Being truly on my own is a bit of a weird feeling. It's never really happened.

Let it never be said that sometimes extreme brevity isn't the most appropriate post, though. Everything is a tool.

Ryuuko had to disagree with the assessment that you put more lethal traps deeper in simply because that was where they were likely to have harmed or killed someone with loyalty to your family. That seemed like the obvious place to put the nasty but not fatal defences. If you didn't teach your enemies that clandestine attempts to harm your family would be meet with extreme retribution, why would they ever stop trying? The information angle was still relevant if they penetrated so far, as well...

The sound of that first defence and the lack of triggering raised an interesting possibility. There was no reason for anyone to interfere with the library defences... but if they hadn't meant to end up in the library in the first place...

"Could the misdirection ward have sent someone to the library?"
Well, there's still an element of taking his word for how bad it'll be and viewing it as a viable arrangement that requires trusting him.
It was quite disturbing to hear words like that out of a younger girl's mouth, though not as much as it would have been for somebody unused to the more unsavoury sides of life. It was more the fervent cheerfulness with which she had declared creating such destructive spells: taking pleasure in slaughter was unseemly and the spells were unnecessarily deadly. Why would you, with magic, destroy instant death defences rather than incapacitation? It was wasteful to not know who was targeting you.

Maybe this was why they had been stolen from: killing anyone that might have been able to let the Daidouji know what was going to happen.

"Are the other defences of a similarly dangerous nature?"
So the vase was out as a likely avenue to enabling its own theft, but criminals were nothing if not ingenious in trying to cover their tracks. The only way to completely rule out that it was involved would be overwhelming evidence for something else--as the apparent library infiltration acted as a start towards--or to recover the item itself and compare its actual capabilities against the scene of the crime.

The girl that came traipsing in... wore an outfit that, though reminiscent somewhat of the mansion's own styling, was undoubtedly not conventional. It was actually quite nice, though Ryuuko would rather have someone older wearing it.

"I am Miura Ryuuko, heir to the family," the purple haired samurai stated, rising and bowing. There was no question to her mind that which family she meant should be apparent: she was fairly secure in the knowledge that they were the only notable magical family bearing the name... along with other methods to be known, "I am pleased to make your acquaintance."
Merilia

Now that someone else was well informed to watch the festivities, Merilia made her way to the courtyard and watched the man jog backwards, haltingly singing the song. That was even better than if he'd done it flawlessly; he managed to make himself look inept as well as gullible. It was completely priceless how little prepared the knights were for such things with her long absence--naturally, the one person here who knew to expect it would try and inform people... but there was one Tyaethe and so many knights.

Nori knew but she could be trusted to enable the fun.

Nori, who had just said something rather uncouth, and whose view that she decided to drift into (behind Nero, even) with a smile directed at the rabbit. More of a smirk, really. "They're nice. But you shouldn't touch and she shouldn't say things like that."

Sir Tyaethe

"Not the reason I would expect the post to be yielded," Tyaethe stated, breaking her gaze, "Regardless of worth, and you have shown yourself to be more than capable of holding the position and with more education than she came into it, Elionne never formally left and neither the Church nor the Crown removed her as Captain. That would make her your senior and automatically restore control to her upon return.

"As a Saint, her actions are divinely guided and beyond us to induce punishment. There was one captain around thirty years ago that told me she would arrange normal proceedings for dereliction of duty. Even if the Knights were answering to the Crown then, the Church still disapproved of the idea. Especially as we were a religious order when she chose to leave; this was an ecclesiastical matter.

"She left the post within a year."
Jekyll is oddly willing to believe that the old man is trustworthy when he just called all magi untrustworthy.
Svetleaze von Einzbern

"Indeed, to have so many magi congregated outside of the Mage's Association is an aberration. For this, Master Schweinorg insisted that it was of great importance and called those of us that would listen," the homunculus explained, looking down for a second at her soup. Almost gone; her Servant's apparent appetite was influencing her more than she had given him credit for. Maybe a fear of someone coming in and eating everyone's food? "I came as the representative for the Einzbern. It was our efforts that lead to the creation of the grail that this ritual is based upon and a lack of our involvement could have been troublesome."

One of the other Servants, an unremarkable-looking man in her view when compared to her own gleaming Servant, apparently needed to massage his ego by picking a fight with Kintoki. Not content with being sidelined, some animal-eared girl thought to join the contest of athletics despite the rather clear disadvantage against how the two Berserkers were likely to compete.

Really, were some of the Masters such failures that even their Servants felt a need to prove themselves? Servants with poor judgement, nonetheless: to think that Einzbern would summon a weaker Servant that could be bested by the likes of them, without a serious and intentional choice to put themselves on such a level.

"Kintoki, please show these two how strong our pairing is."

Medea

"We don't need to go anywhere, just stay still," the former princess stated, clasping in her hand a certain... ominous dagger. It was jagged and brittle looking, unfit for use as a weapon of any description, and yet the point was being unerringly lined up with Diarmuid's face, "This blade nullifies any kind of magecraft in the world."

That was the limited warning before she stabbed him.
So the stolen item looked like a vase but was a magical artefact... and had the ability to strip mana from people. That was an alarming thought, even to a magical initiate, as with the understanding that everyone had some came knowledge of yet more ways to die. Furthermore, it could gather ambient mana from its surroundings. Certainly a potent artefact even if it was just left sitting around. But with those sorts of abilities, using magical defences...

"Would it have been possible for this vase to be used to disable its own defences or weaken them over time? If it can remove mana from people and areas, I cannot see a simple reason that would bar it from draining spells," the purple-haired girl stated, interrupting before Tomoko could call her daughter. Though why not just show them herself?
Holy shit, this event is nuts. Between Santa Jeanne Alter Lily and Rin...welp.

Seven kinds of idiocy* and counting, from what I hear.
