Um... I just have to ask if a character whose backstory is basically death, assault, and then homelessness and petty theft would really be in a university. I am... confused.
Clearly, she's taken the idea that the sword is the soul of the samurai a bit too far, and it won't break until someone kills her. Clearly not ridiculous at all.
