady individuals.

Aleris seemed friendly upfront, but there was a very telling way of how he weaved his words together. Unfortunately, the crooked blades were in a jam. It seemed like Aleris was looking to take full advantage of that for his own benefit. If they would do business, at least his intentions were upfront.

Mikhail let the conversation die for a moment, his attention pulled elsewhere. Valuable information tantalizing his ear, seems like the stars were shining on the pained souls of the pirate crew. A guiding light in the dark of night. Even Aleris caught wind, causing a smirk to arise on the elf’s face. He wasn’t one to believe in fate, the bitch was fickle.

“Perhaps, let’s hope Lady Luck isn’t building us up to tear us down.”Mikhail would clear his mug, washing away the pessimistic thoughts with the spirits. “I don’t mind accepting your services but what exactly can you do for us?” The Fae leaned in, resting his heavy metal arm on the table. The weight of the limb causing the wood to creak in discomfort.

“I apologize for my weariness, friend but you’ve popped in at a very peculiar time. You also strike me as a strange individual, one not used to salt and brine.” Mikhail’s words came off friendly, his tone friendly as could be but his words and body language was sharp. Almost piercing even, as he started directly at Aleris. The glasses on his face were hanging slightly off nose, revealing crystal blue eyes that were trained on the magus.

Griselda

Vetreus stared at the stalker with disdain, his sword pointed to the ground and extended. Prepared for violence should anything go awry. Luckily enough, the combined efforts of Esther and Liu would be enough.

With a satisfied grunt, the draconian’s blade would shined a bright. Emitting a radiant burst of energy, cleansing the blade of any sap or debris that may have been residual from combat. After a short moment, the white wyrm would return to a dormant state.

The first bout ended in decisive victory, as it should. Griselda would find herself coiled around Vetreus’s shoulder once again.

The group would progress through the labyrinth, the silent thumping growing closer with every step. Shortly, they would move into a brief clearing with a large monster. The smell of raw flesh would consume their nostrils, while Vetreus seemed a bit perturbed. The dragon on his shoulder seemed anything but, her stomach growling at the smell of raw boar. Suddenly, he would feel his elbow become drenched in drool.

“Compose yourself.” Vetreus snapped on a low growl

The dragon would point her nose down in a sheepish smile.

As Esther and Liu voiced a plan, the draconian was busy wiping his arm clean with a cloth before turning.

“I’d rather deal with the abomination first before directing our attention elsewhere. We risk forfeiting the element of surprise if we venture towards the shack first.” Vetreus raised his blade, emitting bloodlust as he watched the monster feast. “Glad you know your place.” He shot a side eye at Esther’s final comment.

“I can deal with anything inside, but I might bring the house down in a glorious fire should a fight happen.” The corner of his lips would curl into a grin. There was always the plan of splitting from Griselda but Veterus was wary of letting her out of his sight.

He would fix his gaze on the creature before him, bringing his blade forward. “Let’s try that move Griselda.” The dragon would nod. “Then can we eat after?” The noodle smiled.

“If you pull it off.” He smirked.

The white wyrm glowed brightly as radiant energy flowed through the blade. Griselda would puff her cheeks up full of dragon breath before blowing on the blade. The light emitting from the blade would increase, emitting an almost blinding light.

Vetreus could feel the heat emanating from the blade threatening to scorch his own skin. A hint of a smile creeping up on his face as he swung the blade to his side and assumed a stance. Quickly, 3 slashes were made, with it, 3 arcs of dragon fire radiant energy were sent flying towards the monster.

Griselda

Griselda was in disbelief as her breath attack dealt heavy damage to the
creature. Thus opening up Penny to put the creature out for good. She had provided assistance in killing the monster. It wasn’t a kill all on her own but it was a start.

The moment was broken up by Esther mentioning struggling to prop Griselda up. While the dragon would nod, it was a shame the Fae couldn’t support her. She smelled miles better than Vetreus did. She would uncoil herself, retreating to the floor beside Esther. Watching Vetreus fight on.

The draconian was relentless in his pursuit, not providing a moment for the stalker to catch its bearings. After his initial slashes, Vetreus prepared to continue his assault but an explosion of magic would come crashing down onto his foe. Kicking up dirt and vines in the air. The man would hold his wrist up to shelter his eyes from the light. The smell of burnt wood stung his nose as he saw a crater from where the stalker once stood. It was dead.

Fei seemed to be gaining the upper hand on the last creature. Vetreus was a bit apprehensive to interfere, he had not only the clear advantage over the monsters but also Fei as well with his radiant damage. He would choose to lower his blade but should he see Fei begin losing he would make his mark.

Things felt almost too easy, surely there was something coming their way after that display of power. Vetreus kept his gaze fixed on the distance. Worried that perhaps something might converge on them any moment.

Mikhail Xudriess

Mikhail clutched his mug tightly, perhaps if everyone was around he would’ve
made a joke about Pam her juicy but the elf preferred having his pearly whites intact.

“Aye Barkeep! A pint of juice for my friend here and a bottle of rum!”

He would go along with Pam’s demands just this once, she was usually pretty sour in mood but she had a reason now. Besides, he’s going to need her as level headed as can be if they’re going to get captain and Jane back.

She seemed to be responsive at least, finding the bright side of the situation that Mikhail spoke about. “Exactly Bun-Bun, Izzy is a ray of sunshine and Jane is as positive as can be. Probably the two best people to get locked up together, they’re going to stay strong until we save em.” Her rebuttal earned a smirk from Mikhail.

“They’re alive for sure. We’ve just gotta do our best and keep a level head.” Mikhail would take another swing of his rum when she placed a hand on his shoulder. It was firm but definitely anxious, another order.

“Didn’t know you cared about me that much. Aye-Aye First mate.” Mikhail nodded as he gave a playful salute to the Pam.

Suddenly, a newcomer was at their table. A man that looked suspicious as all hell with a hood draped over his head. Mikhail’s expression fell flat as he studied the man. He looked like he had been in the rain for sometime. Why approach them of all people, they definitely were the most interesting group in the hub thanks to Jane’s girl. But not the most approachable right?

“You seem a long way from home, friend. What brings you to our table?” Mikhail prodded, for all he knows. Aleris could be a bounty hunter looking to finish the job. The elf was on alert around this mystery man. He would tilt his head down, enough that his hat covered his eyes as he looked to Pam to take the lead on this one. Whatever she decided, Mikhail would back her up.

Kota

Kota had been rushing full speed at the enemy when they vanished. The arcade machine, and even his best bud who had been by his side.

They were all gone, it happened quickly. He felt his mind and body reform as one, it was as though a new dream was occurring as he started into the dark void of nothingness.

Up high he could feel just how small he was as two eyes looked down on him, it felt like they were watching him. Analyzing every part of him, Kota fought the nerves building up. He held his head high and looked up, clenching his fists tightly as he peered back at the orbs.

Yume appeared before the Kitsune, her patented drill hair not losing an ounce of volume even in her spectral form. Her grin seemed all the more twisted, and cruel. The words she spoke took hold of Kota's mind. There wasn't a single thing he didn’t feel he resonated with.

In the pursuit of strength you can go mad with power, being on both ends of the blade. Both a victim and the perpetrator. The beast republic is corrupted by power, the ones at the top who have no focus tend to look inward and hurt its own people.

The mask he wore often held many cracks, they are most visible in hours of stress. Many people take him for a fighter, someone who’s acquired great feats with his hands alone. Truth is, he’s more of a lover, not taking enjoyment in taking anyone’s lives. He only does so to protect the ones he loves.

His cage is built from the failures of his past life, a disgrace to his family. He was selfish and only lived for himself, never once did he care about how much he made his father stressed. The amount of times his mother broke down, not knowing what to do with him. The mess he forced his younger siblings to clean up. The pain he caused them not having the guidance of their elder sibling. Instead, he lamented them all, his weakness caused them all suffering.

In the end, it amounted to loneliness. He pushed them all away, even his best friend. Perhaps Nozomi was right, maybe she did care. She wasn’t afraid to tell him what was the harsh truth in the only way that he would respond. Nah, Jin didn’t listen. He just wrote her off too, it was easy to blame others for your shortcomings.

He couldn’t do that in this life though.

Yume dopple presented herself before him, despite her small physique it felt like she towered over the Kitsune. Her words weigh heavy.

There was truth, enough to make him question. In honesty, he didn’t believe in his own strength. It just felt like imposter syndrome, even becoming a champion felt like it was placed in his lap instead of something he earned. Kota clenched his fists, he felt contempt for his own ability.

“I do-“ As he was about to answer, he would see another Yume pop into his view. Whacking the dopple over the head. Kota’s tails lost their fluidity, dropping down in confusion. His ears followed the same movement. Her words came unexpected, was it a compliment?

“Pfft” he tried to fight back the laughter but couldn’t help it. He’d begin to chuckle while placing a hand on Yume's shoulder.

“Well that’s one way to snap me out of it. Thank you friend.” He smirked, “I didn’t steal my tails though, I’m not a thief. They’re just a reflection of me being a fully mature Kitsune, both in mind and spirit.” Kota would fold his arms, “Now if we wanted to know where all the conditioner went. I wouldn’t be surprised if you are the culprit with the amount of volume and the quality of your hair.” A compliment for a compliment should make them even, the Kitsune thought. His idea is almost too simple.

He’d notice the runes on her body as they lit up, it was intriguing. He hadn’t seen magic used in such a way before. “Interesting use of magic.” He’d add, but choosing not to prod her further at the moment. It seemed like she was concentrating.

Griselda

“Bullseye” Griselda remarked with a tone of satisfaction as the monster reeled in pain. Meanwhile, Vetreus’s eyes scanned the battlefield carefully. They flickered left and right, taking in any and every bit of information he could. The change in the monster's body language, the ever changing landscape of the labyrinth along with his comrades positioning.

His appraisal confirmed his belief that he had the upper hand in this conformation. A labyrinth was bound to harbor monsters, coupled with one where the monsters were plant based. The searing pain of his blade art would prove devastating to their enemies. His blade would strike true, their ranks were faltering. He could smell blood in the water which only seemed to sharpen his senses.

This assault hadn’t been as once sided as it seemed, Penny having been tripped up in her attack and was now vulnerable. Forcing Esther, the backline, to come into harm's way.

“Griselda.”

“O-On it.”

Understanding her partner's wishes, Griselda would unravel herself from her perch. Rushing to the aid of both Esther and Penny. Anxiety filled her scales, as this was a chance to prove her metal. Like a snake, she slithered her way over to Esther’s position. He didn’t give her a clear direction meaning she was given the liberty of dealing with the conflict how she saw fit. Priorities, threat detection, reading the enemy. Beneath that childlike exterior was a warrior in the making.

“Backups here!”

The dragon chimed, slithering her way around Esther. She wasn’t quite as muscly as Vetreus but still sporting a rather solid build. The fae would feel a noticeable weight on her shoulders as Griselda perched herself upon Esther.

Next, she would puff her cheeks to maximum compacity. Giving her the appearance of a dragon-chipmunk hybrid. Once she was ready to fire, Griselda would open her mouth. Streaks of light would sink into the expanse of green. The trademark proof of her lineage.

Dragon fire

However, A flame didn’t come spewing out of her mouth, though, instead, a bright yellow beam of energy had been unleashed. Griselda had turned into a shoulder mounted laser of destruction. She would find her spells potency increased dramatically but at the expense of her shoulder threatening to give due to the weapons kickback. The fee would have to adjust to her newfound artillery system.

Anxiety was a foreign emotion to Vetreus, but since Griselda had been born. The draconian had become very familiar with that word. As emotional this moment might have been for Griselda, there was an equal amount of burden situated in the pit of Vetreus' stomach. His nerves were screaming to not Griselda out of his sight but he would bite down. Venting the raw emotion in the sound of a battle cry.

“GRAGHHH”

The draconian flew across the battlefield, his blade drawn as he converted his anxiety into anger and rage. The enemy would have to shoulder all his negative emotions. He would close the distance in one breath on the wounded deer. It was time to break their ranks.

The white wyrm blade illuminated in the dark forest with a bright light as Vetreus brought it high over his head. Mana glowed into the tempered metal before the Draconian cleaved down. Every bit of anxiety, fear, and doubt would be unleashed within a series of strikes as he cleaved as the heavily wounded stalker. The evidence of his attack could be found in the smoldering labyrinth floor that featured a series of slashes.
