What do you mean by Dune like? I know the movie and have read the first book. Is there pseudo-science or magic/spiritualism?
There is only one artifact and it's the Book of Sous. Little is known about the book, some say that it doesn't exist at all. Some say it's only a rumor which exists purely to pump adrenaline into adventurers who're curious about it's existence at all. But where is it? Is it real? What is contained within it's pages? Many who trek to find the mysterious text often does not come back, so maybe they have given up? Maybe you'll be the ones to find it?

I know what's in the book of Sous! I am one! Béchamel, Espagnole, Mayonaise, Veloute and Hollandaise. Also interest if more info is forthecoming.
South Bay Hangar

As weapons roared to life on the narrow walkway, the mercenaries either ducked for cover or opened fire at the pair of mightily armed Port Authority Soldiers. They began advancing, white lightning bursting out from their heavy-bolters. The soldiers hardly seemed to be affected by the small arms fire of the mercenaries. Between the arc lightning warping of the soldiers shotguns warping the metal cat-walk and the weight of seven people fighting, the whole platform shifted and broke. Steam-vents buckled, crates went flying and the two P.A. soldiers fell backwards to the floor.

Captain Erek

"Hell of a way to start a mission" thought Captain Erek as the cat-walk buckled under all the weight and heat of the weapons fire. His ears were ringing as he fell, and he was forced to drop his pistol in order to grab onto the railing. His saber automatically powered down and a strong magnetic field forced the hilt back onto his utility belt.

His legs were dangling, and he saw the hangar floor 50 feet below. The Port Authority guards were already regaining their feet. They looked dazed, but not out of the fight yet. They were looking around for their weapons."Hang on!" Erek shouted to the others. "Get to the ship, NOW!". Erek said a small prayer to Vasa, patron saint of Hyklian Warriors and jumped to the floor below, his vibro-blade once more in his hand, ready to deal death. That's when the port alarm began sounding.
If anyone else wants to react to the combat, get actions in by tonight. The next few scenes will move us quickly onto the ship and on with the mission. @Awesomoman64@Jpp188@OtomostheCrazy@Voltus_Ventus
np @Jpp188. In combat I will almost always have Captain Erek act last to give you guys the chance to react first.
The Kingdom of Reln

Moonlight falls upon Pelmar's Lake and the dimly lit Tower of Truths. The steady flow of prisoners guest scholars and great minds has halted for the evening, the boats and ferries secured safely on the shore. To the north, the crumbling ruins of ancient Elvish towers appeared like a broken back upon the Sleepers Spine Mountains. Shadows move in the forests and fields. A wary farmer and his family slip away in the night carrying all they possess. They are abandoning the fetid fields their ancestors have worked for generations, now grown desiccated, while the local shreeve dozes in some tavern, the product of a night's hard drinking. All seems quiet in the Kingdom of Reln.

Bremen sighed wearily as he sat up in bed. The Kings call beckoned him to the throne room for the sixth time that night. Bremen thanked and dismissed the night guard. Still wearing his night robes and carrying a small candle for light, Bremen stumbled wearily to the great stair that lead to the Kings throne. Five times before the King had summoned him with some trivial question about the royal lineage. Odd questions, ones that the King would surely know. The King seemed to be growing as nostalgic as he was forgetful and mad in his old age. He paused a moment and rubbed his eyes. Through the fog of un-sleep he thought he heard voices talking in the chambers above. It was the Kings voice, that much was clear, but he did not recognize the other one. Or was it three voices total he now heard?...Bremen thought of calling for the guards immediately, but hesitated a moment to listen...

"...mad. Madness. The King is Mad! The King is Mad! Ha! What fools! They think I'm mad! Haha!

"...oh? Your not m'lord? Are you sure about that?"

" Ahem. I assure you little ghost, or spirit or demon or devil or whatever you are! I am quite in control of my faculties. That is, until I start talking to you! Wretched little thing! Mogaes be damned!"

" Tsk. Tsk. Poor King. Poor Mad King Alem. That is how they will remember you, you know. Madder than Haldisfar. Collecting books and scrolls, scholars and bards like little play things. The King who let The Blight destroy Reln. The King who couldn't lift a finger to stop-

"ENOUGH!"

"Ha..."

"...leave me be...I'm so....tired...damn you...I...I.."

"...ahaha..yes, sleep now little King...sleep while I work...ahaha.."

Bremen took a step up the stairs. He started to shake with fear. He took a step back as a rush of wind suddenly swept down the stairs, snuffing out the candle he held. Bremen heard whispers from dark places, old words not heard for centuries. Bremen turned and fled the hall.
Character concept I'm playing with. Still a little more writing to do though. Just to show you where I'm at.

Ok guys were back on. @Jpp188 I don't mind if you (or anyone else really) come up with stuff for us to interact with (i.e. the two guys about to enter the South Bay Hangar-boy are they going to regret that) but give me a mention in the OOC first. That said, you guys can look forward to an inventory section (weapons & ships etc.) in the thread header in the next couple days. I'll just mention again that I'm most active during the week (Monday-Friday).
South Bay Hangar

The mercenaries eyed one another in turn, the C'lok, the humans and the man shrouded in shadow. Erek appraised each one. The lady with the shock of wild red hair was armed to the teeth. A techy looking human fiddled with a data pad at his side. The man in shadow gestured for silence. That's when Erek saw the Port Authority Soldiers march onto the hangar walkway. They stood side by side on the narrow walkway. They carried heavy guns that resembled comically-sized shotguns. Beneath their dark robes Erek could see Dispersal Armor that would thwart any minor weapons fire. The Blast helmets over their heads obscured their species.

Captain Erek

"Well...now this is a party," said Captain Erek, nodding to each of the mercenaries standing with him. He noticed Дуака stepping into some shadows behind a steam pipe. He pulled the shortsword from the sheathe on his belt."To what do we owe the pleasure of this visit scumbags?" The vibro-blade whirred with the energy of twenty suns, powered by sun-slugs from Psokos IV. He whirled the weapon around skillfully in one hand as he drew a small pistol with his other. The Port Authority Guards carried heavy bolters, a sort of shot-gun that spewed electric death, they hesitated when they saw the crowd of mercenaries they faced. One of them spoke through a muffled, static filled speaker that Erek thought might be a translator device built into his helmet.

"This is an unlawful assembly in the governance of South Bay. By order of the Governor Gerard Domina, lay down your weapons," said one of them. The other one was already calling for backup. The shotguns they wielded began humming, the tiny dynamos within gathering energy that would, in a moment scatter death across the walkway....Erek braced himself for combat...

Yea sorry got a post coming today. Like I said weekends are my busiest time. Should have something for you guys by midday.
