Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

A map should come AFTER you know what you have to work with, rather than trying to parcel out fantasy races between (hopefully) fractal patterns XD
I'd assume that it would be a case of 'start with a continent, branch out once we're done with it'.

Your avatar brought this to mind.
I like Marduk. I also like Ea and Enki if we're going to plunder the Fertile Crescent. :P
Yes. Or they could be called dark for any other number of reasons. I was just thinking that if we wanted a traditional elf/dorf rivalry, it'd be nice to have a better reason than 'they live differently in different places'. And not Warhammer's whole beard malarkey. XD
What we've (roughly) decided on:

High Elves: smug, amoral assholes. Fair Folk to some degree or other.

Dark Elves: good, at least comparatively, and carnivorous.

The other stuff's just proposed and it's confusing to conflate the two things. I mean, I'd personally still expect the high elves to be in forests and wild places, due to the whole 'fair folk' aspect of it. That, and hating dwarves in particular? Stick the dark elves underground, gives 'em a reason for the diet AND a reason to not get on with dwarves.
@Rin the dark elves being good guys remind me of Elder Scrolls

Except their being racist xenophobic slavers is what got them screwed over. And pissing off the Daedra several times.

Have the dark elves be good obligate carnivores? <.<
I also don't terribly see a reason for completely inventing a new fantasy creature, then giving it a name belonging to one. May as well just make up something new.

So, elves: amoral fair folk types, something more along the lines of normal fantasy, or the normal fantasy types but amoral rather than smug? XD
I once decided that it made no sense for dark elves to somehow eat vegetation because how the hell would you be getting any plantlife underground? The only thing that really made sense was fungus (not a plant, and I think tends to be more meat-like) or whatever animals were spontaneously subsisting on thermal energy and/or magic. XD

@Rin i like amoral idea as it sorta fits with my idea of them being only capable of eating

I think you've confused amoral with immoral. Plus, being an obligate carnivore would make meat eating in and of itself have no particular moral relevance.
I'm... not sure what you mean.
High fantasy.
