Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

Character List:

  • Name: Misawa Kaede
  • Age: 21
  • Gender: Female
  • Role: SAGA Magical Girl
  • Personality: In most things, Kaede is reserved, composed, and self-sacrificing if the need calls for it. She's the model worker and considers it her duty to help the fight even if injured. When it comes to girls or particularly girl boys, though... even though she does her best to keep it a secret, she doesn't exactly do a very good job at hiding her desire to be more than friends.
  • Abilities: Kaede possesses the cheerfully named 'Relic Creation Experiment #2', which for obvious reasons she never refers to by its proper name, instead going for Nijiyumi, which is the incredibly imaginative... 'Rainbowbow'. This is because, transformed, the completely-normal watch does indeed include a rainbow that happens to be in the shape of a traditional bow. Armour-wise, Kaede's clearly got a samurai theme going on, though there's a lot more Cherenkov-radiation lighting on the overlaps, and apparently with a leotard instead of a breastplate.
As for the bow? It shoots arrows... made of lightning, which can be charged up to be larger. She's currently lacking much in the way of melee, however, as her self-defence skills were intended for human opposition and not giant monsters.
  • Skills: Even before being a magical girl, she practised Kyuudou, which probably explains why her weapon is a bow in the first place. She also knows aikido, which is... less than useful in her actual job. She's also quite knowledgeable about the Voids... not that this means much at the moment.
  • Background: Daughter of one of SAGA's scientists, it is perhaps unsurprising that Kaede is therefore one of the first magical girls of the modern area, putting her hobbies to good use in helping to fight the Voids. She's glad to be back in Japan after the extended research trip, not having been here since she was a child. Because of her age, she's actually employed by SAGA.
They can only go to unaware characters, who need a reason to get them... and some idea of how they're going to cope with having a bigass shield or two-handed sword around, because they're still complete (it's why they were so easily found).

Excalibur's requirements come from it being the wielder's second relic after the first was gone--so rather than simply affecting how it manifests, their experience (and additional power) imprinted something of themselves as a requirement. So... pretty much just an expectation of a chivalrous nature. Also being British.

For all of human history, magic has leaked into the world unpredictably. Often benign, a few unwittingly mastered techniques that harnessed magic to devastating effect--and they were the only ones capable of holding off magic's darker manifestations. Living entities caught in the area when the leaking turned into a sudden burst, impervious to all normal harm, they got known across cultures for their endless desire to consume, ultimately getting labelled as 'Voids' in scientific consensus.

The leftovers from their bodies always took the form of some innocuous material--a lump of pure metal, or a flawless piece of timber--and inevitably items were made consisting only of these remains. Idols, weapons, instruments... to most these were simply normal items but for a certain few these objects could be activated and draw upon magic to become armament and protection with abilities beyond even the greatest of martial arts techniques.

Defeating the Voids gradually fell to those who could activate these implements exclusively and the techniques faded from memory, much as the weapons themselves tended to; the focus of the bursts would move and via some intelligence the weapons would be 'lost', only to reappear each time. Some survived in legend, such as the Sword in the Stone or Excalibur, whilst others became nameless ornaments.

Whatever powered the bursts died down just as the scientific method was coming into practice, for centuries consigning the idea of magic to history--treating Newton's attempts at alchemy as a waste, rather than one of the last historical processes to create a relic. Yet a remote accident in the Arctic circle alerted the scientific community, then governments, to the truth. The bursts stayed rare whilst a scientific attempt at handling this was attempted... leading to the first new creation of relics in centuries, though no progress on working out how to force them to work with people (such as trained soldiers).

The bursts have moved to Tokyo, forcing the international organisation SAGA* to move with it. Their resources are limited--a mere trio of already-paired girls, and some relics that have found no matches, in a city with a high risk of casualties and the Voids are acting more intelligently than previously observed. At least in something of this size, the chance of relics already having found their user is high...

In short, this is a magical girl roleplay. Magic's always around and draining into the world from somewhere, but occasionally there's 'bursts' and if this burst catches a living organism it can, under the right conditions, turn it into a ravenous monstrosity that wants nothing more than to consume. Generally life, but there are exceptions. These are Voids.

To combat this, people developed martial arts techniques that unknowingly hacked into magic, leading to such scenarios as jumping to the top of a building, or using a tree as a club. Unlike actual brute force, the magic involved meant this could hurt Voids, who left behind pure raw materials for again unknown reasons. There's almost nobody left who can do this, because it takes an immense amount of focused training and the right aptitude, and...

The raw materials got turned into items, which can bond with people on unknown criteria. Through some method--at first generally 'desperation' due to being about to be devoured but later fine-tuned--these objects can induce transformations. Mostly armour and weaponry, with more special attacks being developed as you get used to controlling magic and the weapon itself. These are known as Relics. Given the lack of training, they supplanted martial arts.

Because they were made at wildly different times, as different items, the scope for transformed appearances is huge. With religious idols, you can get relics patterned after gods, for instance. The relics can either be some legendary item, or something more generic. The only gap is steampunk, since it went from around Newton to modern-day.

Character Options:
  • SAGA Magical Girl: Three of these, whose Relics are all newly-developed and probably the most magitechy of the lot.
  • Martial Artist: Only one, this is the person that dealt with the initial reappearance.
  • Unaware Magical Girls: The people who, currently unaware of SAGA, nevertheless have both the ability to use a Relic and own one. Unless the potential relic is one of those in SAGA's possession*, or the Imperial Regalia of Japan (for obvious reasons, nobody's getting to use those three)
  • Support: Supporting characters! Can be anything.

I'll be accepting at most eight people, if there's that much interest, and everyone's got to have someone that can do something. Nobody playing all-support, for instance.

*Excalibur, Pandora's Box, and the Aegis. Excalibur has particular character requirements, too.

  • Skills: Non-supernatural stuff.
  • Background: Doesn't have to be super-detailed.

Any questions?
Maybe she missed them? Artorias was sat down, Shirabe's really quiet, and Goldibanne is still a small thing.
I thought that my wording made it clear enough we weren't having any problems. Nothing that glancing at the last two posts for validation wouldn't help with, anyway.

Alright, cool.

Thats one big puppy then XD

Well, fully grown... (also that is a normal sized person, not Artorias)
@Lmpkio

Me, Vita, Lost Cause.

To be fair, the puppy is about the size of a grown man.

Perfect environments for a cyborg like Kiryu to come in and kick ass lol.

Which one should she go in though? Go guns-a-blazing in a zombie scenario or go out in a classic fight to the death?

Probably the one down to a cast of three (zombies). We have a buzzsaw magical girl, a gold-spewing doll, and Knight Artorias.

And a puppy.
@Lmpkio In BlazBlue, a man with a puppet attacked people and threw an insect-spewing blob at people.

In RE, which has the least people, we've murdered a bunch of zombies and started in on licking beasts. Some normal people are standing around in a car taking pot-shots, being amazed, and apparently not finding the 10' tall knight strange.
